Relationship/How did they get separated:
Awkward and uncertain, the two calico kits stumbled out of the den, into the soft sun of late evening. They spent several minutes just sniffing at the grass, before finally decided to explore further.
Blaze tried to run a bit, but her too-big paws tripped her up and she fell on her face.
Flicker giggled at her sister's accident and received a weak thwap from Blaze's oversized paw. She fell with a squeak.
For a second they stared at each other, both about to cry. Then Blaze snickered and they both began laughing.
"What are you girls doing?" The soft rumble of their father's voice found them from the dark of the burrow.
They continued giggling as he walked out into the sunlight.
"Are you fighting?" He asked with mock sterness and in unison they shook their heads.
"Good," he grinned, leaning down and nuzzling Flicker's cheek "I don't want my girls fighting."
Jealous for her sister's attention Blaze pounced on Flicker and tried to climb up on her father's head.
"You little-" his words were cut off by his daughter's tail. With a roll of his eyes, he sank to his belly and let the kits wrestle with him.
For several mintues they playfought, until the girls were tired and they flopped over.
Their father looked over and realized that they'd strayed from the safety of the burrow.
Suddenly feeling apprehensive, he stood and was about to shepherd the girls back to their den, when something large came hurtling out of the long grass and clamped onto his face.
Blaze and Flicker screamed as their father collapsed beneath the fox and blood sprayed the ground.
Too terrified to run, they watched in stunned horror as the tom weakly attempted to throw the fox off his back.
"Run!" He wheezed, his gaze locking on the kits "Run!!"
It was all Blaze needed and she turned, her tiny legs tearing wildly at the grass and carrying her far from the burrow.
"Daddy!" Flicker hesitated, tears running down her fur.
"Go!" His voice was cut off by a sudden choking sound and he disappeared in a cloud of fur and dust.
She obeyed, sobbing, and didn't see the dust settle around a still figure, the fox triumphant.
Blaze collapsed in a pile of dried moss. It was dark and the young kit was totally exhausted.
She looked around her.
The ground was rocky and unfamiliar.
She sniffled and curled up.
Her dad would come find her.
When Flicker stopped running the sky above her was sliced through with trees and the ground was thick with leaflitter. Her paws ached and her throat was sore from sobbing.
She fell down against the crook of a tree, sniffling.
It was cold, she was alone.
No one was coming to find her.
