During the summer of an oddly warm year, my friends and I were having a blast camping in and exploring The Red Branch Forest. It was filled with delicate creatures, and beautiful red berries, along with trees of course! It was our fourth night of camping, and my friend Samuel and I decided things were getting a bit boring, we needed to spice em up! There were six of us camping, Samuel, Erika, Cameron, Dutch, Charmeine, and me, Erin. Samuel walked up to me that morning and we developed our prank plan. A bear jump scare. It consisted of a checklist about the prank.
First, we get a bear costume from last year’s Senior High School pep-rally (growing up in a town filled with countryfolk, our school mascot was a bear).
Second, fake bushes to disguise a hidden camera, so we could replay them their surprise!
Third, choose a forest clearing by a hiking trail for setting.
Fourth, lead group on "hike" but really there’s me in a bear costume ready to scare them!
And that was it, our basic master plan, fool proof, right? We rushed to pick up the bear costume. It was big, hairy, and heavy. Next, we went to the stores and purchased the real looking fake bushes. Odd things to find at the local Walmart eh? Now things were getting in place. We arranged the bushes when the others were out buying some more supplies for the next few days. Everything was going just as planned. I woke early the next morning, and quietly gathered the gear. I carried a bag with the camera, camera stand, and bear costume with calls to the clearing, which thankfully wasn’t too far. Even for early in the morning, it was already very warm out. Approaching the clearing I had already broken a sweat. I assembled the camera, carefully hidden between the fake bushes. Samuel and I had planned to go all out with our prank, we didn’t take any chances for things to go wrong. I quickly got in the bear suit, and hid beside the clearing outskirts. As the sun rose higher, so did the temperature. After about 15 minutes, I could feel sweat over my body, this suit was getting extremely hot, not helped by the thick dark fur. 30 minutes later, I began to feel a bit light headed. Where was the group? Shouldn’t they be here already? I could feel myself getting dazed and light headed, and before I knew it, I was out cold.
“Where are you?” I heard muffled cries, and my consciousness began to recollect. Where was I? What happened? Why am I… My thoughts were interrupted by Charmeine hurriedly removing the suit head. “Erin are you okay? Samuel told us about the prank, did you faint? My goodness your covered in sweat..” I slowly looked at everyone, and we all began to laugh. So I guess not all pranks work out, especially when you don’t take in account the temperature!

extra: Erin is a sneaky, mischievous prank loving guy. But he also has a love for nature and the forest. To him, it is a special and beautiful place to be. Erin feels that he can go into a forest and never walk out. He loves to string his hammock alongside a lake, and listen to the birds sing. It’s a soothing getaway for an action lover. He doesn’t tell many, but up near the Red Branch Forest there lies a beautiful, shimmering lake. The lake is a bustling place for animals of all sorts, moose, deer, elk, foxes, rabbits, sparrows, bears, and so much more. One time he event tried to paint the special place, but that resulted in a mess a prank could of never caused. Laying beside the lake he tends to journal and write. It sends him into a state of mind that puts himself to rest. In the forest, laying by the lake, no worries flood his mind like a bursting dam. Instead, a gentle stream flows through, sending away all the tension in his body. And Erin is always wanting to watch a moose wade across the water, or watch a delicate sparrow soar above. (200)
