prompt:
Iri’s worst nightmare is.. others finding out her worst nightmare. Perhaps she’d tell you her fear is bees, or something sharp. But, truthfully she’s aftaid of the dark. Who knows what could be lurking in there? Iri’s imagination often gets the best of her as she stares off into the nightly abyss, shapes and ragged creatures traipsing about. It does ease her slightly, knowing that she blends in.. mostly anyways. Although her beautiful fiery eyes would stick out against the night sky. Even though she thinks she sticks out, and is deathly afraid, others would see her eyes as fireflies from a distance, and think nothing of it in the dark. If only poor Iri understood her fear was nothing to be afraid of.

prompt:

Ash’s worst nightmare isn’t something you’d normally think of, like creepy crawlies or clowns. No, Ash’s greatest fear is.... chickens? That’s right. Chickens.

”Have you ever seen those things???? They’ve got beady little red eyes, they always look like they’re watching you. They are nasty little birds and are always ready to attack. They seem harmless, but have you never looked at their feet?! I’m almost certain the talons on their feet are sharper than knives. Absolutely terrifying. Not to mention the beaks, oh the beaks! They can just peck peck peck... peck the living daylight out of each other! Or you! There’s a reason it’s called a pecking order, and it’s because chickens just don’t stop pecking, stabbing with their beaks! I know it seems silly to be afraid of a bird, but you have to remember that chickens are related to dinosaurs. That should be enough to give ANYONE nightmares.” ~A chicken testimonial by Ash

name: Clementine
gender: heifer
collar color: eye color with a little orange on it?

prompt:
Clementine was named after both her most momentous childhood experience and her worst nightmare: oranges. Well, that’s what she liked to believe. She was really named for her big orange eyes and the fruit farm she was raised on, but that isn’t the point. Her “traumatic” childhood event is not a long, scary story, but it’s one that she’ll never forget.

The young calf was only about two weeks old when this calamity took place. The day had started just like any other. She slept in, woke up for breakfast, and then had a midday nap with her mother. After a few hours of rest, she felt full of energy and ready to play. Clementine stretched in the sunlight, ready to play.

Her mother was still asleep, and so were the other calves, so she decided to just run around and play by herself. A big beetle flew right past the calf’s nose, and she took off after it out of curiosity. She barreled out of the barn and down the hill, trying her hardest to catch up with the bug. She had become so focused on the beetle that she hadn’t payed any attention to her other surroundings, and when the beetle took a sharp turn she snapped back to reality and saw a terrible thing in front of her. She was rapidly running down the hill with no chance of stopping, and she was about to crash into a large orange tree!

Clementine crashed into the tree with a loud thud. She slowly sat up, shaking her head, when she began to hear bouncing sounds above her head. As soon as she looked up, hundreds of oranges came crashing down from the tree and landed on top of her.

Overrun by oranges, Clementine struggled to find a way out, for they were all around her. She wailed as loudly as she could for help; she wondered if she’d drown in oranges. Just when she’d almost given up, she saw a sting hoof digging through the oranges. Her mother finally dug away enough oranges to find her daughter, and rescued her from her fruity fate. Every since that day, Clementine has been terrified of both oranges and orange trees; She keeps her distance from the dangerous trees at all costs, and she rarely sleeps without remembering the feeling of being toppled to the ground by tangerines.

      prompt:

iindentdrue nestled herself into the straw lining her stall, eyes heavy with exhaustion from the day’s busy happenings. she watch the sun fade low onto the horizon and the stars filing after, lighting the dark night with their twinkling, sending the heifer into a deep slumber…

iindentbefore she knew it, her eyes flung open at a sound──it was a loud sound, one made by a foreign object. there was a crackling, popping, snapping flooding her ears, flashes of red and orange in her foggy vision. she blinked again, desperately trying to adjust her vision. another crash sounded, this one much louder, creating a thud and whoosh of hot air from behind her. more red, more crackling and popping. by the time drue had adjusted her eyes to her surroundings, she knew exactly what had interrupted her sleep──fire. it engulfed the straw surrounding her, its heat lashing at her nose, and as she looked up into the beams of the barn, they too were alight with flames crawling along their surface, causing some to crumble and fall to the ground below. drue, in her sleep-driven confusion, had to get up.

iindentshe rose herself onto all four hooves and scrambled to find a small gap through the fire, anything to fit her, her eyes scanning back and forth. a distressed call escaped through her lips. where were the others? had they escaped? had they forgotten of her? were they still asleep? no matter her worries, though, drue pushed herself to the edge of her stall, furthest from the flames inching along the bedding of straw, clawing at her hooves in threat to take her under. she finally spotted a break and lunged through it, navigating her way through the fallen rafters and beams alike, burns and welts forming along her legs as she ran. she paid no mind to these injuries and continued to push through, for she knew her life depended on it.

iindentwhen she saw that bout of darkness, like a portal into a new world, the heifer rumbled out yet another call (as though it’d do some justice for her) and directed herself as best she could toward it, flinching as burning embers stung her charcoal-black pelt. as she left that inferno and entered the real world, drue was struck with a sudden realization──she was all alone. where were the others? the heifer swung her head back and forth, looking for the slightest movement. are they still inside?

iindentas she swung her entire body around, to face the raging fire that engulfed her former home, the barn, her mouth dropped open in utter shock as voices──yes, voices──entered her ears; they sounded of those of her friends, family, sisters and brothers… all calling out her name… drue… drue… help… drue… they grew faint, almost incoherent, almost gone. “no.” she whispered.

iindentthat was when drue opened her eyes again, this time into the real world, and as she looked about she realized it was still night. only a few moments had gone by in a dream that dragged on for what felt like hours...

gender: heifer
collar color: Lavender

prompt:

Whisper's worst nightmare is fire. As a young calf, part of her barn caught on fire during a lightning storm. No one was severely injured but Whisper still dreams about that day and wakes up in chills. Cows were bellowing warning calls for everyone to get out. Her mother frantically got Whispy up from her sleep and pushed her out the barn doors. Whispy stood under her mother in the pasture, shivering from the rain and cold, while her mother and all the other cows watched as the blaze knocked their home down. The barn was rebuilt within several days but Whispy never fully recovered from the trauma. Every now and then, she will see the smoke of something burning in the distance and feels herself paralyze, even for a minute, and she's brought back to that day.

Onyx doesn't often have Nightmares, but her worst night terrors are often of her deepest fears.

Rushing . . . Roaring . . . Pulling

The cold water rushed over her back, it soaked down to her skin, weighing down her body . . . Choking
It fogged her eyes, and bubbled around her nostrils, her neck straining to breath in. Reaching for any air . . . Gasping
She tasted the salty water as it burned down the back of her throat. . . . Gagging
A burst of water knocked against her legs, tipping her body over. She kicked out but lost her grip on the slippery smooth pebbles below. Her body shivered and heaved as the current pulled her along, head bobbing out of the water to be met with another wave crashing down on her.
