Orion watched in wonder as the stars shone brightly through the infinite darkness. The twinkling night sky was full of unrestricted beauty, and he could get lost just by watching and imagining the worlds beyond this one.
“Are you watching that old documentary again? I thought you said you were watching your favourite tv show?” Dexter’s voice interrupted his thoughts.
“It’s not old!” Orion instinctively retorted defensively without ever tearing his eyes away from the screen “And it is my favourite tv show! Documentaries are basically just non-fiction tv shows.”
“Yea not old,” Dexter scoffed good-naturedly. “It was only filmed a couple hundred years ago.”
“Well we can’t see this type of view anymore! Everything is all polluted, and nature has just been destroyed,” Orion sighed. “There’s just so much beauty and mystery in nature, but you can’t see any of it anymore.”
“It is a shame…” Dexter agreed grudgingly, sitting down on the sofa next to Orion. “But one day you’ll be able to personally see it in real life. When you get that degree, you can join the government and get on one of those fancy spacecrafts.”
“But I don’t want to work with the government! They’re the ones that caused…” Orion trailed off, motioning towards the desolate environment.
“Don’t!” Dexter exclaimed, shushing Orion. “These walls can have ears! And besides, isn’t it your dream to go to space?”
“Yes! I mean, I don’t know. If it means helping the government cause more destruction, I’d rather just stick to watching these documentaries.” Orion declared.
Dexter simply sighed and did not argue further. Instead, he made himself comfortable next to Orion, and the two of them comfortably leaned against each other, watching the remainder of the documentary.
