    Name joyner (nicknamed joy)
    Gender male
    Collar? nope harness
    prompt Number of words: 734

      background
xxxjoyner, previously moose, was taken in by SCS from a kill shelter who was planning to put him down because of his wounds and no one wanted to adopt him. He was taken from an owner who kept him locked in a backyard on a chain that only reached around 7 feet. he was a pup when they first chained him up, as he grew the collar got tighter cutting around his neck. Catching joyner was pretty tough. He was aggressive, scared, and not very trusting of humans at first, but with a help of a few volunteers and some food they caught him in no time!
xxx back at the kill shelter, they has trouble with bathing him, and treating him for fleas because of his "aggressive" nature towards the untrusting humans. They left him in the cage and labeled him and aggressive dog which led to him not being adopted. A few months later, moose still wasnt adopted, and because of the lack of space in the shelter they were planning to put him down. Lucky SCS gave him a second chance and took him in. They renamed the blue chow chow, Joyner.
xxx It was time for Joyner to start rehab to get over his traumatic experience, but he still wasn't very trusting of people. Hopefully he wouldn't be much of a challenge!

      during Joyner's rehab
xxxJoyner doesn't mind ths presents of humans anymore, but he would much rather be around other dogs rather than people... but Joyner found a foster who came in to help with his rehab as soon as he was moved to scs! He was pretty trusting of his foster since he was around them for a decent amount of time. He never had a collar, so walking him was definitely difficult due to his curious nature. Joyner would always run off or get destracted by other dogs while on his walks. Because if this, his foster got him a collar even though they were very aware of his history. Just incase he didn't take to the collar, they also bought a no-pull harness.
xxxThe fosters attempted to put the collar around joyner's neck but started petting around his neck and scars first. He didn't mind the petting around his neck, but as soon as they clipped the collar his neck he started panicing. Joyner began whimpering and bitting at the collar. He wouldn't let anyone near him while the collar was on, even when they tried to remove it. whenever, his fosters got close he'd growl and bite. Not at them, but at the collar that was around his neck. Eventually, Joyner chewed the collar completely off, and finally let his foster family around him again. His fosters waited a few days before trying out the harness in him, just to give him time to cool down after trying out the collar.
xxx After a week past, they tried out the harness on him. Joyner wasn't completely sure about the harness, but it was away from his neck and his scars so he didn't mind it. He was able to go in walks without panicking or wandering away from his fosters so that was a good start, but they still wanted him to have a collar around his neck to get over his traumatic experience. So they tried out a bandana that wrapped loosely around his neck. Joyner didn't take well to the bandana. he wasn't panicking but he also didn't like it. Removing it was very simple so whenever he was uncomfortable with it on he was able to remove it at his own desires. Though, joyner never kept it on, it was a huge improvement from where he started.
xxx Months past and Joyner had gotten used to his own bandana. He was able to wear it without getting uncomfortable or having the desire to take it off. Even though joyner has a bandana, the fosters still kept the harness around because the harness kept the leash from pulling around his neck. He had got so much better about touching and petting around his neck, but he never got another collar since the incident. Joyner was finally ready for adoption, and he quickly found a home! His foster family decided to adopt him. Joyner got so much better about touching and petting around his neck, but he never got another collar since the incident.

Prompt: It took ages for Toast to accept his collar. Every time they tried putting one on he would bark and run away, terrified. Eventually his owner decided to just accept his dogs fear and so instead of working on getting him a collar, he worked on getting his trust. After months of trust exercises and many, many, treats Toast had full trust in his owner, he was basically glued to his side. At that point, his owner decided it was time to get him a collar, it had been too long without one and Toast’s loyal behavior meant he sometimes even broke out of the house to be with his owner. So slipping a leash around Toast’s neck they walked to the nearest pet store and picked one out. After returning home his owner very gently let him sniff and investigate the collar. It was soft and stretchy unlike the hard one embedded in his neck so long ago. His owner quickly slipped it around his neck and he yelped in surprise, running back and bumping into the table. He scratched at it fearfully for a moment before slowly realizing it wasn’t hurting him and that it was safe. That he was safe, and that his beloved human would have never hurt him, so he wore the collar with pride, showing off to the world this gift from his human.

Prompt: No one knows what happened before she was chained up or how she got chained up.
No one but herself. She's afraid of people now, and anything that has to do with things being around her neck.
She wishes she could tell her new owner what previously happened, but she can't.
Instead, she keeps it to herself. To carry that old life of hers on her back forever, until her last day.

Almost her whole life she was in danger. Living with a terrible owner, in a terrible living space, and being separated from her mother way too early in her life.
She started wearing a collar at the age of 4 months. She hated it. It was always put on way too tight and her owner never learned how to put it on correctly. It's a surprise she didn't suffocate to death.

At the age of 2 years, she had to be outside all the time because she got too big and always was always knocking things over.
She was always very playful which made somethings break and caused a lot of yelling and scolding.
After being outside she learned that it wasn't good for dogs to stay out so often. Especially since her owner left her outside in the rain and snow. She could never stay warm since she never had a doggy house or anything to protect her from the harsh conditions.
The pavement always got too hot for her paws during the summer and that's what the backyard was mostly made of.
which left burn scars on her poor sensitive paws.
Now, the part where she got chained up.
Her owner was tired of her running around and barking when she had fun. They hated it and didn't want her to bark anymore.
So they thought if they chained her up it would stop her barking. But it only made her bark more.
It was a tight collar and a chain around her neck for 5 months. The chain was short so she always had to be lying down, even then it would choke her.

When the SCS found her she was terrified. She didn't want to be touched, she didn't want to be harmed anymore.
They took their time with her and she took her time with them.
Once they got the collar off she was free. She felt better and could actually breathe normally.
The mark around her throat was bad and was bleeding from the collar growing in around her neck. If the SCS didn't come to help her the collar would be apart of her neck and make even more damage then it already did.

She hated anyone who touched her neck.
It hurt her a lot from the scar it left. She would growl or bark at anyone who tried to touch it.
And she bit a few people when they were taking off the previous collar.
She didn't get over this fear quickly.
It took months and months of people gaining her trust and making sure she was calm before going up for adoption.

It was hard, getting her to trust people again. They almost gave up and were close to putting her down, but they didn't.
They didn't lose hope and they took their time.
They trained her, fed her, played with her. She was learning and teaching herself.
They were finally ready to put her up for adoption and find her a great home after 5 months of training and gaining her trust.
They tried putting a collar on her but she wouldn't allow it. She hated the harsh feeling it gave and it hurt her neck even more than it did.
They had the idea to put on a bandana that was made out of soft material on her.
She wore a pink bandana. It was soft and made her feel safe. She felt warm and like nothing could harm her.

A girl named Max came in looking for a pup to adopt. She saw Bella and knew she was the right one.
She was nervous and scared because she didn't want to go to another harsh family. But she was ready to meet her new owner.
The girl with beautiful blue eyes had a soft smile that greeted her when they first met.
Bella immediately felt comfortable with the girl. She knew this was going to be the right home.
When she got to her new home she ran around discovering everything.
Rolled on the floor and couches. Went underneath the bed and tables. And even knocked over a few things but she never got yelled at, her new owner just laughed at her.
She loved the sound of her owner's laugh. She knew she was happy and that made her happy.
Her new owner held out a pink collar and she bolted underneath the table, afraid of it. she didn't want to relive another terror.
She made her way to her owner who proceeded to gently put on the pink collar. Bella hated it and she barked and yelped and scratched at the collar. Max took it off and placed it on the ground, Bella growled and barked at it so Max had to move it someplace where the dog couldn't see it. She proceeded to take out a bandana that had soft colours and a beautiful pattern. She softly placed it around Bella's neck.
Bella was okay with it. It was soft and cozy and didn't have the harsh feeling the collar gave. She allowed her owner to tie the thing around her neck. She looked beautiful with it. It stood out against her grey fur.

She loved the pink one the SCS gave her because it was her first, but this one was special.
It was given to her by her new mommy. Someone who actually loved her and who will take great care of.
It made her feel warm and safe, she felt loved for once.
She was glad she never gave up and continued fighting for her life.
She would've never met her new owner and get so many cuddles and kisses if she gave up.

Now, she is still afraid of collars.
She refuses to be anywhere near one and will freak out if she sees one so be careful.
But she will allow bandanas and her owner wants to try a necklace on her next.
But one step at a time for now.
