Love is when you go to any lengths just to be by their side. It is being willing to leap into danger or to face your fear. Love lets you be at peace with the world because you have all you need. Love is when you accept that they are their own cats, and that you can not always keep them. Sometimes you have to let go of them, and let go of the past in order to embrace the future. Being in love is letting them live their lives, even if it hurts, even if it means they leave you. Love is a complicated emotion, as it is more than just looks. Love dwells inside, not in looks. Sometimes you'll never know you love them til you let them go.

Prompt: "Love? Why are you asking me about this?" Carys muttered, her eyes squinting in confusion, glossed over and tinted blue from her struggling vision as she aged. "I'm merely an elder, and only here to give advice; I'm not here to express my opinions..." The feline before her pressed on, repeating the question. Carys drew out a long sigh before taking in a sharp breath, retorting in her raspy, aged voice. "You're asking the wrong cat, kiddo. Perhaps you should ask Hemlock, she has a beautiful family with Maverick. Or even Mayflower, she has an extensive family with Duskclan... I guess you really want to know, huh?" The cat before her nodded, and she cracked, sighing softly.

"Love is a powerful force. It can bind others together for a life time, yet it is equally as capable of destroying everything one knows. Love is not a bad thing to have, per say, you just shouldn't let it control your entire being. For example, many cats believe they must live in this cycle. Grow up, become a warrior, find love, family, and then die. Rinse and repeat. That is the mentality many of us were forced into. But that isn't life! Life is when you live in the moment, and take those risks, steal that prey, and get into that fight." She took another deep breath in, coughing up some of her lung while she was at it.

"What I'm saying is, love is a gift and an asset, not a necessity. In my elder ages, I have never found love, nor have I desired to. I lived my life to the fullest, because I was too fiery for a tom to keep me controlled." She said with a hearty laugh, her chest heaving desperately for breath.

After many moons of living in GealachClan, love is many things to Neriteswirl. There are the obvious aspects, such as two young warriors finding themselves wanting to be beside each other for the rest of their lives, showing their love through a mate ceremony. A mother's love is renowned, as Neriteswirl has yet to hear about a mother who would not sacrifice everything for her children.

However, Neriteswirl sees love in other places, too. Childhood friends touching heads together in happy greeting. A tom bringing fresh moss to his pregnant mate, helping to make her as comfortable as she could be with a swollen belly. She sees love in the apprentices begrudgingly pulling ticks from elders, and bringing them prey before they even have a meal themselves. Medicine cats exude love through their entire role within the clan, caring for each cat individually with their illnesses, injuries and worries. Mentors training their apprentices, having them compete a move over and over again until they perfect it.

To Neriteswirl, love also includes loving yourself. If you love yourself, you'll allow yourself to rest when you need it, and care for your body and needs. "If you truly love yourself, you'll be able to make it through anything, because you'll know that you deserve happiness and a content heart in life". To Neriteswirl, love is deeply rooted in everything the clan does. They respect their clanmates, provide for one another, and show care and concern for their fellow felines. And it is why she teaches that, if cats can love each other, then they can love themselves, too.

To Claywing? Love means enjoying your friends' company. It's interacting with and enjoying your family. To her, it means appreciating the memories with her friends and family. In terms of a mate, however... She doesn't understand what it means very well. She sees cats walking with their mates, talking and laughing and nuzzling each other. She'll occasionally see one's eyes light up at the sound of an arrival of kits. Sometimes, she sees them argue, and sometimes it falls apart. Sometimes, she sees one comfort another, like after a tragic loss. Occasionally, they're alone waiting for their beloved to return from something from a journey to a patrol. Maybe, she thought, love in the form of a mate meant getting through the hardest of times, and celebrating thee good times. in heathertufts life she has experienced much heartache, but never heartbreak. for her love isn’t something that is a need, she never allows herself to reach such a low point in herself to need someone else so greatly. perhaps this is why her relationships so far have fizzled out? heathertuft has a mind that is always turning and always trying to decide what is the best situation for her to be in at every point in time. when it finally settles on taking someone out of her life that it believes has become toxic and or harmful, she has no issues with settling the issues and moving forward with her life. love is something that she learns from, it teaches her how to grow and take away from experiences in life. it isn’t a deciding factor in her mind, it’s a door way. and when that hall has come to an end, she doesn’t fret when it’s time to turn around and retrace her steps.

perhaps others see her as shallow and unloving, they might think that a she-cat such as herself needs to find someone to settle down with. heathertuft doesn’t allow for others’ viewing of her to affect her life choice in the least. the most you might get out of her in response could be a shoulder shrug or a smirk that simply dares you to continue with the scolding. if you’re looking for a weak target, look elsewhere, she most definitely is not what you want.

It could be beautiful and exciting, and at other times, it could be terrible and heartbreaking.

She realized, too late, that her love was the latter, as her mate paced furiously before her.

"I swear to the moons, you could've gotten yourself killed!" His claws scraped the stone. "How do you think the pack would've reacted to the loss of their queen?"

Terrified, Primrose, pressed herself into the cave wall, wishing she could disappear. She had never seen him in such a frenzy before.

"I lost one of my best knights today because of you," he spat. "And to think it was all over you."

"B-but Mamba-"

"If it wasn't for me, you would be dead, and the group would be in absolute chaos." A snarl rumbled in his throat. "I'm putting guards on you every second now; we can't afford another loss."

He's doing it for my own good. For my safety. Over and over she repeated these words in her head, as if they were all she knew. And yet, despite how much her heart wanted to believe it, her mind knew otherwise.

He loves me... right?

She wasn't so sure anymore.

As he stalked out of the den, tail lashing in fury, she buried her muzzle under her paws, shoulders shaking with sobs. Ever since he'd chosen her as his mate many moons ago, she'd believed - oh, she tried so hard to - that he loved her, and there was finally some cat who saw past her stunning looks and found the beauty within.

No matter how much he hissed or howled, she believed he loved her.

No matter how many times he had punished her, she told herself he loved her.

No matter how many times he'd betrayed her, she convinced herself he loved her.

And she was wrong.

It had been her life or his top knight's... and he chose hers. She thought it was love.

But he only needed her to live to keep the group together. Without a queen, they would break apart... regardless of whether the queen ever had any purpose or value.

She felt as if her heart had been shattered into a million pieces; she was broken. She had been tricked and used, and all this time, she had been blind only because she refused to see. She shied away from the truth, and now she paid the price.

A cat nuzzled her gently. "Mother."

A warm feeling filled her cold heart once again as she drew the cat into her side. The amber fur was soft and warm and comforting, and with the new presence her heart began to mend.

She finally pulled away, blinking at the newcomer. The cat stood in the afternoon light, outlined in a halo of molten gold, like an angel straight from the heavens.

An angel who had come to save her.

"It's okay, it's okay," her daughter was murmuring, gently stroking Primrose's back with her tail. "Hush, everything's going to be okay." She comforted the queen just as the queen had done for her many moons ago, back when she was a helpless kit.

Love was a complicated thing.

It could be beautiful and exciting, and at other times, it could be terrible and heartbreaking.

But here, she knew she had found the former.

Love... it's something that Teaselthorn has never had time for. She has always been searching for something else, swallowed in a trap of anger, stuck on the pieces of her past that she cannot get back. If she truly had to answer a question about love, what it means to her is the soft fur of her mother, telling stories of the heroes that they both could become. The mother that was never really there, too absorbed in making the perfect world she dreamed of become a reality. Teaselthorn truly wanted her mother to succeed, if only they would finally be able to spend some time together. Her mother was taken away from her too soon, unable to make that world as she saw it, and Teaselthorn's life crumbled.

She doesn't have time for love, at least not in the sense of finding a partner. It is worthless to her. She only has time for her mother's love, wanting to achieve what her mother was unable to. She would never love, she was sure of that. After all - how could you love when you had bigger things to accomplish? No. There was no room in Teaselthorn's cold heart for love.
