"Why is there a pumpkin on your head?!"Suede quickly turned around and was met with the sight of her good friend Seiko, who was dressed up as a vampire. Halloween was only a few hours away, and they were meeting up at Suede's house before embarking on their hunt for candy.
"Sorry, I let myself in. I knocked but you didn't answer; it's no wonder you couldn't hear me with that thing on your head!" Suede sighed, gently pulling off the pumpkin headress. "I ran out of really good ideas, and you know I can't dress as the same thing twice!" Seiko rolled her eyes, adjusting one of her fang extensions. "I've been a vampire five times now, it's not the end of the world." She turned the glowing pumkin head over in her paws, and Seiko raised an eyebrow. "How did you come up with this idea, anyway?" Suede smiled, the memory coming back vividly.
"I was walking around town, enjoying all the Halloween decorations. I realized I enjoyed the pumpkins out of all the decorations, with their variety and glowing interior. I thought to myself, what if the light was like a soul? Taking hostage of a carved pumpkin for Halloween, and what if they could grow little pumpkin legs and come to life?! I thought that would be pretty cool. So, I became a pumpkin."
Seiko chuckled. "That, is actually a pretty good idea! I especially like the little cape that goes with it. You could say you're the Great Pumpkin from Charlie Brown, too, since you're all orange anyway!" Suede laughed, popping the pumpkin back onto her head. "So are we ready for Halloween to start? The sun's going down." The doorbell rang, and she looked outside to see the rest of their group of friends all dressed and ready to go. Seiko flung her cape dramatically. "Are you kidding? I didn't spend five years playing a vampire to stop now!" They laughed, and Suede grabbed her pumpkin bucket and opened the door to leave. She saw her carved pumpkins sitting on the front step, and couldn't help but grin, knowing that she's the greatest pumpkin around.
Extra:Suede used to be teased as a viscling for “looking like a pumpkin”. Her fellow visclings would often make her scared of pumpkin patches, convincing her that her parents wouldn’t be able to find her in one! It wasn’t until her first Halloween that she learned she was truly unique. She would be teased 364 days of the year, but every Halloween she was complimented on her coat colors by every other viscet she met; believing that she had painted herself for the holiday. Those compliments made her believe she was born for Halloween, and now has a love of the eerie, and gets excited the second the leaves start turning colors on the trees. Suede is known to decorate every square foot of her house and yard, and of course, has a long line-up of carved pumpkins on the front porch steps. She is famous for her “Apple roulette”, in which she has dipped both an apple and an onion in caramel, and you have to pick one and pray it isn’t the onion!!
She truly is a pumpkin at heart. Even after her semi-traumatic childhood, she always looks to the bright side and teaches every viscling that comes to her door that they can be anything they want if they try hard and keep believing. If you want to be a pumpkin,
you go be a pumpkin!
