What are they hunting?:
xxxxxThe forest was only covered in the faintest hint of silver, greens and blues so dull they might as well have been black. The only source of light was the glowing moon, which didn’t cast its glow upon the blanket of night the forest wore. Not even a feline would be able to make out the shapes of the leaves tonight. But with that said, there was no breeze, nothing to stir them; nothing except the small shape that stumbled blindly past and along a thin but well used path.
xxxxxThe creature, coated in a gray and black pelt, came to a halt in a small clearing. She stood in the middle where the moon’s gleam reached best, her muzzle tilted upwards to allow her to gaze at the endless ebony. A single star shone in the midst of the void, far off from anything else in the night sky. But then something flickered in the corner of her sight, something small among the still forest. It was something so dark it couldn’t be seen, and something that could only appear in a dream.
xxxxxShe quickly set her sight on the space that moved, yet there was nothing there. If there were then she couldn’t see it or whatever dark omen it bore. But then something moved again, further, deeper, in the forest. She turned her gaze to it, determined not to let it escape her eyes once more. Only then did a small bug bite her ear, and she lost the flicker when she looked away to swat at the pest. With a few scared steps she then blundered toward where she thought whatever was moving might be. Her paws hit a trailing vine and she tripped, landing in the soft, cold grass. Flailing around for a moment, she paused when seeing the movement in the shadows again. Whatever it was still lurked, and she scrambled up to face it once more.
xxxxxBut by the time she got close enough, it was gone. Over on the other side of the clearing, bushes rustled, and she spun around so fast she almost fell in her attempt to look. She launched herself forward, hitting the hard ground with her face once again. In her desperate attempt to get up and keep running, the movement took form and, with a flurry of wings, leapt into the air and flew across the moon.
