✿ story ; escape into the woods.indentthe viscet ran through the forest, not caring if the branches tangled themselves in her silken hair or got caught in her fur. she simply wrenched out the twigs, and resumed running. the moon shone over the treetops, partly covered by the leafy branches of the trees, almost obscured by the clouds nearby. however, it was enough to provide light for the running viscet, and it guided her throughout the forest. however, her efforts were in naught, as the kingdom's forces quickly caught up to the fleeing viscet.
indent"in the name of this kingdom, we command you to cease your futile efforts!" a cloaked viscet yelled, as other cloaked figures revealed themselves from within the trees, effectively cutting off any routes for the previously-running viscet. "hanako, our king warned you that pursuing escape will lead to greater consequences. you have tested his patience much, and for that, you will be punished. it doesn't matter if you're a powerful spellsinger, or if you're one of the only spellsingers left in the world. there will always be more that will prove to be strong allies with our king."
indenthanako swallowed back a lump that had formed in her throat at the thought of going back to the stifling castle, except this time, she would be thrown in the dungeons rather than shown to one of the guest rooms. she hated that place. during her years of travel, the kingdom had always been a pleasant place to stop by, by after the current king ascended the throne, the kingdom had been wracked by corruption and piracy. hanako no longer considered it to be her second home. "over my dead body! i've seen everything that i've needed to see; this kingdom will no longer have my support, so long the king is still alive and breathing."
indentone of the cloaked figures paused, as though taking pity on hanako's fruitless efforts, but any compassion that they might have had on the pink viscet instantly vanished. "you're making everything more difficult than it should be, hana-cchi. the king just needs to borrow your power. one song is all it will take, since you're so strong."
indenthanako felt the jolt of magical power at her paws, and she closed her eyes and let more magical power manifest. "i said no! i will never lend my power to him! i'd rather die than let him use my magic..."
indenthanako's sudden outburst, combined with the lingering magic, was strong enough to throw back many of the cloaked figures. immediately after the spell was released, she took off again, running and zigzagging her way through the trees once again. she heard the hollers, muffled orders that resembled something like "get her! don't let her escape!", but hanako wasn't about to let herself get caught again. concealing herself behind a large, leafy shrub, hanako held out her paws and summoned some more energy. escaping the king's guards would be difficult, but hanako had escaped from stronger foes. this should be no issue.
indent"... born in a place that reeks of gasoline, we're gated off from a world we've never seen... i hear that on the other side, everything is greener..." hanako sung softly, spinning the thin fibers of magic into stronger bonds, and she enveloped herself in the shimmering bonds of magic. magic gave off light, and she tried to conceal herself further into the shrub. "... ahh, the two of us back then; we used to dream so much! we believed that one day, we could fly above this cage and leave this world beneath-"
indenthanako broke off suddenly from her song, clutching her tail and covering the ornament on her tail to prevent it from glowing. she let out a cough and hunched her shoulders, moving deeper into the shrub. the primitive spell that she had used earlier had taken up more of her magic than hanako had imagined, and after her failed attempt to escape, she was in no shape to sing her way out of the forest. she leaned against the shrub, hoping to regain as much of her lost energy as possible.
indentas hanako undid her braids and intricate hairdo, she jerked her head around as she heard a sudden 'snap' from the twigs that lay on the ground nearby. she heard murmured voices, and hanako readied some small energy bolts in the middle of her paws, despite feeling utterly spent from breaking out of the castle, running, casting her primitive spell, and attempting to cast a spell through singing. it would be a quick fight; if hanako's foe was also a spellcaster, then it would easy for them to quickly apprehend hanako. no one ever sent soldiers to catch spellsingers; only spellcasters had the power to deal any sort of damage to spellsingers. while hanako would be able to hold her own under normal circumstances, she had little power left.
indent"hanako, is that you? come on, i'm here to bail you out," a voice whispered, as footsteps stopped in front of the shrub. the female viscet let out a haggard breath - who was this viscet to claimed to bail her out? is the viscet a friend, or a foe pretending to be a friend? hanako let out an audible sigh, before opening her mouth to speak.
indent"yin...? i'm not dreaming, am i?" hanako questioned, squinting and hardly daring to believe her ears. at first, the voice seemed like any other voice. however, the voice seemed all too familiar, and the slight drawl in the whisper was akin to the way one of her acquaintances would speak, and hanako could just hear the smirk in the other viscet's voice.
indent"right on the money, hanako, my dear. i'll lend you my magic power as well, so get out of that bush." eyes glittering, the other viscet reached into the bush and pulled hanako out. hanako smiled faintly, as she dipped her head towards the other viscet.
indent"thank you, yin. now, let's see where i left off on that song..."

✿ extra one ; personality.indenthanako is a very agreeable viscet, who strives to do her best in all activities that she may partake in. while many viscets turn their heads toward hanako because of her physical strength, her mental state is also strong, and it is difficult to convince the cherry blossom patterned viscet to do anything without good logic and reasoning. she is good at ignoring insults, and such acts of pettiness aren't enough to bring hanako down. she is able to think quickly on her feet, which gets her out of sticky situations, something that hanako is no stranger to.
indentalthough being agreeable is a good thing, hanako lets too many viscets walk over her like trash due to her tendencies to just ignore insults and not do anything about them. this ends up creating more issues for hanako, and although she is mild tempered, when she is enraged, she expresses her anger very explosively, in a literal sense. while hanako is mainly a spellsinger, she is proficient at primitive spells, where one is able to attack with large amounts of powers by using few words. when hanako is angered, one can certainly expect to see blasts of fire and various explosions near the cherry blossom patterned viscet.
indentdue to hanako's mild temper, it would be difficult to bring her to that point of explosiveness. added on with her tendencies to stay reserved, it would take a lot to truly make hanako angry, but to the pink viscet, it seems like there are a few individuals who exist just to annoy her (like yin). as amiable as hanako is, some viscets are surprised to find how reserved she can be. hanako has her own fair share of secrets, and with the responsibilities that come with being a spellsinger, it is a common fact that hanako can be pleasant and share sweet words with acquaintances and strangers, but she will not fill the gap with familiarity unless the other viscet does it first.
indentif one ever needs to get on hanako's good side very quickly, their best bet is to send her lots of flowers. hanako draws her power from plants and beings of nature, and it always makes her happy to receive plants, especially those of her namesake. like the cherry blossom, hanako's mood can bloom and then wilt very quickly, so sending her flowers is definitely a good idea.

✿ extra two ; profession.indentto be a spellsinger, one must have the innate ability for magic, and the sense for singing. it's not something that happens overnight, and most of the times, spellsingers are born with their natural affinity with magic and their strong singing voices. because spellsingers have magic within them, magic comes easily to them and they are considered to be powerful mages. this is all true for hanako, who is a strong spellsinger, which makes her a force to be reckoned with during a duel.
indentin hanako's case, her affinity with magic was also connected with a bond with nature. for this reason, hanako typically uses her power as a spellsinger to perform purification rites, where nature has been polluted by the means of viscets. her role takes her across various kingdoms to protect the wildlife and ensure that flowers will continue to bloom beautifully for years on the end, but because spellsingers are so powerful, many kingdoms reach out to hanako and request that she join their army. for a kingdom to have a spellsinger amongst their ranks is a sign of power, and although some spellsingers appreciate the shelter and the safety provided to them by kingdoms, hanako is comfortable and content with her current life. she considers castles and cities to be stifling, and the only place where she truly feels at home is within nature.
indentof course, due to hanako's profession and the fact that she often turns down hospitality from various kingdoms, the cherry blossom patterned viscet has many enemies. it is possible to take the power of a spellsinger against their will, and because they're so rare and so powerful, many kings and queens will gladly pay the repercussions of forcefully taking a spellsinger's power. such repercussions include living sacrifices for the rituals and making contracts with demons, and while most monarchs avoid making contracts with demons as much as possible, there's nothing stopping them from sacrificing several villagers to temporarily obtaining a spellsinger's abilities.
indentwhile hanako is generally on the run, she often befriends common people and certain nobles who are willing to help her get out of those sticky situations. even though spellsingers have great power, they are not able to do everything alone, and hanako is of no exception. her network of connections extends greatly because it is advantageous to hanako, and so do the networks of other spellsingers, with similar reasonings.

✿ extra three ; prompt - eye contact.indentit was a spur-of-the-moment sort of thing. when he passed by, hanako instinctively turned around, vying for another look at the viscet who had just passed by her. she wasn't the only one who had turned around.
indentthe other viscet had paused and turned around as well, and for a moment, their eyes locked together. however, hanako averted her eyes, slightly embarrassed at being caught staring. as she stared at the ground, she heard footsteps drawing closer. when the spellsinger looked up again, the viscet with stars in his fur was standing right in front of her. neither of them said anything at first, and hanako extended a tentative paw forward when she felt that the silence had gone on for too long.
indent"pleased to make your acquaintance. i'm hanako, and i'm a traveler. i'm new to these parts, so i apologize if i did anything to offend you," hanako said, straightening her back slightly and staring back into the other viscet's eyes. the male viscet smirked, before taking a few steps back and dipping his head in acknowledgement of hanako's words.
indent"well, that's a name that i've heard quite often. are you sure you're just a traveler? i'm not an idiot, you know; waves of magical energy are just pooling off of you, and i'm not like the other fools who'd wave you by without a second thought," the male viscet commented, as hanako stiffened. her eyes grew steely, and her amiable smile curved downwards into a frown. the male viscet paused, as though backtracking, before waving both paws in front of him. "now, now, don't get me wrong, i totally understand why a viscet of your reputation would want to conceal her identity. but really, a young lady shouldn't go around telling such lies."
indenthanako's pink fur bristled indignantly, as she balled her paws into fists. "who the hell are you, and why do you know so much about me? it's almost like you're a mage from one of the neighbouring kingdoms, sent by your poor excuse of a monarch."
indent"woah, calm down there, spellsinger! getting too angry will create lines on your otherwise pretty face. but if you must know, i'm simply a ghost who's seen a lot as i wander throughout the kingdoms. i'm pleased to make your acquaintance as well, honestly." his smirk grew wider, and grabbed hold of hanako's paw. "my name is yin."

✿ extra four ; prompt - forest fire.indentthe acrid smell of burnt wood hung in the air, making her eyes water as she stumbled through the leafy paths. hanako gasped for air, grasping for the side of the tree to support her weakening body. no one had seen the forest fire coming. hanako couldn't have predicted for the forest to suddenly catch fire, just like that. hanako had made it her goal to purify the nature where viscets have polluted it, so why was she running away from the flaming trees?
indentturning around on her heels sharply, hanako faced the growing blaze with a serene look on her face as she clasped her paws together tightly. she took a deep breath, nearly choking on the thick smoke, as she closed her eyes and spread her arms out. the burning wildlife would hurt hanako's magical capabilities, but if she couldn't rescue the forest, then who could?
indent"... admist the rain that won't stop pouring down, i saw your frail form crumble slowly to the ground..." slowly, hanako allowed her voice to project over the crackling of burning wood, and as she continued to sing, dark clouds started to gather in the sky. even as the rain started to rush down and quench the fire, hanako wouldn't stop singing until she was satisfied that all of the forest fire had been extinguished. as steam and smoke continued to rise, hanako's voice cracked on a note, and she fell against the tree that she had been leaning on. the moment the song stopped, the rain ceased, but it was alright, for the fire had been quenched.
indenthanako was utterly spent. she had spent the day purifying areas within the forest, and although she dealt with the forest fire, the female viscet knew that she would have to return sometime tomorrow to clean up the forest with her spellsinging magic and purify it once more from the lingering ashes. "a-ah... i'm so tired..." with that, hanako curled into a ball, trying to protect herself from the drops of water that dropped from the leaves above. the ground was wet, but the smell of smoke was still there. it made hanako sick to think that someone would be so willing to burn down a forest, even at the expense of the lives of the viscets who were touring it.
indent"... i'll... catch the perpetrator to tried to burn down this forest, i swear..."

✿ extra five ; prompt - distant memories.indentthe skies were dark when i finally came to. i was standing on top of a mountain of bodies, and i felt a splitting pain in my head. my paws were clean, but my mountain of corpses was surrounded by a deep, scarlet pool of blood. i jump off the top of my mountain gracefully, and as i dust off my cloak, a soldier reaches out to me. "hanako, you were so cool out there! with your help, our kingdom would surely win every single battle!"
indenti nodded and was about to wave off the soldier when i realized that someone was missing. someone crucial to this army and important to me was missing. "soldier. where is your commander? i haven't seen him at all during this battle."
indentthe soldier halted in his movements, and though he tried to hide it, conflict and uncertainty were clear as day in his eyes. i began thinking of the worst, and before i could shake my head and clear my thoughts, i marched up to him and grabbed him to the collar of his uniform. "where is your commander?!" i hissed, lifting him into the air with my angry words, and i stared up into his fearful eyes. he let out a gulp, before talking hurriedly.
indent"commander... gods rest his soul... he fought hard, and until the very end," the soldier cried out, and let out another cry as he landed on the ground with a dull 'thump'. i took a few steps back, my magic unstable, as i stared at the soldier sitting in front of me. he sensed my disbelief, and hurried to explain. "there were... there were too many enemies surrounding us. i tried to help, but he took a fatal blow that was meant for me, and even then he still continued to fight!"
indent"gods rest his soul indeed... he was a good viscet, and hearing that he fought until the very end puts me at ease," i respond automatically, before letting my arms hang limply at my sides. even though this was war and no one was safe from it, i realized how terrible of a thing fighting was. "soldier. this will be the last battle that i will fight for your kingdom. i'm done with bloodshed."
indenti didn't care to elaborate, but i believe the soldier understood my words.
indenti will no longer fight for the kingdoms.
