Howard ran his fingers through his mane, the water from his dampened paws transferring from his pawpads onto the fine quills on his head. Ordinarily he would have cupped his hands under the faucet and thrown the water onto his face, but as a guest... he didn't want to ware out his welcome sooner by leaving some sort of a mess. His eyes met his reflection's, and he wondered why he hadn't insisted on staying at a hotel. Nonsense! You're family! Oren had insisted. For as welcoming as his invitation- or rather insistence had been, the two viscets who lived with him's eyes told him otherwise. Rick didn't seem all too uncomfortable with him and he had seen him a handful of times before, but appearances could be deceiving. Jacklyn on the other hand, he'd only ever met... what? Once? Besides that she'd been quiet the evening before, listening to him yammer on and on about himself without much of a word. She seems cold, distant, and very much like she wanted to be elsewhere. He pulled at his lower eyelids, frustrated with how the previous night had gone. For a child she was rather hard to read.
He let out a heavy sigh, maybe he was just overthinking things. Oren was happy to see him or at least had been. Today might be a different story... as grateful as Oren had been when Howl insisted on paying for the meal, maybe offering to let him stay at their house had been a something he immediately regretted doing. Like he'd backed himself into a corner by offering somehow and couldn't think of a way out without looking like a jerk. If that was the case then how was he supposed to get out of staying? He couldn't just leave and get a hotel while he waited for the previous owners of the flat to vacate and for his stuff to show up. It was bad enough he had to leave a few weeks sooner than he'd planed on leaving his apartment, now this?
"Fiddlesticks" He mumbled under his breath. He'd really wanted to make a good impression on Oren and his kids since he was going to be living near them. He shook his head slightly. No, there was still time for him to. He'd already been generous by paying for their meal, socialable, and done what he could to show at least some what of an interest in their lives-even if he'd gotten off topic and talked about himself for twenty (ok maybe forty-five) minuets straight. He'd asked and been successful with striking up a conversation with Roderick, asked a bit about Jackie, and got to catch up with his second-maybe third or fourth cousin. What else could he have done to make a better impression? "I did all I could." He told himself, his expression perking up. "Even if they do regret inviting me, they won't for long." He said, his heart beating with faint determination. (500/500)
