oh, memories! wrote:
It could, perhaps, be expected that the favorite bug was in the name.
Fritillarykit seemed to be destined to be a bug fanatic. Every day, his parents would teach him about these creatures; from the ant to the argus, they all showed beautiful in their own ways.
And yet there was the fritillary. There was a special sort of attachment to it; some close memory, that held on and didn't let go...
"Come on, Fritillarypaw. Let me show you." she had nudged her son forward; into the light he came, and into the swarm of...
"Are these what you were talking about?" Fritillarypaw gazed in wonder. Indeed, there were many; illuminated by the glow of the sunlight, they flew and soared, and Fritillarypaw would do his best to catch (...then release, of course) them all.
"I'm afraid they didn't live through the night." the cold news, and so soon after the wonderful sight he saw...
And as he lay in the forest, bitter of the bugs; as he swore never to go near them again, a fritillary descended; drifting towards the apprentice, almost as a... sign?
"Only medicine cats get signs." he had muttered; only then did he notice the flash of opaque ginger fur, and next; gone?
Although Fritillarytail does not admit it, he got his impeccable balance from his capturing of bugs. And thus his name; after the skill he claimed, and the skill well earned.
He always feels quite the warm feeling whenever he sees one, drifting along.
