Name: Boulderwhisker
Nicknames: Old Amber Eye, Scar,
Former Names: Boulder capped with snow
Gender: Female
Age: 75
Clan Thread: X
Personality: Hardy and strong-willed, Boulderwhisker makes for a very stubborn cat. She's very independent and prefers to work alone, for reasons unspecified. Not a team-player by any means, Boulderwhisker has the tendency to seize control occasionally and boss others around, regardless of whether or not she has any right to do so. While she may appear arrogant and vain, Boulderwhisker is exceptionally humble and acknowledges that she has flaws, and that so do others. Boulderwhisker is 'boulder' than most and will fight to the death for what she holds dear to her, which mind you, isn't much.

Incredibly smart and wise, Boulderwhisker is a tactician and rarely jumps into the fray without pausing to think first, which is more than can be said for Daisystar and Juniperclaw. Cautious and suspicious of strangers, Boulderwhisker may be wise but she can be needlessly hostile and harsh to the those she doesn't like, simply because of a mere 'feeling'. As a result, she can be seen as harsh, standoffish and rude; not a cat that has many friends, evidently, but Boulderwhisker doesn't care; she's just as aloof as she is rude.

Nevertheless, Boulderwhisker is loyal to her cause and a hard-worker. She's not lazy and is incredibly resourceful, as well as loving of the ones she does cherish; which again, isn't many. Boulderwhisker is very much a stickler for the rules and demands that everyone be treated the same in regards to the rules, even the leader and other clans! She carries herself very much like a leader and others tend to occasionally assume she's the leader, rather than Daisystar!

History: She doesn't quite remember how she came into existence, Boulderwhisker knows that at one point she was born to two loving parents, had a dead brother and lived in the mountains with several other cats; her name was Boulder capped with snow, but for reasons she didn't know; maybe it was her grey fur and the snowy surroundings? Boulder didn't know, she was only young when her father had a dream.

A dream filled with flowers and grass as soft as down, a vengeful leader, a kind warrior and a fierce warrior; a dream filled with a traitorous healer and her as deputy, gently guiding this tiny clan through troubles and turmoil. Boulder was naturally sent as soon as she came of age and just as the dream foretold, she was deputy of a clan called MeadowClan and everything was going just how it should've.

But then that healer came, small, unassuming and covered in a coat of fur as dark as raven feathers. Her name was Sedgeleaf and she was the first cat that Boulder ever loved, she even changed her name to be more of a clan cat in hopes of pleasing her. Boulderwhisker and Sedgeleaf were close, but the dream was true and Sedgeleaf turned out dark; power had corrupted what little kindness the molly had in her.

Duststar, Pearnose, Birchclaw; all their lives had been torn from them, all because Boulderwhisker couldn't bear to slay Sedgeleaf. But Sedgeleaf, fearing Boulderwhisker would turn on her, slayed her easily. This betrayal stung Boulderwhisker beyond belief and since then, the idea of love has been made sinister to her.

A few moons later, Boulderwhisker was made wiser and given a second chance; a guide to a very young molly, by the name of Cinderstripe. Sent down by the ghostly stars and blessed with yet another life, Boulderwhisker tutored Cinderstripe on becoming Cinderstar and for once, it felt like everything was going just right. Until Cinderstar fled, unable to stomach the idea of ordering others about.

Left alone in the world and unable to return home, return to StarClan, Boulderwhisker was forced to walk this world.

Until they came across RainClan, or rather two cats that said they were RainClan.

How did they get that scar: Sedgeleaf. In the dead of the night, the healer wandered up to Boulderwhisker and with trained precision, tore her eye out and left a maggot-like scar in its place. Why she did that, Boulderwhisker didn't know, but it should've been a sign that things were changing for the worse.

Family:

Grey wings against pale snow - Mother - Deceased - ''She cared for me, I know that much, for how long I don't know.''
Shadow that grows tall - Father - Deceased - ''He was the one who got the dream, I know nothing else.''
Thistle that blooms too early - Brother - Deceased - ''All I know of him is that I suckled while he lay dead.''

Relationships

Sedgeleaf - Former Mate - ''I loved you, you loved power more.''
Duststar - Former Leader - ''I failed you, MeadowClan had so much potentional.''
Birchclaw - Former Comrade - ''I may have never liked you, but you didn't deserve to die like that.''
Pearnose - Former Friend - ''You were a kind soul, you'd have made an excellent deputy.''
Cinderstar - Former Apprentice - ''Why did you run away? I would've helped you...I hope wherever you are, you are at least alive.''
Daisystar - New Leader - ''Calm down, there's nothing good to come of being too curious! Pay heed!''
Juniperclaw - New Warrior - ''You say you'll make a good deputy? I find that very hard to believe, air-head.''

username; minizerkah
name; ambereye
previous names; fido, bloodhunter, ghost
age; 45 moons
gender; tom
rank; warrior
clan; badgerclan
theme song; cabin crazy - netnobody & young lungs (warning bad language)

personality;
ambereye is not good with other cats. he doesn't like communicating and finds most cats 'difficult'. he tends to keep to himself and doesn't like showing his emotions as he wouldn't want to be called weak. he finds most things stupid like love, family, belief etc. he can be quite rude but most of the time he doesn't mean it.

despite his rude and odd behaviour, he is actually a traumatized cat who is in search of someone who understands him but due to his behaviour no one really likes being around him.
history;
(first part of history is in the 'family' section)
when the battle with his parents happened ambereye was 19 moons old, after the battle he left the moors to find a territory he would be comfortable with and find cats that will help him forget what had happened. he found himself in the mountains, he got attacked by a group of cats from a bloodthirsty clan. due to him not being settled down anywhere they quickly convinced him to join. as quickly as they convinced him they changed his name to bloodhunter as they thought his previous name fido was too kittypet like.
he was 26 moons old when there was a large dispute in the clan whether the clan were to change their ways or not. ambereye didn't really have an answer to the question so he ended up being dragged into the side of the argument for the clan to change their ways. every cat who was one that side ended up leaving the clan in search of their own territory to start their own clan. they were halfway down the mountain when they were caught in a storm. most cats died and a lot got separated, ambereye ended up on his own. he went on his own search for territory and ended up living on the beach for many moons, taking on the name ghost.
scar explanation;
ambereye got his scar from adela during the fight, it is a constant reminder that his parents basically hated him and most likely no other cat will. he hates it and always has cats staring at it making him hate it even more.
strengths;
    - despite ambereye coming from the moor landscape he is a surprisingly good swimmer. even with him being good at swimming he was never a cat to really like splashing around in some water.
    - with the training he received in the mountains he was made into a really good fighter. he likes fighting but isnt one to start a fight out of nothing. he will only fight when fighting is necessary.
    - with growing up on the moor he learned to be stealthy and quiet. two good skills to have when needing to stalk up on prey or on a cat.
weaknesses;
    - ambereye, not being used to trees, is not good at climbing, never has been, never will be. he can never grasp the technique to successfully climb a tree.
    - he can get a bit arrogant which is a part of his odd and rude behaviour, he hates being arrogant but it just happens and he cant stop it.
family;
ambereye was born to marek and adela. ambereye was in a litter of three, he had a brother named axel and a sister named harley.
marek and adela were once kittypets, when their owners died they fleed to the moors where they became rogues.
harley died to a fox at the age of 10 moons and axel left the moors with his mate.
marek and adela blamed ambereye for the way they 'lost' their other 2 kits. the conflict between them grew so much that one day during their usual arguments ambereye attacked marek starting a huge fight between the trio. the battle ended with ambereye killing marek and adela fleeing.

Cat Name: Silentsong
Old names: Raccoon, Silentpaw
Clan: Amberclan
Rank:Warrior
Gender: Female
Age: 27 moons
Relationships: Amberstar- Best friends/Clan leader
Personality: Amberstar's best friend, sarcastic, tough, funny (In a sarcastic way), noble, kind, hates rouges.

Destiny isn't a path any cat follows blindly.
It is a matter of choice, and sometimes the heart speaks the loudest.
Listen to your heart, that's where you true destiny lies.

History: A qroup of rouges found her as a small kitten, almost new-born, and left in a thunderstorm by their mother. They took her in as they had a queen on their group who could raise her. They named her Raccoon. She was raised to fight dirty, be tough, show no mercy, and HATE clan cats. But one day she met one. She spotted a large amber and white cat moving through the underbrush, her fur blurring in and out between the trees. Raccoon pounced on the cat, but when the cat didn't struggle or try to get away, she didn't hurt her. She couldn't, the young slightly concerned face of the cat staring up at her. They talked, the young Amberstar telling her that she could join and clan and be happy. She politely declined and went back to her rouge camp, never wanting to tell anyone about that incounter. But they knew. Bard, a large black with silver stripes cat, glared coldly down on her. "Raccoon. Cone here now!" He growled slow and threateningly.
"Yes sir?" Raccoon whispered, barely breathing.
"I need to tel you something." He was sitting on a large rocky cliff, overlooking a whitewater river. She got close to him not wanting to look him in the eye, but she did, and that was a mistake. He batted at her face, her eye gone, then with one powerful shove, Raccoon was off the cliff, a female cat was screaming "Nooooooooooo!" and the feeling of plummeting, falling, down, down, down. The earth blurred, and she closed her one good, still existent eye. Then all there was, was cold then black, pitch black. She woke up, opening her eye, and feeling aching pain ringing hollowly in each bone of her body. Amberstar looked down on her again, the same slightly concerned look on her face.
"Well silent cat, what happened?" Asked Amberstar as she embraced Raccoon with some loving licks. Raccoon told her story, and they decided on a new name, Silentsong, for her story was told in a dramatic arc, like his you make a song, story, or play. And a new cat was born.
Where the scar came from: Bard ripping it out on that stormy night, after Raccoon betrayed the fundamental rule of a rouge; To kill warrior cats.

clan thread: sageclan

name: jaybird

age: thirty-nine moons

rank: medicine cat

likes and dislikes:
herbs, flowers, peace, stars, climbing, voles [+]
water, violence, watching her clanmates get hurt, leaving the territory [-]

personality:

jaybird is a mild-mannered cat, always choosing her words carefully and making sure they come out exactly as she means them to. she can be stubborn when she firmly believes in something, but most of the time she is very easy-going. she is intelligent but refuses to ever unsheathe her claws, so she became a medicine cat. she is gentle with her touch, but sharp-tongued when it comes to the cats shes treating.

history:

from kithood to adulthood
jaybird was always a happy kit, convincing her brothers and sisters to go on adventures with her. "robin, sparrow, eagle, come on! we can just go look at the stream! we won't go in, i promise!" she would beg, and they would follow her reluctantly, being swept away in her fiery enthusiasm. whether it was walks to the stream, watching the two-legs from branches of trees or spying on loners, jaybirds siblings would follow her like ducklings. that was, of course, until one of their adventures went wrong.

"come on, come on!" jaybird encouraged her brother. she had recently found a wide river, and as her luck would have it, a fallen tree had landed smack-dab in the middle! that would be a grand adventure, she had thought proudly, seeing the other side of the forest!

"i-i dunno jaybird." eagle spoke from the other side of the river, his eyes wide as he trembled. "it shook a lot when you were going across." jaybird scowled, lashing her tail. "have i ever steered you wrong?" she shot back, and her siblings shared a long suffering look.

robin nudged eagle forward, her face amused. "well, it's your turn to step on the bridge. then i'll go, then sparrow will go." she stated, and sparrow puffed out his chest in anger. "i will not!" he cried, shooting her an angry look, pushing eagle out of the way gently. "i'll go first, you scaredy mouse!" he teased, jumping onto the fallen tree. jaybird cheered, as did robin. eagle was still silent with wide eyes, and if jaybird squinted, she could see him shaking.

"o-oh." sparrow said shakily, his claws unsheathed. the tree seemed to be shaking a little. "how did you do this, jaybird?" he asked frantically, and jaybird laughed. "use your claws to dig into the wood!" she called, and he seemed to take her advice, moving one paw at a time. "make sure you don't lean on one side though!" jaybird advised, just as sparrow leaned on his right side, his claw slipping from the wood. he landed into the swift river with a splash.

"SPARROW!" the siblings shouted together. jaybird felt her heart drop into her stomach, whining low in her throat. she couldn't see sparrow in the fast moving river.

they searched for two days. at moonhigh on the second day, jaybird was hanging her head. neither eagle or robin would speak to her, and they still hadn't found sparrow. she let eagle and robin search ahead, still on opposing sides of the river.

"sparrow! oh great stars!" jaybirds ears perked up as she ran, skidding to a stop as she looked for her siblings.

"my legs. robin, i can't move my legs. i cant feel them. robin, are my legs gone?" sparrow asked frantically, and eagle sobbed while robin closed her eyes. jaybird could see the unnatural twist in his back, bile in her throat. blood was pouring out of him as well, and she knew he wouldn't make it long at all.

"y-yes. yes sparrow, your legs are still there. you can't feel them because-" eagle shot her a glare and curled up to his brother, ignoring the blood that was getting on his fur. "because you need to sleep. that's why. sleep and you'll feel better at sunrise, i promise." sparrow nodded weakly and laid his head down, closing his eyes.

jaybird wished she was on their side of the river, keeping her brother company at his deathbed. but that was not what fate had intended.

sparrows chest began to rattle, then get shallow, and just before sunrise - stopped altogether. robin wailed out her grief, sending a bunch of birds flying out of their trees.

they're sparrows. jaybird thought numbly. she made a move as to swim over, but robins sharp glare stopped her. "you!" she hissed, venom pouring from her tongue. "if you ever cross this river again, i swear i will stick my claws into your neck! i hate you, and eagle does too! you killed our brother! kin-murderer!" she shrieked, and jaybird felt her eyes go wide, shooting a desperate glance to eagle. he didn't meet her gaze.

without another word, jaybird turned and ran into the forest, robins words echoing in her ears. kin-murderer! kin-murderer! kin-murderer!

that was the last time she ever saw her siblings.

the fight
jaybird grew into an adult, but never was quite the same cat as that day. she was more cautious of risks, and stayed clear from running water. when there were cats nearby, she didn't try to talk, just ran from them. she didn't want to get anyone else killed because of her foolishness.

one day, she had scented a tom nearby her lonely den. she had scrambled to her paws and started walking - but not before he caught up to her. "hey! hey you! you're in my forest!" he called, and jaybird sighed as she picked up her pace. "yeah, yeah, i'm leaving already!" she snapped back, only to yowl in irritation and shock as teeth clamped around her tail.

"what in the name - what are you doing?!" she shouted, whirling around and batting him with her paws still sheathed. she refused to unsheathe them, knowing that they were bloodied by an innocent life. she wouldn't take another.

"theres a price to pay for coming into my forest!" he spat, and raked his claw down the side of her face. agony like she had never felt rushed through her like fire, and she was dimly aware of collapsing, the tom still attacking. her face was still stinging as her world went thankfully black.

when she woke up, she was alone, the scent of sickness and blood imbedded in her pelt. she stumbled her way out of the forest and into the meadows nearby, her pawsteps clusmy from weakness, infection and hunger. once deep into the meadows she allowed herself to stop, her sides heaving as she struggled to breathe.

meeting sageclan
jaybird awoke in flashes.

"no, gingerstrike, we can't just leave her there! vanillapaw, stormwhisker, go to the stream and get me celandine, chervil, feverfew and poppy seeds. hurry."
a white and grey tom stood beside her, then noticed her eyes were open. "shh. its okay, we'll take care of you."

she groaned softly, her head pounding as memories fluttered, blurring around the edges.

"okay, lets get her upright. come on then, work your paws." the tom seemed to be talking to her. "w-what?" she managed to gasp out, and the tiny cream tom gently hushed her. "we're taking you back to camp, so you can rest up and heal." he soothed, and she shook her head through the pain. "n-no. i'm okay."

the ginger and white molly spoke then, snorting. "yeah. you're okay. you're bleeding out and you have an infection, but you're okay. shut up and let us help you." and, well, jaybird couldn't exactly argue with that, so she allowed the darkness to take over again.

"ah - excuse me, are you awake?" a voice asked her, and she groaned, now fully aware of the fire on her face. "wh-where am i. who are you?" she struggled to stand, only for a tiny paw to gently push her back down. "hey, it's okay. you're in sageclan camp. i'm vanillapaw. we found you in the meadows, looks like you collapsed after fighting with someone. we brought you to our camp and healed you up some." he said, and jaybird nodded once, keeping her eyes shut.

"how bad is it?" she asked after a moment, and vanillapaw seemed to hesitate before finally saying, "you - ah. well. you lost an eye."

jaybird let her head rest onto her paws, morose and depressed. "sounds about right." she said glumly, then curled into herself. "i'm going to rest." if vanillapaw said anything else, she didn't hear it.

when she had finally awoken, she had talked to sageclans leader, hailstar, about repaying them. when he simply waved her off, she had offered to stay, but stated firmly that if she did she would never harm a living being. instead of getting angry like she had expected, he got a curious glint in his eye and had asked her,

"how would you feel about healing cats?"

and that, well, that was the least she could do for sparrow.

now
jaybird hummed happily, sorting through her herbs. vanillapaw and hailstar were out training, stormwhisker was hunting, so it was just her and gingerstrike in camp.

"y'know, i wasn't too sure about you at first." gingerstrike finally said in the quiet, making jaybird still. "but now - well. i guess i'm happy that hailstar didn't listen to my advice and took a chance on you." jaybird lifted her head and saw gingerstrike giving her a sharp smile. she nodded to her, happiness blooming in her chest.

i don't deserve this much happiness, but these cats deserve someone to help them. i hope you're watching sparrow, knowing that i'm trying to atone for my sins.

[ what matters most is how well you walk through the fire ]

Deep into the night with the moonlight as my guide
I go wander through the pines and make my way to nature's shrines
and I look up to the sky and I know you're still alive,
but I wonder where you are I call your name into the dark.

I wake up in the morning and I don't know where I've been.
All alone on a mountainside, and huddled in the wind.
And it feels like I've been away for an era but nothing has changed at all.
And it feels like I was with you, but what did we do and where have you gone?

On the night you disappeared, I wish I had seen it clear.
But a strange light in the sky was shining right into my eyes.
There was no one else in sight, just the endless frozen pines.
but I wonder all they know 'cause they don't die and they don't grow.

I am ready to follow you even though I don't know where.
I will wait in the night until you decide to take me there.
Cause I know I don't wanna stay here forever, it's time to be moving on.
I don't wanna be the only one livin' when all of my friends are gone.

gender//

age//

rank//

detailed description//
A heavyset tom with a rich amber eye said to match the colour of fire, Slatestar is a very large cat. Slatestar's fur, although not thick, is very plentiful. His large size is nearly doubled by his pelt of fur, which is often slightly matted from a lack of care. His ears are tipped with black tufts, and the whorls and strips of his coat form a dark contrast with his paler grey fur. He is sturdily built, with broad shoulders and large paws. Strong muzzled and sharp clawed, Slatestar is a naturally built fighter, and he bears the marks of at least one lost battle.

personality//
Torn by loss, and desperate to not let anyone get hurt, Slatestar is a stubborn cat. Although independent, he is not impulsive, and will always carefully consider what consequences his actions may have. Slatestar could be called a coward, although he is not afraid to defend his friends, but perhaps it's most important that he's focused and intelligent. He is a strong willed and determined cat, there are many times when friends count on this and his honesty in times of need. You may not notice this when first meeting Slatestar, but the fact that he is impatient and not the best at listening to others weakens him as a leader. Multiple enemies have been made by his inability to take other's advice.

The mountainside forest was quiet as the pair of cats approached, bells on their collars tinkling a quiet song. The bigger of the pair turned his nose to the air, whiskers twitching as he sniffed. A strange scent lingered on the air, something wilder than either of the two kittypets.
“Melody,” The tom spoke in a gruff whisper, “Something smells...” He wasn’t sure of the next word, and after a quiet pause finally settled on “ different.” In response, Melody gave a quiet laugh.
“Hush now, it’s just the smell of the forest.” The tomcat, Dexter, flicked an ear. He wasn’t sure of his mates quiet reassurance.
“Dex, I promise you it’s fine.” As if to prove her point, the large she-cat bounded forwards a few paces. Dexter watched as the grey cat stopped, turning back to face her mate.
“See, there’s nothing-“ Her words were cut off with a screech, as a white furred cat leapt from the shadows. His entire being radiated wild, from his large claws to the twisted scar running down from the base of his neck to his shoulder. Melody gave a shriek that was one part battle cry and two parts terrified kitty pet. Dexter gave a growl from somewhere deep within the back of his throat, and pressed his weight onto his hind legs. In a fluid motion he lunged at the white tom. His attack was more power than precision, however Dexter still managed to bowl their attacker over. Melody scrambled to her paws, anger burning in her eyes as she turned to the stranger, who squirmed under her mates claws.
“Why did you attack me?” She snapped, words dripping with venom. The white tom cocked his head, the anger that had been clearly painted on his face fading to confusion.
“You’re in our territory?” His voice raised at the end of his meow, turning the statement into a question. Now it was Dexter’s turn to be confused.
“Your territory?”
“My clans. How would you not know that?”
Dexter turned to look at Melody, not stepping off of the pinned cat, and the bell on his collar caught the light.
The stranger gave a soft “oh,” and then a light laugh.
“I’ve been bested by a kittypet, that will make a story to tell.” To Dexter’s surprise, the white tom wiggled our from under his claws, shook himself off, and then looked back at the pair of Maine Coons.
“I am Paletooth, deputy of Timberclan. I would like to introduce you to the rest of the clan. Follow me, if you will?” Melody gave a shrug, trotting over to Dexter’s side.
“I don’t see why we shouldn’t.”
Slowly the trio made their way to the clan camp.

———————————-
26 moons later

Briarleap stalked along the edge of Timberclans border, her dark pelt serving as a disguise in the mottled forest floor. Her bright green eyes flicked over the bracken, scanning for any enemies nearby. Her heartbeat quickened as something in the underbrush moved. She flexed her claws, preparing for a fight. She took a step forwards, and a raven burst from the bushes, cawing an angry message as it raised itself into the sky. The feline gave a hiss as the bird flew off.
“Stupid featherbag. You nearly blew my cover.”

Little did the she-cat know, but a metre away crouched a small Timberclan patrol. Lead by the former kittypet Dexter, now known as Wolfstripe, the patrol also consisted of Paletooth, and a quiet she-cat called Mudwhisker. The three had been sent to check the border, as prey was becoming increasingly scarce - and their leader had reason to suspect the neighboring clan. Wolfstripe gave a flick of his tail, and without warning Mudwhisker pounced. The intruder shrieked as the bulky tabby grabbed her with her claws, snarl painted onto her face. Wolfstripe leapt out from the brush, lunging at the scrabbling felines. He sunk his teeth into the enemy’s ear, drawing a pained hiss from her. As Mudwhisker rolled out of the way, Wolfstripe felt teeth sink into his leg. He let go of the intruder, giving a pained growl. The dark she-cat squirmed away, turning tail and dashing away from the border. Paletooth gave chase, however the intruder’s long legs carried her away before he could reach her. Wolfstripe gave a sigh, limping back to the camp on a bleeding leg.

9 moons later

Wolfstripe gently nosed his way past the two kittens rolling in the dirt, and gently padded into the nursery. There, his mate, once known as Melody gave a quiet meow.
“Aspenflower, how are you?” He smiled, as she rubbed her head under his chin.
“I take it the kits are well?” He turned his gaze to Aspenflower’s swollen belly, as another Queen looked up at him.
“They’ll be here any day.” She said, gazing at the loving pair.

5 days later

The queen, it turned out, had been right. Four bright eyed kittens had been born, and each named after the colour of their fur. Silverkit was the palest, her stripes faint. Fawnkit’s fur was a pale tan, in contrast to his brother Greykit. The last of the kittens was Slatekit, a large kitten with dark fur. When the kits were born, Palestar did his best to show joy for his two friends. However, he also knew that these two were former kittypet’s, and may not understand the implications that the death of Timberclan’s former leader, Mousestar, implied. Worse than that, he knew his lives were getting low, and his time with the clan may be shorter than expected. As he pushed into the nursery, happiness swelled in his chest, worries slipping away as he watched the happy family. Not wanting to interfere, he simply wandered over and gave Aspenflower a soft lick, before gazing down at the kits. One gave a quiet mew before nuzzling back to her mother’s belly. Palestar gave a quiet laugh as another kit squirmed away from him, back to his mother.

————————-
4 moons later

Greykit stalked forwards, unaware of the danger directly behind him. He nosed the ground, fur fluttering in the wing. A leaf caught in the breeze fluttered past, and Greykit pounced. As he did, the thing hunting him pounced as well.
“Gotcha!” A triumphant Slatekit held his brother down, as grey gave a loud,
“No fair! I was distracted! Silver, tell him it wasn’t fair!”
Silverkit gave a soft laugh.
“Good warriors don’t get distracted. You of all cats should know that.” Greykit harrumphed, although did not argue with his sister.
“I’m not going to be a warrior!” Fawnkit said, an edge of pride in his voice.
“What are you gonna be then, a queen?” Slatekit laughed, as his brother gave a frustrated mew.
“No, I’m going to become the medicine cat! I’ll make sure no one gets hurt.” Fawnkit chirped.

5 moons later

Brindlefrost bolted into the clan camp, her coat slick with sweat, and a dark patch of red quickly forming on her pelt. She gave a loud shout, panic clear in her voice. The cats that were lazed around the camp looked up.
“There are Fernclan cats coming! They ambushed our hunting patrol, and are headed here!” She stumbled, before Fawnpaw steadied her, carefully leading her to the medicine den. Palestar lashed his tail, leaping down from the rock he had been resting on.
“Mudwhisker, I need you and Greypaw to come with the main force! Wolfstripe, drive the cats away from the camp!” He continued listing orders, as the clan leapt into action.

Slatepaw felt a thrill of excitement surge through him. Here he was, nine moons old, and already he would be part of a battle. He only wished that it was him instead of Greypaw with the main force. Everyone knew his brother, although strong, was soft at heart. A small glare formed on his face as he stared out at the forest his brother had dived into.

Tension was heavy in the air as the cats prepared for a fight. Mudwhisker and an assortment of others, including her apprentice Greypaw formed ranks in the forest, as Wolfstripe and Aspenflower rushed towards Fernclan to attempt to lead the cat's away. The remaining felines paved around the camp, ready to defend the kits and elders. At first the forest was quiet, but the soft noise of the forest was split by a single, piercing wail, which grew into a cacophony of screeches and yowls. Slatepaw could feel his own heartbeat rattling against his ribs, and slowly sank to the ground as if he was hunting something. There were noises in the forest ahead, and Brindlefrost, sitting outside the medicine cat den, gave a flick of her tail, a warning signal. She had seen something. A cat burst through the bushes, her ears tucked back and panic bright in her eyes.
“Mudwhisker?” Slatepaw cocked his head, throughly confused. This wasn’t how the battle was supposed to go, and he knew it. Mudwhisker stumbled, before shouting out to the clan.
“We need reinforcements. There’s too many of them!”
The warriors at the camp sprung into action, charging into the woods, and Slatepaw followed. Again excitement bubbles up inside of him, although this time dulled by fear. As the group of Timberclan’s cats neared the sight of the battle, Slatepaw balked. The air reeked of blood, and sharp wails rose through the air like ethereal demons. He was scared, although he would hate to admit it. With his heart in his throat, Slatepaw jumped into the fight. His claws lashed out, catching a black cat on the side of the face before he tucked into a roll, biting out at a paw that swatted too near him. His teeth sunk into a cat, who yowled and jerked away. In the midst of the fray, Slatepaw made the mistake of looking left. There, Greypaw was grappling with a large she-cat, her jaws snapping dangerously near his neck.
Slatepaw leaped at the russet cat, growling from somewhere deep in his throat. His claws raked down her side, and she stumbled back from his brother. Greypaw gave a glance to Slatepaw, a relieved glint in his eyes.
“I thought I was going to die there!” Greypaw gasped, giving a quiet laugh.
“I’d never let you do that.” Slatepaw laughed back. A cat dodged past him, and to his horror, lunged at his brother. Greypaw was bowled over, his legs flailing as the large tom slammed him down to the ground. There was a sickening crunch as the tom stepped down, and Greypaw’s eyes flashed with panic. Slatepaw lunged at his brothers attacker who was already darting away from the wounded apprentice. Greypaw gave a frightened mew, and Slatepaw stopped his chase, instead turning to his brother.
“It’s gonna be okay. We’re gonna get you to Fernpaw, and he’s going to fix you up real good, alright?” He murmured, panic swelling in his chest.
Greypaw gave a lopsided smile.
“I think this is it. I don’t think I’m gonna-“ His words were cut off by violent coughs that shook his body. Slatepaw pinned his ears.
“Grey, y-you can’t. We still- You haven’t even became a warrior. You haven’t beaten me in a fight yet? Remember that, you always promised you would beat me in a fight?”
Greypaw didn’t respond.

——————-

3 moons later

On the night of his warrior ceremony, Slatepaw thought about his brother. He should have been there, and Slatepaw knew it was his fault. Greypaw would eternally only be Greypaw, never growing past an apprentice. Slatepaw became Slatefang, for his strong hunting prowess, and Silverpaw, Silverheart. Lastly Fawnpaw became Fawnberry, medicinecat of Timberclan.

——————-

8 moons later

On the night Fawnberry died, Slatefang was on patrol. He sniffed at the border of the clan, and caught the scent of mud and cedar. Fernclan. He gave a growl, bolting back to the camp to report the intruders. When he got there, the camp was already buzzing in a commotion. Something about the medicine cat. Fawnberry. Slatefang pushed his way into his den. To his horror, his brother was limp on the ground, a pool of red at his throat. He could feel his paws sway underneath him. Silverheart nudged up against him.
“I’m sorry.” She mewed.
“Maybe I’m not built to live in a clan!” Slatefang snapped, turning to Silverheart. “You know our parents were kittypets, and now both Greypaw and Fawnberry are dead! Have you ever considered that it’s because we aren’t made for this?” He lowered his ears, grief painted onto his face. “They didn’t have to die, Silver.” Slatefang took a stuttering breath. “They didn’t have to die.” Silverheart gave a sigh, as her brother slumped to the ground.

That morning, when Silverheart awoke, her brother was gone, snuck out in the night. She gave a deep sigh, knowing she had lost the last of her brothers, although this time not to death.

-------------------

5 moons later

When Slatefang woke up, he knew he had to return to his clan. He had dreamed of fire, bright and burning and dangerous. He ran as quickly as he could, but when he smelt smoke his heart sunk. Slatefang had reached his camp, but all he could see was burnt remains of a once powerful clan. Where once stood the steadfast pines, great, beautiful trees, were just smoldering embers. There were no cats to be found. His heart hammering against his ribs, the dark grey maine coon vowed to rebuild a clan, on the embers of his past home.
