Silent Night echoed throughout the home, and a young Kalon hummed to it. She was pinning from her to there, tying string on push pins, connecting photos and papers that cluttered a large board. Suddenly, the door opened and another Kalon stepped in. She smiled and rolled her eyes as she saw friend at it again. She opened the window, letting fresh air into the home. Milk Moon looked up, tensing as the cool breeze touched her fur. A stack of un-pinned papers were lifted into the air with it, alerting Moony. Th chase through the house began, until finally, the papers slid gracefully through the window. The visiter closed the window quickly, leading Moony back to the desk. "I've told you before, you don't have to do this." She said softly. "But I do! They don't believe me!" Moony gasped at her friend. "True, yet you've been at this for three months and haven't proved anything!," The Kalon murmured, knowing that her opinion wouldn't make a difference. "I will prove it, though," Milk Moon said, "The moon is made of cheese."

¹..The interior of the observatory glowed a purple hue, the color
coming from a lit candle inside a purple, glass orb. A lone figure
stood in the darkened room, forepaws resting on a window ledge
as she looked out into the never-ending darkness.
...Soft pawsteps cracked through the silence like a whip. Just as
the pawsteps slowed to a halt, the figure turned to face the
direction that the noise was coming from.
...The newcomer spoke respectfully to the lone kalon. “Umbra,”
he began, watching as the female turned back to face the
cosmos, “we can’t wait any longer. The supergiant’s expansion
has slowed considerably over the past few days. It won’t be long
before it collapses completely.”

².Umbra calmly stared into the blackness that
surrounded the observatory. The metal sphere
had been suspended in space for centuries,
orbiting a lone star in a galaxy with no name.
This observatory was her home, had been her
home for many years, and it was about to be
destroyed by the star which had kept it safely
in orbit since its construction.

³..The male shifted his paws on the floor, watching Umbra patiently.
...Umbra, sensing his growing nervousness, spoke softly, but even the soft
voice could be heard like thunder in the silence of the observatory. “You
need not tell me what is obvious, Ushiwaka. I can feel all happenings in the
universe, an expanding star mere kilometers from me is not something I am
unaware of.”
...Ushiwaka released a distressed sigh, his head falling forward to stare at
the floor, “We must begin to gather our research, Umbra. It will not be long
before we have to abandon the observatory.”
...The girl finally stepped back from the window, her paws landing gracefully
on the floor as she stepped off the ledge. “How long until the shuttle is
ready?” she asked, turning and padding confidently across open floor. Despite
being unable to visually see anything around her, the kalon never showed any
hesitance when she walked.
...Ushiwaka lifted his head to look at her when she spoke, watching her nerv-
-ously. “I started the engines last night. It should only take a few more days
to be warmed enough for proper space travel.” He shifted his paws, keeping
his eyes on his friend, who didn’t appear near as worried as he currently felt.

the staircase which lead down to the storage rooms. “Is
there enough room to store all of our research?” She asked
it with little hope, believing she already knew the answer.
...The male turned so he was facing the same direction as
her, “Far from it, I’m afraid. I’ve already stored as much as
I can on the shuttle’s hard drive, but there is only so much
we can risk getting into the hands of the republic.”
...Umbra shook her head sadly, “I assumed as much.” She
began moving forward, “Come along, Ushiwaka. We have
work to do.”

this place is huge... my group leader looks back at me as i pause, gaping at the large planet display in the main lobby, him smirking.
"you better get used to it soon, ms. abigail," he teases.
the other interns laugh as we continued on the tour, me sulking in the back and thinking of comebacks i could of said, but avoided saying.
i don't want to get on anyone's bad side before we start working together, but i'm pretty sure i got a better score on my interview than pretty much all of the other interns. it was now my turn to smirk while playing out my little work fantasies.

we all hop on the levitating platform at the main desk and after the group leader gets situated with the controls, the platform starts to move. i gulp, there were barely any of these in the rural prairies where i grew up in. all we had to depend on was mother nature, and i will say, i am very proud of myself for just now getting a cellphone a month before i started work. although, i did quickly learn that not having one would prove unhelpful in day-to-day life in an urban place like this.

i'd always wanted to move to the city as a kit to study aerospace engineering, but my parents were content in the country and i and my little body could do nothing but pester them about it. finally, when i turned 18, they said i could move out but ONLY if i got a job first, so i worked my rump off doing my best in college and got a job with one of the largest companies here; i guess you could say that my parents were the protective type.

i will admit, i did miss my parents a lot when i first moved despite the fact that they called me almost every day. to combat this home sickness, i constructed a plan where i'm able to wake up and see their faces every morning in my apartment; my polaroid pictures.
polaroid photos hooked onto yellow gleaming LED lights hang all along my walls, covering almost every inch of wall space i have.
i've been obsessed with my polaroid camera ever since i've gotten it, which just happened to be exactly 18 years ago, on my 5th birthday.

it came with 5 packs of camera film, a case, and i received it all with a typical 5 year old giggle and beam, not realizing how much it would mean to me when i grew up. the same camera still lies in the very bottom of my briefcase i left in my own private room in my new workplace.

if only wishes came true, and then those polaroids could become real and authentic. i hope you visit soon mom and dad, i miss you- i’m doing my best in this big city! xoxo

Jīqìrén was created to explore space, find other planets, and discover alien creatures.
He's able to levitate or fly through space with ease, along with the help of his lithe
body and jet-pack propellers. His laser vision is used as a defense in case of danger,
and he has had to use it against vicious aliens. Although his mission is peaceful,
there have been times where he's almost been killed by confused creatures.

He currently resides on the planet Phol'ue, home to fire-wielding aliens that have
taken a liking to him and are now showing him all aspects of their culture. In a
month, Jīqìrén will have to return to earth and report back to Starfleet about his
findings. Besides, that is his duty and that's why he was created in the first place.
