Prompt;;Fennel stared down upon the empty nests. It was so quiet- peaceful as well. For an instant she thought she could feel the sun on her pelt again, and hear the whispers, laughs and jokes of her kinfolk. Yet staring at the scene which once held so many cats- the ghostly voices of her mind- she felt as if a knot was being tied in her stomach. The sweet sunshine was gone with it, for above the sky was filled with clouds.
The feline jumped as a rustling sounded near her. A cat had shouldered out from the bushes, letting out a meow of pain as he tugged at something in his paw. Fennel scoffed and hurried over, shaking off the chill as she distracted herself.
"Thorn?"
"Oh- yeah, just a-ahh ow! Warn me next time ok?!"
Fennel had quickly pulled it from her companion's paw. She gave his paw lick then gave him a playful shove, before turning away from him, carefully avoiding looking at the nests. "Catnip, keep your paw out of anything too dirty until we find cobweb."
"... Right." The tom mumbled before following her. She was leading him away from the nests, and she flinched as he stopped and said. "This place sure is a ghost town."
Fennel remained silent. She'd hoped to avoid telling this newcomer the truth of the area; she had wanted some company. A friend. And this young tom seemed to be just the thing... but if he knew.
"Fennel... where is everybody, anyways?"
Fennel sighed. She couldn't keep it from him; he'd been nice enough to help her. He deserved to know.
"... Nightshade plague got them."
Catnip let out a startled gasp, his eyes growing wide.
"Seriously?! Fennel, we shouldn't even be here, you know that illness- The area might be-"
Fennel turned to look at him, swallowing the grief and stating. "Don't worry too much- it's... been a few months. Over half a year. I haven't got it, I don't think will."
The two were soon left clearing, Catnip still showing visible signs of nausea at the idea while Fennel just tried not to think about it. A few hours later, the two young cats were resting in a cave, the sound of rain echoing around them as they snuggled together for warmth.
"I'm sorry, Fennel." Catnip said after a moment.
"About what happened here. You were so alone for so long, weren't you?"
Fennel nodded, still steeling herself against the tears, but not saying a word.
"Well... you have me now. And I won't tell... anyone back home about the plague. They might worry and I want them to accept you."

Fennel was accepted into Fernglade with no issue, the only words said about her old family being they had died out, with no specifics. Since then Catnip has become her mate and she and him have both risen to power in the group; and thinking back on that day they became friends is both precious and painful.
