What do they do to keep warm? [500 words OR 1 art piece]:
To Dominic, there's nothing quite as exciting as waking up on an autumn's morning and feeling the chill of approaching winter in the air. This had always been his favorite season; the world turned red and gold, leaves crunched beneath your feet, and the temperature became near perfect.
And when he woke to find things a little colder than usual, he had the perfect solution.
On went the comfy sweatpants, the Merino wool sweater, the thick socks that let him slide up and down the wood-floor hallway. And, of course, his favorite scarf. He thought of the outfit as a hug; a warm, comforting embrace to combat the autumn morning chill.
Then came the fun stuff.
Out they went into the kitchen to open up the blinds and let the pale sun shine in through the window and onto the counter. The fireplace in the living room, complete with knitted rug and worn leather armchair, was lit so that the house could warm up as well from the cozy flames.
Back to the kitchen they went. Out came the ingredients for the best breakfast on a day like this; apple and cinnamon pancakes. One of his favorites. The tantalizing smell of them cooking sent a thrill of excitement through him. What could he say? He was a bit of a foodie when it came to anything spiced.
As the pancakes lightly bubbled, he flipped them over before putting the kettle on and getting out a large mug. The first pancakes came out, and another few were put on. In the meantime, he got to work fixing himself a nice warm drink, with just a pinch of pumpkin spice. Okay, so maybe he liked to venture out into town for Starbucks now and then too. But there was nothing like making yourself a drink at home on a morning like this.
The second batch were cooked, and placed on the plate. All were topped with a generous amount of maple syrup, and his mug topped with a little twirl of whipped cream. Everything was placed on a tray, and carefully carried into the lounge. He manouvered his way backwards into the armchair, before plonking himself down and nestling back into the soft cushions. The tray wobbled, but nothing spilt.
So began his breakfast, and he savoured every bite. Near him, the fireplace crackled merrily, and the house itself seemed to let out a creaky sigh at the heat warming it's wooden bones. Outside, he could hear a few birds beginning to chirp. Inside, he was warm and content. Cooler or not, a morning like this was sure to be followed with a great day.
