Kalon Name: Orpheo
What are they hunting?:
A paw, stepping silently through the undergrowth. A quiet exhalation of breath, misting in the cool night air. Pale eyes searching, always searching. Orpheo's dark fur blended in with the leaves and branches, a perfect disguise for nighttime. He tilted his head and sniffed at the air. North.
Realigning his position, Orpheo continued to move through the trees, the only other sound the soft calling of a whip-poor-will somewhere overhead. The night wildlife always felt familiar, somehow, like old friends that one was always happy to see. Carefully navigating through the fallen leaves as silently as possible, so as not to disturb the bird, Orpheo padded forward. A small sound, distant but clear, caused him to twitch his ears forward, lowering himself closer to the ground. The bird took flight, the flapping of its wings loud in the still air. Orpheo cursed in his head but continued dutifully forward, the fur of his stomach just brushing the ground.
Another sound! A twig snapping, some leaves rustling. The sound of running, many feet hitting the ground. Orpheo crept closer and closer, his teeth bared and his breath coming silently, puffs of vapor drifting lazily away from him. He was close, he could tell, and his target was just...right...
There! Orpheo pounced and roared in satisfaction as a squeal sounded from beneath him. "Foolish kits! I told you to disguise your steps and listen to the sounds of the forest. Anyone could hear you coming from miles away." He cuffed the kit gently across the back of their head, using his other paw to pull the other one out of the tree they climbed into. The kit tumbled unceremoniously to the ground, grumbling, but Orpheo was certain they weren't injured in any way. "How are you meant to be a successful hunter if you scare all of the prey away, tramping through the trees like a herd of buffaloes?"
"Yeah, yeah..." the first kit muttered as the second tilted their head in confusion. "What are buffaloes?"
Orpheo sighed in exasperation. "Forget it. Come on, let's do it again. This time actually try to be a bit more quiet, you hear?" Not waiting for a response, he turned and slipped into the forest, using the shadows as cover. He could hear the kits as they pranced away, and Orpheo allowed himself a rare smile. It was time to hunt again. [ 400 / 400 ]
