FAQ wrote:Q. Are animations allowed?
A. GIF animations are allowed as long as they're simple and do not feature various different scenes in one image.

Q. Do I need to color, line, and shade my art pieces? Do I need a background?
A. No, there's no necessary requirement to color, line, and shade the pieces that you do for this prompt. Likewise, backgrounds are not required either. We do allow black and white sketches, and doing 3 sketches will qualify as doing the minimum requirement.

Q. Can I do a mix of comics/animations/still images?
A. Yes, doing a mix of various mediums is certainly allowed. Just make sure that you follow the restrictions for each type of image and that you have no more than 6 images present in your form!

Q. What are the limitations for comics?
A. You may only have up to 350 words present in the entire comic. Please also make sure that each page of the comic is present in one file image.

Q. Can I include words on my images if they're not comics?
A. Yes, words may be present on the images if they're not comics. They still need to abide by the 350 words maximum, however.

Q. Can I include a short written explanation on my images?
A. Yes, however, they will still need to abide by the 350 words maximum. If you have a comic that features 350 words total, you may not include a short written explanation as the maximum limit has already been reached.

HAPPY REUNION

"Just relax! I promise we're almost there."

The sound of giggling was the only thing keeping Jill from freaking out as she was led through the forest with a blindfold covering her eyes. Palagia and Eve said it was a surprise and they were really counting on no one telling Jill what they had been planning for the past few months. Jack knew of course, but for once in his miserable life, he didn't feel like spoiling a good thing and kept the secret to himself. Despite the entire thing being a surprise, he still thought the whole blindfold thing was a little hokey, and could only roll his eyes with an irritated sigh as his mate called out for him to make sure he was still there.

Time was lost on Jill as she was led through the brush for what could have only been several minutes, but the excitement and anxiety bubbling within her made it feel as though it had been so much longer. Much to her relief, Palagia finally told her to stop while also holding her paws against her shoulders to keep her still. Jill's ears perked up and her eyes widened behind the double wrapped blindfold. Thanks to her incredible vision, she was able to see right through most things, so double wrapping was necessary. But no amount of double wrapping over her eyes was able to keep the sound of crashing waves from her eardrums.

"You took me to the beach!?" She exclaimed, weight shifting from one paw to the other in excitement. Ever since she was first found by Joseph Scott, she had absolutely adored the ocean. He had even been so kind as to build her a massive tank filled with saltwater since they weren't able to get out much in order to go to the beach. Excitement soon turned to a quiet despair; her ears lowered and the smile against her maw twisted into a sad frown at the memory. She had missed him terribly and blamed herself every waking moment for what had happened after they escaped the destruction of the Lab; he had been the closest thing to a father, and she would give anything to have that back.

Palagia and Eve sensed the drop in mood and without any further hesitation, they removed the blindfold from Jill's eyes. The sun was blinding, but there was a figure protecting her sensitive eyes from the far too bright rays. She squinted to get a better look at what was standing only a few feet in front of her, and then her jaw dropped.

A radioactive green monster with spikes coming out every which way from its body. The markings against its pelt resembled a skeleton, which to her, signified that it was dangerous and that she should stay away, but there was something about this monster. As terrifying as it was, it was also beautiful, and hypnotizing, and familiar.

"... I've never seen anything like it in my life," she caught herself saying aloud, "but I know you." As if she were in some sort of trance, Jill stepped forward, eyes no longer affected by the bright sun reflecting off of the white sand of the beach. Normally, she would have heaved a comfortable sigh as her paws hit the warm sand, but she was too transfixed; too focused on the beautiful monster in front of her.

"Oh, Jill..." The creature spoke, falling to its knees into the soft sand in order to get a better look at the viscet in front of him. "I thought I would never see you again. Even with these eyes, you're still just as amazing as I remember."

The voice coming from the monster shook the experiment to her core and she had to take back the step she took forward. The voice had her bounding backward, a thud in her heart, a knot in her throat, and a brain exploding with memories. For once in her life, she was glad to have heard his voice everyday. She was glad that it had been stuck in her head since the day he perished or she might not have recognized it as the same voice that fell from the monster's mouth.

Perhaps she should have been skeptical and wary, but once Jack nodded at her as she took a quick glance back at him, Jill knew it had to be true, and the excitement deep in her gut bubbled over into tears of happiness.

"But how?" It was a fair question, and one the massive viscet was very willing to answer, but first he wanted her to enjoy her time at the beach. He wanted her to swim around in the vast ocean before nightfall, since Palagia had explained they normally didn't leave their shelter within the forest in fear of Lucrecia finding them. This was a very rare opportunity, and after some convincing, she finally took it while he and Jack spoke under the shade of some trees, watching Jill jump and bound around in the ocean.

Once the sun began to disappear to welcome the moon, Jill was motioned back to shore where she gladly took her place next to her mate and the man she once thought of as a father. Palagia and Eve brought over the small cooler full of drinks and snacks before making a small camp fire in the sand surrounded by makeshift wood stump chairs for each viscet. With the fire aglow and keeping them all warm against the cool ocean breeze, the monstrous viscet released a shaky sigh before looking at Jill. As if the very sight of her alone rejuvenated him, he shook off the tired feeling of anxiety and began to explain:

"It is true," he spoke aloud, though the way in which he said it felt personal to Jill, "the terrifying creature you see is indeed the once human scientist, Doctor Joseph Scott."

Even though Jill made the conclusion herself earlier, hearing it still resulted in a quiet gasp. After shooting her a small smile in an attempt to comfort her, he continued,

"thanks to the absolutely unreal and ever changing science, my death wasn't enough to keep those monsters from using me still. They took my body and experimented on my brain. With the help of a viscet you all are very familiar with, they were able to revive me in a sense, and place my brain into a creature they had been working on for quite some time. The first successful one they've had. Apparently, that wasn't the first time they had tried, but I was the one who ended up making it out alive." He paused in an attempt to remember exactly what had happened, and how he ended up out of the Lab.

"I now understand your anger, Jack. I understand why you did what you did. Why you escaped in such a deadly fashion. Now that I've had to do the same, I owe you an apology for all of the times I doubted you and your will." Of course, Jack's reply didn't come in words, but merely a look of confusion laced with appreciation for only a short moment before he snorted and shook his head.

The viscet once known as Joseph understood though; he had known Jack long enough.

Without much thought, Jill lifted herself from the makeshift chair and walked toward the monstrous viscet. From where he was sitting, she was able to be snout to snout with him and really get a good look at what he had become. "Did she hurt you?" Gentle paws slid along the massive horns that protruded from his head and gleamed in the moonlight. Instead of answering, he gave her a look that said, 'do you really want the answer to that question?' A shoddy attempt at keeping the tears at bay again, Jill pursed her lips before collapsing into his lap, arms slinging around his neck and desperate paws clinging to the short feathers against his body.

"I missed you so much." She choked out against his shoulder, "please stay."

He had no other choice but to do as she asked with that weak little voice pleading at him in such a way. He nodded, and with gentle but muscular arms, held her close as he did when she was but a viscling, freshly hatched from her egg.

"I'm not going anywhere. Not again."

OH I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO BE KING

Telhamat had been waiting impatiently for his parents and siblings to hurry up. He didn't understand why his father made it into such a big deal; they were just going to see his grandfather after all. So what if he was the Hell King of Auwei; it really wasn't that big of a deal to him. Plus, according to his older (though smaller) siblings, the trek was long and rough, and Telhamat just had no interest in wasting his time with it. Of course, that wasn't his decision, and he had to deal with the fact that he'd be going whether he liked it or not.

"If we could get going any day now, that would be great." The young viscling spoke into the cave where the rest of them were all packing bags for the visclings and making sure they were all ready to go. Baphomet shot him a look that could scare even the most mighty of viscets; but not Telhamat. Fearless and confident, he only sneered back at his father and turned around to make his way back down to the trail that would paint their way to their destination.

After what seemed like another hour, the group was ready, to which Telhamat sighed dramatically with a drawn out, "fiiiinally!

The trip was uneventful and time passed easily for Telhamat as he imagined a life where he was King instead of his grandfather. He had never even met the guy; why was he supposed to be excited? Just because he was King? No, that's not what made a man. If he was worthy of Telhamat's favour, then maybe things would be different. But for now, he would keep his neutral stance on the entire situation. Perhaps there was some envy involved in how he felt all because Tyramet was King and Telhamat wasn't, but he shook that notion off with another scoff.

Envy was for the weak.

Once he shook himself from his deep thoughts, he took it upon himself to trip his siblings and cackle maniacally as they glared at him and ran forward to tell their parents. A reprimand came, but it didn't phase him in the slightest. It was only when they reached the portal to the lower plain that Telhamat started to behave; he wanted to make the best impression after all. Maybe show these other viscets what a real King looked like. So, once his parents walked through the portal, he followed suit with his head held high and bright green eyes looking down his snout. Despite being only a few feet tall and on all four legs, Telhamat felt as though he owned the entire realm at that point. He ignored the blistering cold air with ease, though he was incredibly thankful when a warmth surrounded them all instead.

Tyramet was near, and when he finally saw the viscet his father continually babbled about, he was disappointed to say the least. Like all grandfather's do, Tyramet leaned down to sweep up his precious grandchildren before patting Baphomet on the back with a hearty grin. He also made it a point to greet Kaori with only the warmest welcome he could provide. After rushing everyone into his kingdom, Telhamat did his best to stay as far away from his grandfather as possible. He felt betrayed, heartbroken, and angry; this wasn't how a King should be living. Where were all of his servants and his castles of gold? Where were the great beasts and land full of brilliant crops? Telhamat felt as though everything in his life was a massive lie. He would never blame himself for getting his own hopes up and expecting too much, no. It was everyone else's fault.

As the others caught up in one of Tyramet's halls, Telhamat decided to explore instead, 'this can't be all there is,' he thought to himself as he looked around the bleak empire. As silly as it was, he started to find it hard to catch his breath. The choking feeling of disappointment in the form of tears tried with all their might to break free, but he refused to cry over something so trivial.

No, he wouldn't cry. He would plot. He would plan and find a way to conquer this pathetic thing his grandfather had the gall to call a kingdom. While everyone else was laughing and having a great time on their little vacation, Telhamat continued to travel the building until he made his way outside and back into the frigid cold. Of course, thanks to his grandfather's spell, he couldn't feel the blistering cool, but he could only imagine how long he would last out there without it.

"How can you live like this?" Telhamat asked one of the viscets he assumed was a guard. He didn't answer, but his eyes followed the voice and to the ground where the viscling stood. "When I'm King, things are gonna change, you know that? There will be plentiful crops and land; not this pathetic wasteland of a kingdom. Who does he think he's fooling anyway?" Telhamat paused to look up at the viscet, "well, that was a dumb question. He's obviously fooling you and all the other idiots who call him King. What kind of King is that?"

Wordlessly, the much taller viscet grinned then. A diabolical and knowing grin that made Telhamat's heart flutter with excitement. "See, you understand what I'm talking about right?" Again, the viscet only grinned, no words falling from his maw, but inside, the viscling knew he had convinced another that his grandfather was nothing but a fraud, or at least he thought he had, and that was good enough for him.

"Telhamat?" He heard the voice of his mother calling for him, and he had to wonder just how long he had been out there. Judging by how tired they looked, he assumed it was hours, which didn't make much sense to him but he didn't question it. As usual, he didn't greet his mother with the same chipper greeting, only followed along with her without a peep. Their vacation started out pretty boring and annoying, at least to the viscling, but as his thoughts began to race more and more, he felt it was going to turn into quite the learning experience.

'When I'm King,' he thought to himself again as he toddled along next to his mother, 'things are gonna change. There won't be a Tyramet; only Telhamat. Besides, that sounds more more fitting for a King anyway.'

Quasar definitely didn't expect to be firing off one of her first prototype blasters.

Image

Akela spends some time manipulating hot obsidian.

Image

Oreo built her first snow-viscet - of course, in Wimborne Village, the climate is always too cold for snow to melt. Even in summer there will always be cocoa and scarves.

Image

Andromeda visited her galaxy family in the sky for a neat surprise...

Image

Quasar, Akela, Oreo, Sahaquiel, and Andromeda belong to me.
Evora and the egg - a planned child - belong to sschw. All viscets are being used with permission.
Last few images are sketches as I won't have time today to finish them.

Viscet #2555 - Storm Surge

Postby Mint Chip » Tue Jun 05, 2018 6:17 am

Image
Heading out from home, Zale waves bye to his mother as he headed for the docks.
He has a ferry to catch and some friends to meet up with for this vacation.

Image
Buckley was waiting on the docks for him. This trip had been planned for a while. The two convinced Jett to come along as their chaperone. He agreed reluctantly but looking at the boat now, he wishes he hadn't agreed to something so terrifying.

Image
The ferry ride for Zale and Buckley was nice. The wind in their fur and the sea air was very welcoming. Unfortunately, the ride for Jett wasn't as enjoyable. Unbeknownst to him, he actually got motion-sickness very easily. He was relieved when the ferry docked. While Zale and Buckley determined where to set up camp, Jett was really beginning to think this was a very bad idea when he stepped off the dock and nearly on a hermit crab. The crab was not amused, making that very apparent.

Image
Zale and Buckley went about enjoying themselves on the island. They set up camp, gathering necessities before settling in. Jett tried settling in too but it seemed like that wasn't a possibility for him. If it wasn't angry birds chasing him, then it was fish biting him. This wasn't at all what Buckley and Zale had envisioned for their trip. Sometimes the two would help him out, other times they'd just watch with a laugh or a sigh.

Image
After 2 weeks on the island, it was time for them to all board the ferry bound for home. Between the hectic couple weeks of mishaps and the seasickness, Jett didn't have the strength about him to leave the vessel. Zale hoisted him onto his shoulders as Buckley carried their things off the boat. Marilla was waiting for them on the docks, welcoming them back. They certainly would have quite the story for her about their summer vacation.

Dialogue:
Marilla: "Welcome home! Did you guys have fun?"

Buckley: "Oh yeah. Tons of fun."

Zale: "Mmhm, we should totally do it again. Right, Jett?"

Jett: "Uggghhhh..."

Decarus quickly learned that he had traveled to the wrong beach planet for his vacation.

Ze spent her summer time off observing the birth of new stars in a faraway nebula.

Delilah took the girls camping. Didn’t look like they appreciated it very much.

      Excerpt from Iago's travelouge:
Oh, what a beautiful day ahead of me. I have reached the last days of my travels and while I cannot wait to embrace my dear mother's country again, my heart still aches to faraway lands.
Well... you know what? Screw it. Nobody is going to read this thing anyway, so I will just gonna stop with all this ... nonsense. Pretending to be has made me tired and right now, after I have almost been murdered by some sort of sea monster, I don't give fish' fin anyway. Honestly, I just wanted to travel to the US and sell some of my goods there - and without getting drowned on my way.
I am mad, but perhaps writing it down with clear my head a bit. Well then, I shall begin:
It has happened only currently, two days have passed since then, to be precise. Normally, I try to write an entry into my travelouge every day, but this time I had to recover for a while, before I was able to snag a pen again. I have no idea, what exactly this thing was, but it was horrible. It seemed to be a Viscet, just like me, but then, on the other hand, it was a creature of the sea. It was certainly a monster, even I was frightened by the sight of it. If you allow me to be poetic - my mother would probably say, that this monster was just the embodiment of all the evil that is hosted by my soul. Perhaps she would have been right, but if you care about my opinion: this is just quite a hell lot of babble. I certainly am not a monster, anyway. Sure, my whole life I have been deceiving others and have them made believe, that I am not what I am. But I am not that bad, you know? I don't murder people. Normally.
This time, however, it had been neccessary. But that is a story for later; for now, I rather want to talk about the sea and the lands I travelled this time.
Florida has certainly a beautiful coast - although I am unable to compare its beauty with the one of China or Italy or India or Peru. I have been staying there for just something over a week - mostly for business. I sold alot of the trinkets that I was able to buy in India and Pakistan, I visited a Native American tribe and bought some stuff off them. They make beautiful things and sell them for quite cheap - although I have to admit, that I almost feel sorry for them. America used to be their lands once, you know? Now they have been pushed aside, all their traditions and values long forgotten. These things have also happened to my home of heart, Peru. But -- what shall I say? These things tend to happen.
But, let's not waste time with this nonsense anymore. I only can say, that I started to grow tired of the US and then decided to head towards Hawaii. I know, it is a US state too, now, but the flair and the life in general is so vastly different, especially on the coast. And there it was, where I encountered that monster. Well -- where we were encountering that monster. I honestly dislike travelling with others, they just tend to get on my nerves, ask me questions that I don't want to answer and try to talk to me, when I certainly do not want to talk. But it is cheaper and I do not own any boats myself anyway, therefore it is impossible for me to travel on my own. It might be a thorn in my side, but it has advantages, too. I can relieve them of their money, for one thing. No, no, I am not a thief, but especially when I am travelling alongside tourist, you cannot imagine how willing they are to buy even the smallest trinkets off my hands. I claim to own valuable jewellery and figurines from faraway lands and they practically eat off my hands. Sometimes it is true - if I happen to find liking in someone, I might even sell them the actual valuable stuff. However, most tourists are far from me liking them and instead of being true to them, I rather sell them the cheap and fake stuff - for quite a lot of money any way. I have to make a living too, after all.
Well, I am beating around the bush again. However, as we were getting closer to the coast of Hawaii, someone or something tried to capsize our boat - at least, that was, what it felt like. While the sea was completely calm, the boat started to go up and down and huge waves of saltwalter splashed in our face.
We were not many, only a handful of Viscets, in a rather small fishing boat. All of the other Viscets were experienced fishers, but even they semmed to be frightened - yes, this included me, but I have never before experienced something trying to keel over a boat - even I have to admit that.
The fishermen had no idea, what it was. A dolphin or a shark, or even a whale, would not do this. Neither would a squid. All of this I knew, of course, as I am truly not stupid. Perhaps it was just a rock or a small coral reef - certainly sounded more likely to my ears. But instead, the fishermen started to talk about a legend, that they have heard. A legend, about a monster, that once used to be Viscet but got turned into something terrible - a cannibal of the seas, that would lure people into the water or try to capsize their boats and ships - as in our case - so it could drown them and feast itself on the corpses.
Although I certainly do like legends and fairytales, I did not believe in this one for a moment. I should have, but in my defense, it sounded more like a story that was supposed to entertain, or frighten stupid and carless tourists, than like something, that actually could be true. A Viscet turned into a monster of the seas? Come on! We are land dwellers. Sure, there are some mutations, that make us able to stay in the water for a long time and there are some, like me, who are just drawn to water. But still, it sounded stupid to me. Why? I don't know - I guess I still do not believe in fairytales. Even now, looking back on all this, I would rather claim, that it was rather just a normal Viscet, that went berserk, instead of an actual monster. We all are monsters enough, no need to wake the ones in the fairytales.
As already mentioned - I did not believe in the horrible tale, that the fishermen had been talking about. Only just as long, though, as I could feel save. But when our boat suddenly turned and we were faced with the deep sea, I started wondering. Something certainly was after us - and with the force, that it had turned out boat upside down, it certainly was not harmless. But a monster? Perhaps this was all a prank, I thought. Only for a second, however, before I was confronted with the truth.
And when I saw the beast - eyes wild, teeth grinted, wearing the bones of what looked like a whale - I had to admit, that we might be doomed. But my life, I tell you, is precious to me, and I was ready to fight for it. Just as the fishermen did, I tried to crawl back onto the boat - anything, to get away from that monster, that was circling us and seemed to consider, which one of us to kill first. I just hoped, that it would not be me - any of the others, just not me. Call me selfish all you want, but I am sure, that any of you would have done the same. I did not know any of these fishermen, how could I even consider giving my life for them?
At this point, someone, who might know my true self, would argue, that I deserved this, and that I would deserve to die and to be eaten by a hideous monster, but I would like to tell you otherwise. The fools, who fall for my deception, those surely deserve to die a death as stupid as themselves, but I am a humble merchant, full of knowledge and wisdom - the world is in need of more like me, you cannot kill us off. That monster, however, did not seem to know about me, or it did not care. Or, perhaps, it was even the thirst for knowledge, that drew it right towards me, instead to the fishermen, who were even trying to save each other's lives and with that, they accepted their certain death. Morons. But I had none of this - I would certainly not die today!
So I did what everyone else in my place would have done: I grabbed one of them, one of the fishermen, and dragged him down from the upside-down boat into the water. Right infront of the beast, which was snarling and drolling and happily grabbed its prey, that at least did not happen to be me.
I did not care for the looks of shock and horror on the others' faces, all I cared about was to save my own skin. So I began to swim, until swim I could no more. The warm ocean embraced me, I felt a soft breeze on my skin and saw the beauty of the ocean beneath my feet. I was tired, but at least I was alive. And soon I was found by Hawaiians, who got me out of the water and took me in.
I have been staying in their village for two days now, and they certainly have treated me very kindly. If I could, I would have even left them some small gifts, but sadly, everything I owned, had been going down with that boat. All I had on myself was a small backpack, inside only my book and a few other things, that had no worth to anyone but me.
I have told them the story of what had happened out there, on the sea, and they have nodded and told me, that they knew about the creature. Of course, I had not told them, that I had to sacrifice someone else, in order to save me, because these people did not look like they would understand. But it doesn't really matter.
I guess I will stay here for some more days. Gain my strength back and, of course, try to get the money back, that the beast of the seas had stolen from me. I might help others to get rid of their money, but I do not like it at all, when someone takes from me. First, I have to get my money back. Then, I will try to get a boat and sail back to Peru.
      Back home.
