The Achacha is a highly prized tropical fruit. It has been cultivated for many years in small holdings and domestic orchards at the foot of the Andes in the Amazon Basin of Bolivia. The Achacha fruit is "Delicious, refreshing, exotic, tangy, effervescent . . . no wonder the name translates as “honey kiss”!"

Achachanta often times can be found slowly chasing her tail in the attempts to eat the delicious fruit on her tail. Once the chase beings it will not end until a painful bite is felt on her tail when she finally catches her tail. Sadly she still has yet to learn that the fruit on her tail is not real and often times chases her tail for hours on end. Once she chased it for three days straight!

Achachanta loves her fruit and when she's not chasing her tail an is often times quietly eating blackberries or sleeping. She is now the only okaip kalon left in the basel zoo in Switzerland. She was born her and only knows the life of the zoo. She often times gets hit by flying hot dogs from children's hands and it always spooks her causing her to run full speed around her exhibit in a panic. She has only ever lost her cool once from getting hit by food and that ended up with a large kick to the glass window causing a major crack in it.

The gold raspberries are delicious (their flavor is extra sweet!) and I recommend trying them if you are lucky enough to find them at your local grocery store. Whole Foods has been known to stock them occasionally.

random fact: If food is scarce, ladybugs will do what they must to survive, even if it means eating each other. A hungry ladybug will make a meal of any soft-bodied sibling it encounters. Slightly disturbing fact, but it shows their determination to survive for as long as possible!
