-------------- favorite food memory -------------
Paddington is a well renowned pastry chef. But, like most extraordinaires, he had less
spectacular beginnings.
---
It all started one mother's day morning, when he was just a lad. He wanted to do something
special, and while one would normally think to make something sweet and fun for their parent
on a holiday or birthday (like waffles, or even a cake!) his mother was in bed ill. Just a small
cold, of course, due to the wet weather that comes about in early spring. However, Paddington
knew that this wouldn't be the best for her health - even as a small boy who wanted to make
desserts, he knew too much sugar wasn't good for you!
But he did know one thing that was good for you when you were under the weather....soup.
He still wanted it to be a fun day though. Sweets were unhealthy, soup was healthy, but what
about sweet soup? That had to still be good for you, right?!? After all, his vitamins were good
for him and they looked like gummy bears.
Poor, poor Paddington had been up all night. He was afraid to set an alarm clock like a normal
person would, for fear of waking his mother who both needed rest and needed to be asleep for the
sake of surprise. He stayed up (most of) all night, jolting himself awake here and there waiting for
the early sun to peek through his curtains. Excitedly, albeit rather clumsily, he lumbered down from
his bed and into the small yet tidy kitchen.
He stood thinking for a moment, before promptly pulling out a list he had made overnight and
placing it on the tabletop. It read the following;
2 cups milk (warm)
1/2 cup sprinkles
1 tsp sugar
handful of m&m's candy
shredded coconut (to taste)
Love
The young kalon wasted no time before pulling out plenty of bowls, measuring cups, and
ingredients. They didn't have a lot of fany stuff in the house, but it was enough and he made
sure to double check everything ahead of time to make sure nothing would run out and leave
the recipe incomplete.
He heated the milk in a pan on the stove, not too hot but more than lukewarm. First, he mixed
in the sprinkles - the rainbow kind that feel like they're made out of really tiny bits of cake - which,
once melted, turned his 'soup' to a nice lavender color. He turned off the heat, and let it cool for
a moment before mixing in the larger pieces of chocolate candy so that they wouldn't melt in imme-
diately. Lastly, he added the coconut....it turned soggy rather quickly, but it added some extra
sweetness, and an interesting texture...he thinks it'll work just fine.
'Love' is a rather abstract ingredient, and of course, "made with love" is just an expression. None-
theless, Paddington blew multiple kisses over his concoction before scrambling to clean up some of his
mess in order to make room for a food tray, which he places a bowl, a spoon, and a card he had made
with crayon and lined paper on. He poured some of the purple mix into the bowl as carefully as he could,
scooping some of the best ingredients out to make sure his mom got the utmost experience.
He excitedly - and almost hurriedly - made his way out of the kitchen, doing his best to balance every-
thing and not spill while he pushed the door to his sleeping mother's room open. It creaked despite his best
efforts, but he felt bad trying to wake her up even if it was to give her breakfast in bed..
Paddington felt his mother' voice tickle his ear fur. Something about food...and masterpieces...she was
thankful. He put his heart into it. If he hadn't been asleep he may have detected some amusement.
"m&m soup..." he murmured, before curling up into a tighter ball and pulling what before had been
his mother's blankets around himself, falling into a deep sleep. He could hear dishes being washed and
put away as he fell into a deep slumber.
