Cat Name: Magpie
Gender: Male
Age: 32 Moons
Clan: Autumnclan
Rank: Warrior

Prompt:
When Magpie joined Autumnclan, he had no knowledge of what life was like as a Clan cat. He was forced to leave his kittypet life because his twoleg had disappeared and didn't come back to him. While the tom roamed the forest, he came face to face with many Clans and Clan cats who did not appreciate his presence in their territories. Though, when he met Dawnstar, the leader of Autumnclan, she did not act towards him with any hostility like the other cats of the forest have. Instead, she welcomed him into Autumnclan with open paws and trained him very well so he could become the best Warrior he could be. Through this training, Magpie had realized he started to fall in love with Dawnstar. She was the only cat who was nice to him. Even the other kittypets back at the twoleg place would make fun of the way he always unknowingly stuck his tongue out when he was anxious or bored. Dawnstar didn't care that Magpie had this weird quirk. She was kind and loving towards him. Magpie didn't really know what love was before meeting Dawnstar. All he wants is to tell her the way he feels, but he is afraid that if he does, he'll lose the friendship that they have. Even though he wants nothing more than her, he is determined to keep his love for the Clan leader a secret.

Cat Name: frostrattle
Gender: molly
Age: 58
Clan: prairieclan
Rank: medicine cat

Prompt: frostrattle has a big secret, one that she has held for countless of years as well as when she has been a medicine cat or healer, for many different clans and groups of cats. her secret is that she always stores an extra ration of death berries within her den that nobody knows about.... in case of emergency. when she took the position of medicine cat in prairieclan, the leader (cattlestar) had asked her if she kept killing herbs, and of course, frostrattle answered no (this made cattlestar happy because she never liked having those around). But she does, and always has kept a secret stash of deathberries in a small nook underneath her nest. frostrattle doesn't know why she keeps a secret stash, she just does and calls it her 'emergency stash'.

Cat Name: Smokelake
Gender:Β Male
Age:Β 23 Moons
Clan: Cloudclan
Rank: Warrior

Prompt:

Smokelake has a pretty big secret, and he would be terribly embarrassed for anyone to find out...

He said that he got separated from his last clan by accident, but in reality he was kicked out. He had fallen madly in love with the medicine cat and due to clan prohibitions on medicine cat relationships, he had begged her to leave the position to her apprentice and become a queen.

She had felt honor-bound to maintain her position as she had signed up for it, and turned him down repeatedly. It got so bad that he was making a nuisance of himself, and she had told the leader she would have to leave if Smokelake would not let her be.

Not wanting to lose such a skilled medicine cat, the leader had banished Smokelake, who wandered for days until he finally gave up his March and decided to look for a home.

When they asked what had happened to his clan, he faked a story about being on the way back from a gathering and losing his way, wandering for weeks without finding anyone. The cats didn't exactly buy his story, but they let him think he was convincing and didn't bother to ask what had really happened.

Cat Name: Slatepuddle
Gender: Tom
Age: 22 moons
Clan: Orbitclan
Rank: Warrior

Prompt:
Slatepuddle knew from the slant of her eyes, and the whispering from her lips to other tom's ears, that it was over.
But he could never fully register it until she announced with joy in her heart before the clan, that yes, she was kitting with Snailwhisker's kits. And the sheer excitement that rose from the clan upon her announcement was what sent it through to him.
However much they loved as apprentices was nothing, now. A lost memory. The two's kinmanship and Slatepuddle's first love was nothing but a slip in her life which she was now to be having with an older, hunkier tom, one with a history of never loosing a battle and scars to prove it; truth was, every eligable shecat had fought for Snailwhisker’s love. But he had never imagined that the one he'd loved since he was Slatepaw, Goldenleaf, would be the one to win it or even try.
I bet he doesn’t even love you.
The thought would torment his every waking moment. As the days got brighter in the thin, clean air of newleaf, his heart grew darker watching the one he loved love another. His mood turned sour and his heart was a thick black cauldron of anger and sadness.
He never felt he’d get over it.
Goldenleaf had gotten thicker with Snailwhisker’s kits, and she was ready to burst. The handsome tom would visit her in her musty nursery den, but spent more time hunting, in an attempt to please a new warrior, Hollyfly. Slatepuddle saw in the playful flicker of Hollyfly’s tail and the way her yellow eyes gleamed around her senior warrior the same emotion he’d once felt for Goldenleaf.
And it seemed like no one in the clan noticed the two flirting but him.
But on the grand, big, exciting day, something happened.
Goldenleaf was no where to be found.
Missing from the safety of the nursery on her kitting day, Goldenleaf’s sudden disappearance sent the clan into shambles.
Except for Slatepuddle.
He’d gone out early that morning for some fresh air. The day his beloved had another tom’s kits was one he could not bear to stick around for.
It was then he heard the mewling.
The tiny mews of little kittens, introudcing themslelves into the world.
And a very familar scent.
He followed it, the mewling slowly getting louder, until he was deep in the forest, standing before the tree which laid Goldenleaf and -
He was wrong. There was only one kit.
β€œSlatepuddle;” Goldenleaf sighed in relief.
β€œGoldenleaf, what are you doing out here? Everyone’s probably going crazy looking for you and-β€œ
He noted her tiny kit. It had it’s father’s build and white patches, but the patches of tabby fur it had, soaked with new birth, were a blazing sunflower yellow, like its mothers.
β€œI know. But trust me, Slatepuddle - I had to get away from there. I didn’t plan on having him so soon,” she peered at her stomach. β€œBut you must know - I’m leaving. For good.”
β€œLeaving the clan?” Slatepuddle couldn’t believe it.
β€œI’ve never belonged, Slatepuddle. I’m miserable there. And Snailwhisker, he - he...”
β€œHe doesn’t love you,” Slatepudde finished. β€œBut I do.”
She peered up at him. He could see the strongest emotion in it - longing.
β€œI’m sorry,” she mewed. β€œI can never go back.”
β€œWhere will you go? And with a newborn kit?”
She smiled. β€œMy home.”
And he never figured out what that meant.
But he let her leave.
In the end, all he wanted was for her to be happy.
And when the time came of the clan asking about themselves about the gorgeous queen who’d suddenly disappeared, Slatepuddle never said a word.
He would keep the secret of his love’s escape forever.
Her words would always ring in his head -
Right before he watched her leave, kit in her mouth, she mewed,
β€œHe’s got a name. Puddlekit.”

    Cat Name: Magpiepaw
    Gender: female
    Age: 8 moons
    Clan: DeltaClan
Rank: apprentice (future medicine cat apprentice, once I level up to 3)

    Prompt:

    "Magpiepaw, are you listening?"

Magpiepaw snapped out of her daze guiltily. "S-sorry, Fallowstripe." She tore her eyes from the den entrance and the marsh beyond, longing to feel the river flow past her paws and the breeze part her fur.

The starry she-cat sighed and patted the leaves before her with a pale brown paw. "This is?"

"Tansy," Magpiepaw recited, lifting her muzzle to the den roof thoughtfully, "good for treating coughs."

"And this?" The faint tabby she-cat prodded a crisp green leaf with a distinct sweet scent.

    "Catmint to treat greencough."

    "Good. What's this?"

Magpiepaw stared at the flower blankly. "Goldenrod, for-"

The she-cat cut her off with a frustrated grumble. "No, this is goldenrod." She swept another flower in front of Magpiepaw with her tail. "That was marigold, used for-"

"Treating infections," the apprentice finished, and Fallowstripe huffed in mild satisfaction.

"What do I need to learn this for?" Magpiepaw protested as the spirit padded into the back of the den and began muttering while pawing the leaves around. She'd sent Magpiepaw out into the marsh to gather leaves - again - earlier this morning. "We barely have any cats in the Clan to treat-"

"You need to be prepared when they do need treating," Fallowstripe retorted, still fussing over the different herbs.

"I-I don't get it," Magpiepaw sighed. "I mean, I like learning this, but I just don't understand! I'm supposed to be training as a warrior, learning how to hunt and fight. No one else is learning about herbs, and it makes me feel weird that I'm the only one-"

"You have a gift," the starry she-cat interjected from the back of the den. "You are the one who will learn these herbs, and that's all that matters."

"A gift? But what's the point of-" Magpiepaw began, voice rising, before paws suddenly echoed in the den entrance. She spun around, almost guiltily - although there was nothing to be guilty of.

"Magpiepaw?" Brightsky frowned. "What are you doing?"

"Just, uh-" she stammered, accidentally mixing Fallowstripe's neat piles of herbs with her tail, earning an indignant huff from her starry mentor. Magpiepaw flinched, hoping Brightsky wouldn't hear the spirit's muttering, but Brightsky seemed oblivious.

"Playing with leaves?" Her voice was teasing.

Another angry hiss from Fallowstripe. "Herbs, you silly mouse-brain!"

Oddly enough, Brightsky paid no attention to the starry she-cat. Magpiepaw glanced back in bewilderment, and more to her surprise, the shimmering outline of Fallowstripe was still there, clear as day, glowing in the shadows. Why couldn't Brightsky see her?

"I'm just studying some herbs," Magpiepaw meowed quickly, sweeping the leaves aside before Brightsky could step on them on accident or anything. "You know, their healing properties."

"Oh, that boring nonsense," Brightsky scoffed with a flick of her tail. "Sure, whatever works for you, I guess. Wrenstar caught a big fish this morning and called for us to share it - whenever you'd like to come." The cream warrior grinned at Magpiepaw before bounding back outside.

Magpiepaw kept her ears pricked, waiting until Brightsky's pawsteps faded away until all she could hear was the faint murmur of Vixensnow and Wrenstar chatting in the camp clearing. She turned to Fallowstripe with wide eyes. "How come she couldn't see you?"

"As I said, you have a gift," Fallowstripe repeated calmly, sweeping the herbs together in a pile. "You're the only one who can see or hear me."

"But- but- but that's crazy!" Magpiepaw cried. "Am I hallucinating or something?"

"No, silly, I just said you have a gift. Calm down." The tabby she-cat chuckled and shook her head. "Go join your Clanmates, Magpiepaw. I'll see you tomorrow."

"A gift? What gift? No, wait, please stay-" Magpiepaw protested as the spirit began to fade.

"A gift," Fallowstripe echoed before she disappeared completely.

Age: 10 moons
Clan: Cinderclan

Prompt:

"You did well today. You'll be a fine hunter before you know it, but just watch those paws. . ."

Hidden Flame's voice dwindled in Smokepaw's mind as his eyes drifted from their trail towards the forest which lined the clan. The day was reaching it's dusk and the time for the cats to rest would soon come. Anxiety prickled his ears and whiskers as a soft howl of the wind trickled in from the leaves overhead. He paused and looked up, watching them sway in silence. Just ahead, Hidden Flame stopped to watch her apprentice, her eyes grim.

"Smokepaw." The tom's focus snapped back to the she-cat, apology gleaming in his eyes. "Go. I'll cover for you, just be back before the moon rises."

Smokepaw gently set the squirrel carcass on the grass and gazed up at his mentor, his head bowed. "Thank you, Hidden Flame." He turned swiftly and ran, making a direct path to the broad stream. Hidden Flame frowned as she watched him go. She had tried to follow him once, but he was clever - using the stream to mask his scent. She picked up the squirrel's carcass and made her way back to camp, her mind toggling between excuses for Smokepaw's absence.

The wind rushed along the young cats fur, sliding down his back and swirling behind him as he darted through the forest. Without hesitation, he jumped into the stream - which was just deep enough to touch his belly - and wadded along it's current. Above, the sky darkened slightly and a red glow began to pain the horizon. Dusk was here, and night would soon follow. Anxious, he quickened his pace in the cool water, his paws slipping on the muddy and mossy surface every now and then, though he never lost his balance.

He waded in the stream until it broke free from the forest and climbed out before it fed into the great lake. The clearing was lovely - particularly under the red-purple light of dusk - but he did not take time to focus on the beauty of it. To the North was two-leg place, and though he knew Cedarstar had forbidden every moving towards it, he jogged ahead, his sights set on the strange land filled with tall, golden plants.

Smokepaw considered these tall plants home when he was no larger than a squirrel. The tall, swaying leaves and stalks mystified him, and even now as he slipped into their cover it felt as though he was entering a new world.

He had heard the warnings and tales, how a cat cannot live both lives - he must be a warrior, or a kitty pet. There was no in between in the laws of the clan, he had understood an accepted that from the moment he agreed to follow Hidden Flame into the forest to meet her clan mates. He let go of it without a fight - surrendering the easy food, warm fire, soft beds, and company of two-legs for the trials of the clan, but there was one thing that he simply couldn't surrender. It called him back to the field, pulling him from his clan and to the forbidden territory.

He slipped from the fields and took a moment, his blue eyes gleaming as he scanned the land which surrounded the field on the two-leg's side. The familiar, tall wood and brick structure he had once slept within laid in the distance, the window he once sat at glowing warmly. But, he was not here for that.

He moved ahead, slinking to the wooden structure he had grown to know. It was rectangular and partially-complex - raised off the ground a head's length to protect the interior from the rain. From its side, the familiar silver chain which fed into the wooden den glimmered in the dying light. Smokepaw paused, his ears held high and his whiskers twitching slightly as he thought for a moment about the possibility that his companion was no longer there. The weariness was gone, however, as the chain rustled and the familiar warm, dark brown eyes peered at him from within.

"October, you're back." His voice was gruff and deep - a rumbling bark that soothed Smokepaw's anxious heart. "You smell of squirrel."

He walked from the wooden den, his pelt swaying as his large paws hit the ground. The large canine stopped over Smokepaw and lowered his head, sniffing the young tom who purred in response and rubbed his head against his friends muzzle.

"I told you, it's Smokepaw. And I just got back from hunting for my clan."

The dog chuckled and laid down in a heap, his eyes sparkling with play. "And you brought none for me?"

Smokepaw batted the dogs nose with a paw. "Bear, you know I'm not allowed to do that!"

Bear laughed, his chest rumbling and his breath moving the leaves around Smokepaw's feet. Smokepaw smiled and moved in, curling up against the large dog's chin and throat, sighing in relief at the familiar warmth. They were quiet for some time, Smokepaw's eyes closed softly as he relished in the comfort, and Bear's eyes resting on the sky, watching as the sun slowly leaked into the mountains.

"When will I get to meet your new friends?"

Smokepaw's mouth slowly curled into a frown. "I can't tell them about you. . . they wouldn't understand."

Bear sighed softly and Smokepaw followed suit, resting his head on his friends jaw.

When Smokepaw was adopted and taken to this place, it was Bear who took him. The large brown dog taught him the laws of the land, how to hunt, and protected him. When strays would come to hurt him or steal from him, Smokepaw - who then went by October - knew to run to that wooden den, trusting that Bear would always be there to protect him. They were best friends, and to Smokepaw, Bear was an older brother. He saw nothing wrong with their bond - he still sees no flaw in it - but in time, the young tom came to understand the true difference between the two species. The other cats viewed Bear as a monster. They could not understand his words, and they always responded with either fear or hatred to him, some even attempting to attack the chained dog. When Smokepaw joined the clan and learned of the cats strength, and that they feared dogs as well, fear prickled in his hide for his friend. He determined that he would still visit the dog - he could never leave him forever - but he would keep him hidden from the other cats to protect him from them.

Eventually, the sun faded away and the sky darkened. Bear sighed softly and shifted, stirring Smokepaw. "The moon's about to rise, October."

Smokepaw lifted his head and frowned at the sky, wishing he had just a little bit longer. He turned to Bear and the two met eyes for a moment. Understanding his struggle, Bear made the decision for him and stood up.

"You should get back before they worry."

Smokepaw stood and nodded slowly, his eyes hazy. "I'll be back tomorrow, I promise."

Bear gave one of his signature grins - his over-sized mouth opening and his tongue falling out and hanging over his teeth. "Bring me a squirrel next time, okay?"

Smokepaw laughed and bumped his head against his brother's paw. "Maybe. I'll think about it."

Slowly, he pulled away from Bear and made his way back to the field, listening as the chain dragged along the ground while Bear entered his den. Smokepaw slipped into the field, crossing through the barrier and into the other world as he exited near the lake. He reentered the stream - this time plunging his whole body in it to remove the scent of Bear - and made his way back to his clan as the moon slowly rose in the sky.

Congrats!!
