Relationship with Their Brother:

As kits, the two of them were very similar - curious, excited about everything new and always going on adventures together. The brothers were pretty much inseparable from the day Neo was born. Spock was a good and caring big brother right from the start, and even if their age difference wasn't huge, he took over the responsibility to teach his baby brother all that he knew.

Neo has always looked up to Spock and, especially as a kit, wanted to be just like him. As Spock started to show interest towards the natural sciences, Neo began to dream about them too. It's not that he was consciously copying him - the two of them just were almost telepathically connected and all of their interests usually matched up perfectly. Spock wanted to become a scientist, and Neo's biggest ambition was to become a doctor. He loved the idea of spending his days helping people and making the world a better place.

As the brothers were growing up, eventually both the kits and their parent started to notice that Neo was not a fast learner at all, very much unlike his brother. At the age when Spock was reading college-level books and learning complex mathematical formulae, his baby brother was just getting started on basic multiplication and division. Neo had the curiosity and discipline, yes, but he simply had a hard time understanding numbers. His short attention span didn't really help concentrating in class, and being a very slow reader he couldn't keep up with his peers. Luckily this affected the brother's relationship only in a positive way - Spock was always excited to teach Neo and Neo was very excited to spend more time with his brother.

Despite his best efforts, Neo couldn't get to college and he finally gave up on his dream to become a doctor. He spent his days working odd jobs and volunteering at whatever he could find - he just wanted to do something good with his time on Earth. When Spock went to school, the brothers didn't get to spend as much time together as before. They stayed good friends nonetheless and had tons of fun together whenever they had a chance to.

When Spock finally got his dream job on board the spaceship and left home, it was understandably rough for both him and Neo. Accustomed to being together most of the time the brothers missed each other a lot in the beginning. In time they started a habit of exchanging long, handwritten letters explaining their daily lives in detail. Even if reading a lengthy reply always takes Neo a good while, getting a letter from his brother is every time the high point of his day. The two meet up whenever they can, but understandably that is not very often due to Spock's demanding job. But when Neo misses his brother the most, just knowing that he's out there, somewhere amongst the stars, reading his letter, makes Neo feel enormously less alone.

A Letter From Far Away:

Dear Spock,

Thank you for your letter! I was so excited to receive it, as always. I'm always so envious of your beautiful handwriting - I wish mine was as cool looking as yours, but I don't think it will ever be. I'll keep practising though.
Thank you for the pictures of the spaceship too! I'm hoping to one day be able to visit you on the ship you work at. I'm sure it's very nice in there, and your room looked especially nice. And congrats on your latest scientific finding! I didn't understand much of it really, but the picture of the plant was very pretty and it sounded like it was important. I'm so happy for you! You're always doing a great job out there!

Alright, here we go. Usually my letters are from far away physically, but this time my letter is from far away in time as well... Right now I'm sitting where our climbing tree will be in... 100 years? Or something like that, math is not my strong point, as you probably know. It's weird seeing this place without the tree! Our house is missing too, but there's another, really old building here in it's place. I really miss running around in the yard when we were kits. Summer days were the best.

Anyway, I thought this would be a good place to leave this letter for you to find eventually. This is my fifth letter to you, but since I haven't heard back from you, in case you haven't received any of the previous ones yet here's the story once again:

I'm stuck in the past. I borrowed a time machine from work to go see tigers - I've always wanted to meet extinct animals and I used to have this super cute tiger plushie as a kit, do you remember it? Anyway, I wanted to see if tigers really were that fluffy, but something went wrong. First of all, I landed in a totally wrong century. I'm, like, 100 years late, tigers are long gone already. As soon as I noticed that I tried to go further back with the time machine, but it wouldn't start up anymore. The central computer told me that something called a time capacitor is broken. I went to ask around where I could buy a new one but guess what? No one knows what they are! Apparently they don't have time travel yet. I should've probably known this but it's been ages since my last history class.

So, here I am, stuck in the past. There's no more tigers, you (or anyone else from our family, or any of my friends, or anyone I've ever known) aren't born yet and I have no idea how to fix the time machine. But I've seen enough movies to know that if I change something in the past, the future should change too - and that's why I'm writing you a letter again. You'll find this and come pick me up eventually. At least I hope so.

I found some people I could maybe call friends soon. They were nice to me and offered to let me sleep on their spaceship until I can come back home. I explained to them that I'm from the future and my brother will come pick me up soon, but I don't think they really believe me. Either way they were nice to me so I'm gonna hang out with them until I can leave. Which will be soon, I hope - it's really boring here. Can you believe they don't even have food replicators yet? Most of the stuff I've eaten since I got here has been canned goods and the occasional dry cracker. Unbelievable. I'll never complain about mom's fresh pumpkin soup ever again.

I can't remember if I was supposed to tell you anything else... Well, if I missed something I'll tell you in my next letter. And for the record, here are the locations of my previous four letters in case you haven't found them yet. I packed them all in airtight metal cans so they should be still fine when you find them.

- your school (the academy place, I can't remember what it's called but I'm sure you do. I left the letter near your future parking space)
- our grandparents house (the same house is here already, can you believe it? The letter is buried in the flower bed)
- the beach where we used to go as kits, buried near the rock where we used to sit and watch the sunset
- very very high up in the tree where we always climb in our neighbourhood park

I'll keep writing letters. You'll have to find one eventually. I hope you're having a good day and enjoying your time in space. I hope you're eating lots of nice, replicated foods because I'm not and I miss chocolate cake. Say hi to our parents for me if you see them!
