Welcome to the Euphorian Retired Racehorse Project
Euphorian Thoroughbreds are a rare string of the Thoroughbred breed. They come from a single farm simply called “Euphoria” that has horses with mutated genes. These allow them to be able to possess any realistic coat or markings. Everything else about the sub-type is the same. Long, strong legs, a powerful hind, and great speed. Their eyes are soft and the breed is incredibly smart, if not a bit goofy. They love kids and have the rare ability to excel in any discipline. They can grow from 15hh-18hh, though usually somewhere in the middle.
The horses readopted through the Euphorian Retired Racehorse Project are looking for a new loving home and a new job. They’ve tried racing and have either retired or decided the sport wasn’t for them. Either way, they are ready for the next chapter in their life. Some of these horses will come with a little training already, and will have their new discipline already determined. Although others you’ll get to pick how they move forwards!

When Trix first started out in the racing industry,
she was unstoppable. She was young, flashy, and intense.
throughout her younger years, Trix had an
incredible track record. Up until her accident she
accumulated around $90,000 in winnings. She was a
champion. As we all know things can change in an
instant. One day Trix was turned out into a pasture
with new mares to see how she would adjust to a new
dynamic. One of the eldest mares was aggressive
and did not appreciate Trix's playful energy.
To teach her a lesson, the eldest mare chased Trix
around the pasture, both galloping at full speed. What
Trix failed to realize is she was running right towards
and oak tree and was destined for a head on collision.
The mare veered left and before Trix could stop she
ran head first into the tree, collapsing from the injury
she sustained. When Trix woke up she was in a stall with
her owners standing by her side, talking amongst themselves.
It turns out Trix had severe neurological damage and they
didn't know the extent of it. Trix attempted to stand
but ended up wobbling all over the place like a newborn
foal.
She went through months of physical therapy, attempting
to regain her strength and determination for racing,
but she had given up. It was decided Trix would be put down
because she could no longer race or do any
type of competition because of her balance issues
and neurological damage.
But a rescue swooped in, saw her story and how much suffering
she was going through. So they took her off the owners hands
and brought her to a rehabilitation farm for horses with
special needs.
There she met her best friend Leroy, an ex-military EOD
detection dog. He lost one of his legs and retired early
to the family who owned the therapy barn.
He sensed Trix's pain and sadness and made sure she
always had a friend.
Trix learned how to live with her off balance and
neurological problems and now is used as a therapy
horse specifically for children. She is a gentle giant
and loves when the children are around because
she doesn't feel judged by them.

Mosaic is a very timid mare. Her prior owner says she has always been this way, and that nothing they did could help push her in a better path. They tried all kinds of methods in an attempt to despook her, but absolutely nothing worked.

Upon arriving at Elysian Eventing, Mosaic preferred to be in her stall, day and night. She rarely interacted with the other mares, and made sure to avoid eye contact with everyone. She made it very difficult for us to help us, as her prior owner suggested. Of course, we still tried to work with her, starting up our own despooking attempts, all of which turned out to be unsuccessful.

One day, after some work with her in the small round pen, we decided to let her go into one of our larger pastures that did not have many horses. Majority of the horses in this pasture were geldings, older mares, or stallions that really did not care about their place in the pecking order. As soon as the gate closed behind us in the pasture, Mosaic began to frantically look around. I very slowly removed her halter, making sure that I didn't make any sudden movements. She didn't dare to move after the halter was off, and remained in the same place for at least 10 minutes. Just as I was about to go grab her and bring her back into her stall, I saw Myth slowly approach her.

Mosaic became very rigid, barely even breathing. But Myth continued to get closer. After about a minute, Myth was now within a foot of Mosaic. I could see Mosaic's eyes darting back and forth, then falling back to the ground in order to avoid making eye contact with Myth. Slowly, Myth lowered his head next to hers, and ever so slightly nudged her cheek. This small touch seemed to relieve some of Mosaic's fear. I could see the tension slowly begin to leave her body. The closer Myth got, and the longer he was touching her, the more relaxed Mosaic became. I was thrilled to see her so relaxed! Since she arrived at Elysian Eventing, she had never appeared to be as relaxed as she was in that moment.

I quickly went into the stable to tell some of the girls about the bizarre interaction I had just witnessed and we got to thinking. One of the girls suggested that we move Mosaic's stall to be next to Myth's. Hopefully, this will make her more relaxed more often.

A few weeks after moving her stall, Mosaic had become an entirely different horse. She became more confident in herself, and learned to trust people and horses. She was very attached to Myth and could rarely be found without him by her side. He was her safety blanket, a complete relief to all of us here.

Now, the two are happier than ever. Myth has taught her how to be a real horse again. She enjoys her time in the pasture, and no longer spooks at every sudden sound or movement. We are hoping that we will be able to retrain her under a saddle soon and make her comfortable as a lesson horse. Although, that may be moving a bit too quickly for her, so we will just have to see how it goes. For now, she will just relax in the pasture all day with Myth, and play under the blanket of the night sky.
