I believe it just acts as a regular dilution and makes the coat lighter, but I'm not entirely sure, so take my words with a grain of salt.

Cream is a dilute which lighten the red pigment. If there are two copies of cream, it can effect both red and black pigments.
a black cream is a smoky cream (dilute) while a black double cream (double-dilute) would make a smoky cream, and be much lighter. Another name for a classic cream champagne is classic ivory champagne because of the cream+champagne gene togehter. the classic champagne comes from the black pigment. I also suggest reading this x
