Story: It was dark, way too dark for even someone like her; the encroaching blackness was unnerving, void of any light or sound. And if she was nervous, she could only imagine how the poor foal felt. Looking down, a tiny white form pressed into her side, the young mustang colt trying to hide his eyes to the unknown shadows around him. The mare gently leaned down and nuzzled him, blowing her breath through his scraggly forelock. He gave a tiny whinny in return, grateful for the mare's presence. The mare looked forward again, carefully traversing the path between the trees; she was scared, yes, but not scared for herself. She was scared for the little one beside her, who even in the pitch blackness of a moonlit night shone like a beacon for predators. They were almost out of the forest, almost...

A branch cracking nearby caught her attention and she froze, ears flickering desperately to find the source of the sound- and then she caught a scent: Wolves.

Howling suddenly filled the forest and echoed off the trees; the foal didn't even have time to rear or whinny before Warden was nudging him along, yelling "go" as quietly as she could. The two bolted for the light ahead, just barely distinguishable through the trees and against the clouded sky. His little white legs ran as best they could, Warden hot on his heels in an attempt to act like a living barrier. Warden could hear them gaining and she pinned her ears; one nipped her hind leg and she lashed out, striking the ravenous canine in the chest. One fell back to help his packmate, but the other three did not give up. Time to do something drastic. Right before the two DAM left the forest, Warden wheeled around and charged the opposite direction, directly into the wolves. The three beasts leapt on her, bit at her, tore at her skin, but she bucked and thrashed and bit them right back. She was a warrior, a Guardian, and they would not hurt her charge.

It was a long time before Warden finally stepped out of the forest's shadows. She was limping, cut and bleeding all over her roaned form from the wolves' attacks, but she had been victorious. One by one she'd injured each wolf and driven them off, away from the herdlands and back into the deep dark. The clouds had begun to break, allowing tiny slivers of moonlight to peek through and reflect off of her adopted son's coat. She smiled weakly, making it almost to him before she collapsed, exhausted. He ran over and quickly nuzzled himself into her legs, begging to be held and comforted as he tried to comfort her. Even despite her injuries, she cuddled the little one close and whispered little nothings to him until he fell asleep. She curled her body around him as best she could, cradling him, but her storm-clouded eyes never left the forest daring, someone to come. [500/600 words]

yes, but the original form must be unaltered (so no colored text, or borders, etc)

I’m judging based on the story and how well it ties in with the DAM so extras like art and such won’t add any extra chances. But they are welcome ~

Story: Sable had been born in a very hot desert, and a person named Diamond came to rescue her, as the desert was overly hot for a horse. Sable was taken to a stable out in a field with other horses and where it only gets decently warm in the summer. Though Sable liked being out of the hot desert, she did not adjust easily. Being the first DAM there, she felt lonely. But after a month, she had quickly adjusted and was friends with everyone.

Basically she can easily adjust to change quickly.
