Truth be told, he was pretty sure he had dozed off at some point during those few painfully slow hours. The vibration in his pocket had thankfully woke him up from his trance, only to make him wish it hadn’t. It was a text from Reuben, that man was always up to no good. He could only imagine what scheme he had planned for today.
"Hey man! hope you're up for some exploring later today, I found a wicked cool place!" Wicked cool. How wicked and cool could one place be? Both hesitantly and suspiciously, he replied:
"Yeah sure thing. Almost done with this lecture, I'll meet you at my dorm room in a couple hours?" When the text was sent, Tulio slid the phone back into his pocket and pinned his eyes back onto the lecture board that seemed endless.
Reuben stood just outside Tulio's dorm and waved, having met up with a little earlier than Tulio would have liked. None the less, he returned a small wave and let him in.
"So, what crazy adventure do you have planned for us today?" He asked curiously.
"You won’t believe it! Only a few streets over, and an old family home at that! It's being torn down in a few weeks!"
Of course it was. "Why do I agree to do this stuff with you..."
"Oh come on~ I'll be with you! What are you scared of?" What was he scared of? If trespassing wasn’t enough to be catious about; then nothing.
"I'm not scared. If something happens, and my shcolarship is taken away, you won’t hear the end of it. If anyone should be scared, it’s you.”
"You
are scared! Ha!” Reuben was nothing but smug, as though he’d called Tulio’s bluff. “It's ok big guy, no one is going to be lookin’ for us. Besides, you’re right. If I’ve got to listen to you for the rest of my life, I’ll be done for.” Both men snickered, before a hoodie had been tossed back at Tulio. Best to dress inconspiculously.
The two carefully approached the abandoned house, the door hinges had rusted and the glass windows were either cloudy or shattered. It was Reuben who so gingerly pressed his palm against the door, the soft wood creaking under his force
"Shall we?" As if Tulio had any say in the matter. He’d come this far, what harm could be done in actually going inside. Besides, the place was surprisingly more intreging than Reuben painted it out to be.
Tulio had always been a stick in the mud - square if you will. Never willing to spare an inch of his comfort zone or explore
into anything that had the potential for a less than desirable outcome, no matter how low the chances. Sometimes, all anybody ever needed was a little nudge in the right direction. A direction that wasn’t so bubble wrapped and pristine.
“So…? Wicked isn’t it?” Reuben’s face twinkled with pride. They had been inside the abanonded building for no more than half an hour, and Tulio was already noticibly more relaxed and adventerous. Even daring to go and explore on his own while Reuben trailed along behind him.
“It’s…” Tulio’s voice lingered off, leaving Reuben only to assume he was impressed. Although, his face read something more along the lines of panic, rather than impressed. The clouded window across the room had flickered red white and blue, which only meant one thing; someone notified police of their trespassing. Before Reuben really got a good look out the window, Tulio had tugged on his arm and yanked him to the far end of the building. “Stop staring! We gotta get out of here!”
The two of them had made a quick escape out the back and darted off to a back path behind the house, before beelining it back towards campus. Tulio’s heart was racing and full of bewilderment. What they had done was crazy, but never before had he felt such a rush as he had right now in this very moment.
