Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. All of our animals are special and deserve a chance to be happy with an owner that will care for them. The question is: are you ready to love them?

Personality: Mocha simply just loves any attention she is given, but even more, she loves giving it back. She'll let you cuddle her, squeeze her, brush her, and she will return all the love and more. She's loud and loving yet gentle and understanding. She'll even tolerate kids loving her a little too hard. She believes love is a gift that should keep circling around, and so she decides to give back more love than she was given to those around her. She's also an optimist and idealist at heart, which might have influenced her love belief. However her beliefs often makes her overbearing, some times causing for her to hover over those shes worried about and easily hurt when her love is fully rejected.

--Her Job In the Cafe: Mocha was trained to bring certain drinks on a platter, similar to a waitress. She'll more commonly bring food as that is easier to carry and less likely to spill but sometimes she'll bring the shorter drinks too. This is of course only if the customer orders the "special server". The customer is assured that if somehow their drink or food is spilled by the server, they will be given that same order free without the special server. Though, even when she messes up, the customers still love her all the same.

She finds the grump shutting people out a bit too often. All she wants is to give him love, though he doesn't exactly return it. She knows where her boundaries are but... she just can't help it sometimes. Luckily Amaryllis is there to give enough love for him and he returns it fully.

Thor -

Mocha absolutely adores this cat. He loves to love as much as her, along with a bit of dramatic words or actions, that only lets him give more love to those around him. He wants to make others happy by telling his stories, acting like a hero. Though she knows he doesn't act entirely as himself, and it is mostly to make it so he seems more interesting. However she love him for who he is, no matter what kind of character he tries to pull on as a costume.

Amaryllis -

As per usual, Mocha loves the cat. Of course, Amar's motherly personality let her take and give love equally, though she is so relaxed most of the time! In fact, the only times she truly gets worked up over something is when herself or someone she cares for is incredibly dirty. Of course she would try to clean herself along with the other friends that had become terribly dirty. She always appreciates it whenever Mocha messed up on a serving and Amar would help clean her up after the situation has gone over.

Lennie -

She doesn't entirely know what to make of this creature. She hasn't seen one before but he gives her love, cuddles with her and she is very appreciative of it. She loves him as much as the others, and adores when he tries to help out with serving orders. Mocha, Thor and Lennie often make small cuddle piles after a hard day's work.

Rye -

She is a little weary of Rye, even if she is a sweet dog. Rye is just a little bit off. She seems kinda sick, not in a bad way though. She just doesn't move around too much, mostly just greeting the guests at the front desk and staying there. She has a tendency to run into things, and she can't hear very well so she is hard to get a hold of when interacting, though she seems very pure. She is sweet, Mocha is just a bit weary in case she says something that insults Rye, and she wouldn't want that. They still sometimes cuddle though.

Personality: Sauda is a vibrant, bright dog. She just loves life and is thankful for every day she has. She is very optimistic, sometimes too much for her friends. She is always up for new experiences and adventures. She likes company, in both small and large numbers. She is the type of dog that exudes a positive energy just by being in a room. Despite her bright personality, she is actually surprisingly calm. Her mother was a show dog and though Sauda became a pet, she was taught by her mother to always be kind, gracious, and dignified around everyone, not just judges. Though she struggles with the dignified part, being prone to the occasional outburst when she is particularly excited, she is certainly a gracious and kind friend to those around her. While this is definitely a good thing, her optimism can also be a flaw or hindrance. Sometimes her friends wish she would just let them be sad for a minute and not feel like she has to cheer them up. While they appreciate her efforts, sometimes they find it hard to help her realize that sometimes there needs to be a time for sadness as well as happiness. When Sauda realizes she has bothered a friend she is always quick to apologize though. One of her best traits is that she is aware of her flaws and, though she still makes mistakes, tries hard to keep them in check.

One of Sauda's closest friends is Sienna. Sienna is a smart, lively dog who enjoys talking with Sauda. The two are almost like sisters, sharing their secrets and dreams. The size difference between the two is something some find funny when they see the pair strolling down the sidewalk. Sauda is much taller and looks much more elegant next to the stocky mutt. Despite the fact that these two don't look like they could be best friends on the outside, no one who sees them together could truly doubt that they are very much alike on the inside.
Freya and Sauda have a complicated relationship. Freya is a bit of a pessimist having seen some of the harsher sides of this world. Somewhat wary and distrustful, Freya is the opposite of Sauda in many ways. But, despite their differences, they each agree that they have helped each other, Sauda helping Freya to let a little light into her heart, and Freya helping Sauda to see that sometimes you have to look past the rainbows and understand someone pain before you can really try to help them.

Sauda's Story:
Sauda was born at the home of an Afghan Hound breeder. From the time she was a puppy Sauda had assumed she would be a show dog like her mother and father before her, but what she didn't know was that she had been sold before she had even been born. A woman had wanted to buy her as a companion for her daughter. Her daughter had issues with anxiety, and the woman had seen how calm the breeder's other Afghans were and thought that maybe having such a dog would help her daughter.
So, once she was old enough Sauda went home with her new owner. As it turned out, Sauda was very happy in her new home. Her owner loved her and showed unfailing patience with her when she made the mistakes many puppies make, such as chewing a favorite pair of shoes. By the time Sauda was an adult she was very content in the life she was used to. Unfortunately, her owner's family had fallen behind financially and had to move to an apartment, leaving their small home behind. Knowing Sauda would never be content in an apartment building her young owner decided that dropping her off at the shelter might be her best chance.The separation broke both of their hearts.
For a time Sauda's usual bright spirited were gone, but at the shelter she discovered lots of dogs who had been left there because they weren't loved. She came to realize, that while it was hard and she would always miss her owner, at least she had been loved, and now she could spread that love and joy to others.
Once she was adopted she did just that. She went to children's hospitals and brought a smile to many young faces. She found fulfillment in her new life.
