Eitr
"Eitr is a mythical substance in Norse mythology. This liquid substance is the origin of all living things: the first giant Ymir was conceived from eitr. The substance is supposed to be very poisonous and is also produced by Jörmungandr (the Midgard serpent) and other serpents."

At first it was all a blur, the snake that engulfed my core burned stronger that it blinded my very mind with it's venom...
...when I came to my sense it was too late, what I'd done... what it made me do... all the blood...
...and the blood was blacker than my soul
Name - Eitr, also known as Vision
Gender - male
"There is prodigious fear in seeking loose spirits" - Arthur Miller, The Crucible
"Who am I... I am, how do you say, a loose spirit. I'm lost in my own skin with only the devil's soul in my mind, a undying flaming hunger in my soul and eitr leaking from my eyes"
Relationship with the snake:
Their relationship depicted in a song, the view point of Vision to the snake
At the start of the song, when the claw marks are green, this is Vision's earlier encounters of the snake, and how he is curious of how it is able to 'control' his body and movements. Unknown to Vision, but the snake isn't real, just a mind game that Vision unknowingly is playing on himself. The snake, Vision believes, is his own soul in a physical form, which came to him when he had his first taste of meat. Vision's mind created the snake to sort of place a 'blame' on why he turned out weird and he was feared by others. This snake appears in a lot of his nightmares and dreams, making Vision do horrible things, but at the beginning they're only minor. Vision doesn't understand why the snake never seems to be satisfied with these 'nightmares' and keeps coming back. Convinced if he doesn't sleep, Vision tries to test borders with the snake, seeing if it will "bite at his heart" or try to overtake control when Vision is calm. It doesn't seem to work and the snake only comes when Vision is overwhelmed, scared, angry or any other strong emotions and in his dreams. Vision doesn't yet know this and wonders why 'his soul' waits for before waking up.
As the song continues, the claw marks turn red, signifying Vision is at an unstable emotional state, and his mind loses control. This is when the snake normally takes over, and Vision feels an unnerving constriction of his respiratory system. Vision's mind is more powerful than he knows and it actually conducts this feeling to make the situation seem more real even though physically nothing changes. His brain chemistry also sends sensations throughout Vision's body causing him to believe he is growing fangs, longer claws, slit eyes, forked tongue, and more even though none of it is real. This is the full force of his 'souls' course, tearing into others and craving all the pain Vision felt when he had been feared and mocked for being, an outsider.
Close to the end of the song, when the claw marks turn white, it is a little piece of sanity that rushes through Vision after he's attacked or finished whatever the snake has done. This is when Vision recognizes the wrong he's done and guilt/depression comes slamming down on him at the pain he's caused.
After the small bit of sanity Vision is overwhelmed with rage at his soul for causing this and simply wishes for the corruption in his heart to leave. But slowly Vision calms down and writes a dark poem about the crime he's committed and leaves it where others may find it and stay away. Vision doesn't want to hurt anyone, but the snake seems to drive him towards it and whenever Vision switches there is no pulling him out of it. Vision breaks down afterwards and really just wants the snake to be gone, he wants his soul to be free to himself and not corrupted by the devil.
Therefore, the snake, also known as Vision's soul, has a possessive, unhealthy relationship with Vision as Vision goes from curious by the snake to wanting it gone or to burn in the flames of his soul. The snake's relationship with Eitr:
The snake, rather known as Eitr's soul, is a complex creature. It's not a spirit, for it wasn't sent by anyone, but more a phantom, attached to Eitr because he may have brought the snake into the world. Eitr was blessed with the gift of sight and flight, some think in his village only a god could have. The snake was brought up on the idea of all the evil things Eitr might do in his own fear. The snake was created on the foundation of fear from vivid night terrors, which may be the cause of why it comes in stressful situations. The snake adores Eitr, it's maker, and does anything to protect him. When Eitr is having a freak out moment from the situation the snake will simply slide into his being and take over, simply terminating the threat all together. The snake views this as it's payment to a forever debt to Eitr for its existence. The snake doesn't know good from bad and since built upon fear the way it sees to eliminate the threat is to kill it. So Eitr became known as a legend around Vikings, but not in the way he had hoped.
