It's actually about Vishnu and his snake, who are caught in the deadly tornado that hits their town.
Oh wow, thanks so much for the gift art and buffing up the story! I honestly did not expect any of that! I'm very grateful

Vishnu sighed softly, looking around his room and feeling a bit empty. He sat down on his straw bed, running his paws through his mane as he realized how lonely he felt. He put his paws firmly on his knees as he made up his mind.
"That's it. I'm tired of being lonely in this den! It's about time I got a roommate." He announced to the empty room.
Though he was a bit too flustered to admit that by roommate he meant more along the lines of a pet. He wasn't very interested in fluffy creatures, so he made up his mind he wanted a snake. He laid back on his bed as he thought of which he'd get. Truth be told he really wanted a king cobra but he knew he couldn't get one of those. Nobody would dare bother him or get too close again if he got a king cobra but it was probably against the law or at least the law of this town anyway. Instead, he got recommended a corn snake which was supposed to be good beginner snakes according to the guide. He had studied up a bit on snakes to ensure he was prepared for getting his snake. Vishnu had to admit the idea of getting one made him a little nervous but he had made up his mind.
---------------
Now that Vishnu's mind was made up he got up and made his way to the pet store. He grabbed only a couple things before bolting from his home, making his way to the pet store that wasn't far from his home. The viscet paused only a moment outside of the pet store, he nodded to himself certain he was ready before stepping inside.
"Well hello and welcome to the pet store!" An employee said happily as they welcomed the viscet. "Anything specific I can help you with today?"
"Actually, yeah! I'm looking for a corn snake, do you have any?" Vishnu asked hopefully.
The employee nodded happily, "We do, actually. A lot of them too, follow after me." They said as they motioned the viscet to follow. "A lot of folks don't seem to fond of them, unfortunately. Probably because they're more interested in the typical pets like puppies, kittens and such." The employee explained. They led Vishnu back to the reptile section, stopping to show Vishnu all of the selection they had in corn snakes.
There was certainly a lot of selection but one snake, in particular, caught his eye. He didn't want to be too hasty though, he wanted to be certain before he picked just any snake.
The employee smiled some as they noticed the viscet's interest in the snake. "We call that one Gina. She's a female snake who really loves attention. She's sort of like a dog in a snake's body. Definitely, the type who likes fun but she's also pretty smart too."
"What about these over here?" Vishnu asked curiously.
"Oh well this one is Ben, he's not a very active snake. He likes to spend most of his time sleeping." The employee pointed to the next one, "And then there's Jinx, who really acts more like a cat. Sort of lazy and sometimes can be mean." The employee paused to go over a couple more too, "And then there's Justin who's pretty similar to Ben." They continued to list off a couple more for a moment before looking back to Vishnu and waiting for him to decide which he preferred.
Vishnu smiled, "They're all wonderful." He now had to make his decision, he studied all of the snakes. He wanted to make sure he got the perfect one for him. He tapped his foot as he thought, looking them all over. Ben would probably have matched his personality the best but he did love Gina. There was just something about that snake that caught his eyes from the beginning and he just couldn't get past that. He looked back to the employee, he'd made his decision.
"I'll take Gina," Vishnu said at last.

After Vishnu had finished all the paperwork and everything required for Gina to be his, he thanked the employee before leaving for home. He smiled at his new friend who was resting on his shoulders. Once he stepped inside his home, he looked to Gina again, "Welcome to your new home, roommate." He said with a grin. He looked around a moment before remembering he had research still to do, "Well I guess I'd better go and do my natural disaster research."He had started the research at the beginning of March but had never wanted to do it after that. He took a seat at his desk, beginning his research again. He side glanced at Gina who was looking at him in a confused manner.
"Is something wrong, Gina?" He asked, twitching his ears curiously. He watched Gina shift uneasily to look out the window. He shifted a little to look but it was sunny outside, barely even a trace of clouds. It was a bit windy out today but nothing to cause alarm. He looked back to her confused, "It's just the wind." He said, watching Gina as she looked back to him and then slithered down onto his desk and laid down.
"Okay," Vishnu was a little confused by her still but he shrugged and then went back to his research. "Well anyway, back to tornado research." He picked up his remote and turned on the tv to have some background noise to distract from the wind whipping against the window. He was just listening to the new, nothing really special just some random stuff news on. He pulled up a couple web pages as he read through an article.
"F-5 tornadoes are the most dangerous." He looked to Gina. "take note of that, Gina," he said very seriously. He stifled a chuckle at the snake's confusion before smiling, "Just kidding!"
He watched the snake appear to almost frown as she glared at him as if to say "not funny".
"Oh lighten up, Gina," Vishnu said lightheartedly before continuing his research. He read through several paragraphs quietly before a loud noise made by the TV startled him. He jumped as the emergency alert system sounded over the TV and a warning was issued.
"The National Weather Service in Spells has issued a tornado warning for the countries of Science, Spelll, and Scelli."
Vishnu gulped as his county was announced. His body tensed as the wind picked up, the beautiful sunny sky was now turning to gray as the clouds blew quickly. The outside was quickly turning into something like that of a horror movie scene. It was growing darker and quickly. He stood quickly grabbing his tornado kit and bolted for the underground shelter. The emergency sirens sounding throughout the town.
---------------
It wasn't until Vishnu was in the shelter that he realized he'd forgotten something. He felt panic welling up inside him as he realized that Gina wasn't on his shoulder. The looked back up, the outside was growing increasingly darker. His heart skipped a beat, it was dangerous to go back up even deadly if things turned for the worst too quickly. His eyes misted a bit as he determined he had to go back up for her even if it was scary. Luckily for both of them, Gina had managed to slither her way towards the shelter so Vishnu was able to scoop her up more quickly before carrying them both back down into the underground shelter.
Once they were both settled down in the shelter, he began to take out the only things he had- a battery-powered radio, a flashlight, a llama plushie, some food, and water. He looked to Gina, worried she'd be upset but instead she looked more relieved than anything. They had both been lucky, blessed by the heavens. In moments like this, seconds matters. They both looked at each other, scared but both alive. He laid down, Gina shifting to still lay on him. They both breathed, exhaling in some relief as they waited out the storm. They were going to be fine but Vishnu was worried about his county and the other countries that would be affected by this. He wondered and hoped they would be okay.
The storm was a nasty one, the radio keeping them updated on where it had hit and where it was heading. Science had already been hit and it was working its way quickly to Spelll. His home was in the path of the tornado according to the radio's predicted path. In a matter of moments, their home above was destroyed and all that Vishnu could do was cry.
---------------
Gina watched Vishnu sympathetically. The snake was also sad, she could sense the storm was taking other lives too. The pet store, after all, had been on the same path as their home had been. The experience was scary but it taught Vishnu something important. It taught him to be smarter and that it's always good to be prepared but it mostly taught him that he needed to think of others too. That he couldn't react foolishly and rashly to a situation. He was so thankful to have Gina especially after seeing the ruins of their home.
Now that the storm had long since passed he went to check on the town but there was nothing left. The tornado had claimed it all, destroying many homes and establishments. He tried not to cry but the sight itself was too much. It had been the scariest experience of his life but even though nothing of the town remained, they still had each other. At least neither of them were alone.
---------------
There was great sadness amongst the town after the horrible storm. Still, there were small silver-linings here and there. The employee who had helped Vishnu pick out Gina was okay and had managed to save many of the animals from the pet store. Most of the other snakes all seemed well but the storm had left them a bit shaken up still. The survivors of the town took time to grieve their losses but they all knew they had to try to press on. It would take a while to rebuild and recover from all of this. Vishnu and Gina returned their den. There was rubble everywhere, rebuilding would take a while. This certainly wasn't going to be an easy task. The town would need to rebuild its businesses and homes. The job was big and costly but it was what would need to be done. The neighboring towns and counties suffered similarly and in some places worse. It certainly wasn't a pretty sight. After such a disaster the ones that remained banded together to help each other rebuild and start over. Even if all that happened, at least they still had each other.
