Dorothy,

I’m sure that you may have forgotten me, as it has been such a long time since we last spoke. I do hope that you’re doing well. I wish I could have written to you in different circumstances, and had things been different I would not have had to track you down in order to write to you. I will try to make this short but I really do have so much to tell you.

Ever since I laid eyes upon you those many years ago my heartstrings have been pulled in your direction, my dear. I love how your eyes shone in the light, the soft smile that you made whenever you heard a joke and the way the corners of your eyes crinkled when you laughed a melodious laugh. We danced once, although you danced with many others, I think that my dance felt special. The way you looked at me with your soft blue eyes made me want to melt into your arms forever, I think about that dance a lot.

The day came when many realised that despite the passing of time you’d hardly aged a day. You were called a witch and so you ran away. I didn’t see you that day because I was collecting the finest roses to give to you, but of course you never received them...

I don’t totally understand the concept of immortality, being a lowly mortal, but I’m guessing it means that you’ll never take a lover. I want to let you know my feelings before I sign up to join the war to end all wars. When I return I do hope that I may be able to speak to you once again.

Just one more time, that would matter so much to me.
