What better way to pass the night than to look at the stars?

To many she is close to, nighttime is something to be afraid of. Monsters lie in wait just beyond a cat's vision, and dangers lurk in the shadows. To Nymph, the night is a friend, and the stars her guide. It isn't her shaky belief in Starclan that makes the stars seem as if they are leading her, but rather just that she feels at peace with them. She feels like she isn't completely alone, like there is a light even in the darkness, despite her fears otherwise.

Nymph spends many sleepless nights staring at the stars, studying their patterns and the way they shine. Each one has a different story. Each one connects to another, just as all things in life do. The stars will always serve as a reminder that we are all connected, and that familiarity and kinship is just a glance at the sky away.

Solarpaw was swallowing her last bite of sparrow when her mental timer rang, signaling the time of sunset. Instantly, the apprentice fled from her seat and dove for her den.

If asked, Solarpaw would have said, "There's nothing I like about night, nothing at all," her voice a trembling whisper, as though its mention could drag the moon over the horizon.

Her statement wasn't entirely true, though. Solarpaw would never admit it, not even to herself, but she did enjoy the relative silence the night brought. It was also the only time she had to herself, without fail. She never spent nights around other cats; they asked too many questions, tried too hard to reassure her that things were fine, that her fears were irrational.

"There's nothing irrational about fearing a friend's death," Solarpaw would insist, her memory flashing back to the first time she had witnessed the death of her best friend, the day her young eyes had been opened. She'd never forget it; never, never forget watching her beloved sun's light being drowned out by the darkness of the moon. A solar eclipse; a solar murder.

The she-cat spun in a circle, flattening her mossy bed to perfection. Back turned to the entrance, Solarpaw forced herself to believe the darkness existed only because she was inside, not because the sun was dying, sinking below the horizon, never to--

"Deep breath," Solarpaw told herself, attention turning to the pile of grass before her. There was one activity that made ignoring nighttime possible. Solarpaw pulled a blade forward. Yarrowpaw, the courageous young apprentice, known for her troublemaking and pranks. For hours, Solarpaw acted out Yarrowpaw's fictional life with grass, until exhaustion gently pulled her into sleep.

There's something calming about control, particularly when you lack it in your own life.
