      Chapter Nineteen: Boss
      __________________________
      Characters::
      Maua || lvl 199 assassin || 29 y/o
      Maua is always angry or annoyed at something. She's rather sarcastic and kills with no guilt. She seems to be the main adventurer in the group. She's pretty much a jerk

      Sierra || lvl 5 medic || 12 y/o
      Sierra is pretty much useless. She complains a lot and is always scared about something. She can shoot a bow pretty well though? And she makes all of their medicinal remedies!

      Melanie || lvl 10 knight || 27 y/o
      Mel is nearly as useless as Sierra, originally a bartender, Maua forced her to come along on the journey. She's pretty sweet and talkative though!

      __________________________
      Silence filled the halls of the mysterious castle, save for the loud echoes of footsteps. Maua had ordered her companions to stay quiet, best not to stir up any demons. Besides, they were almost to the throne room, where they'd either meet their death or save Kalokairi. Their footsteps made enough noise to awaken any demons in these halls, but it seemed they didn't want to attack. Their purple eyes glowed in the shadows, but they didn't attack. Perhaps even they were afraid of their master. Sierra gulped, looking ahead. At the end of the hallway sat a large door made of some sort of dark wood with intricate swirls. The more the adventurers looked, they realized the designs were skulls and screaming souls. Now it was Maua's turn to finally be scared. She rested a paw on the obsidian doorknob, but cold, icy pain pressed into her chest. She gasped, stepping back. She pulled out the map, reading the instructions on the side of it. "Only the purest of hearts may open the door, only the darkest of hearts may become pure.." Maua frowned slightly. Had the doorknob made her heart pure? Or would she be the one to beat whatever lurked beyond the doors, and her conciousness would be clear? They should've read the prophecy before they entered the castle. Sierra pondered the prophecy, and joked quickly, "Well, clearly the darkest of hearts is you.." Maua growled, "This is no time to be joking. You're a kit, you're the purest." Sierra nodded, and cautiously moved towards the door, and extended a shaking hand, her eyes squeezed shut. Her paw rested on her doorknob and it turned into a beautiful white diamond knob. This place was enchanted with the demon's magic and she'd somehow reversed it.. with her heart? She looked back at Melanie and Maua, and they nodded encouragingly. Sierra took a deep, shaky breath. She turned the knob, and the door glowed in a bright light, the light seeping through it as she opened it. Darkness crept through the door, dimming the light instantly. Sierra backed up, leaving the door open. A dark mist crawled along the floor, creeping up their legs and winding around their arms and bodies. It squeezed, and moved away. They looked closer, seeing demons and kalons screaming in the mist. It casted images- of their fears. They walked through the door into a large, circular room. It was white, save for the dark plaster and golden throne. It was huge. In the throne was seated a large demon. They drew their crystals and weapons out worriedly. He took up a quarter of the room, dark mist seeping from his body. He was a large dark mass, and had two glowing purple eyes. His teeth were sharper and longer than daggers. They were rotted and yellow. If you looked into his eyes, you'd easily get lost in them, trapped under his control. He chuckled, a deep, scary laugh. He stood, and his head nearly scraped the high ceilings. He had to be at least eight feet tall, and he had long, curling purple horns. Maua shook with fear. He'd cast an illusion on himself, making him look like all the victims she'd killed, being an assassin. Only she saw this however. Maua screamed, curling up on the floor and holding her head, weeping. Her nightmares had come to life. Melanie shuddered, "Who- who are you?" He fingered the small golden crown on his head that the king of Kalokairi had once worn. He laughed evilly, his horrid breath spreading into the room. He reeled of death and decay. "I am your worst nightmare. I am your king, and will always be. Bow before me- pheasants." Maua just laid on the floor shuddering and gasping. He face was blank. His dark mist fingered pieces of her hair. It picked her up, twirling around her legs and arms and raising her above the ground. Her eyes remained blank and emotionless as she stared at the king. He grinned maliciously. "You're a pretty prize aren't you? I think I'll keep you.. for a while." He chuckled, with evil intent edging his gaze. He'd surely kill her in the end, no matter what torture he put her through. His mist plunged into her nostrils, and wound its way around her soul, grasping it and turning it into a dark substance. Maua shuddered, her eyes turning purple. Her teeth grew a few inches and claws tore through her paws, pain coursing through her body. She grew in brawn and height, her clothes ripping off her body. The assassin had turned demon. A darkness spread across her fur. Dark mist seeped from her paws. She smirked and growled, approaching the pair of kalons. This was what they'd have to face. Would they have to kill their friend to save Kalokairi? She was the best fighter of them all, how would they kill this demon? Would they even survive another day?

Tʜᴇ Fᴀᴄᴇ ᴏF ᴇᴠɪʟ!

As a young kalon being told stories in his own royal home, Ico assumed it was the prince of the royal family. A second son with no hopes of taking the throne because he had an older, more mature brother. It was a famous story, easy to understand with motivation and a purpose. A corrupted prince, arrogant and rude but wanting to do the best for his kingdom; which turns out to be the worst of things.
Allariia figured it was a witch like her, seeking revenge on the town for any wrong doings. Many kits and adults had cast her aside, cursing her uncontrollable abilities when in reality she just needed time to refine them. Allariia had used their harsh words and fear to drive to be better, she couldn't the same for any witch or wizard found inside the throne room. Words hurt worse than any wound sometimes...
As expected, Ixion was hoping it was nothing but a simple demon looking to take over the area. Someone evil, close to the devil and bloodthirsty who enjoyed watching the town and land suffer from it's curse. Demons only listened to those who were willing to sell their souls or other, more powerful demons who'd kill those that didn't follow them. Logical, but what was their motivation for taking this land?
Pushing open the heavy doors to the throne room, they found the place almost completely empty. A few lizard like demons walked along the walls, watching them as they moved into the large clearing. The red carpet leading to the throne was almost black now, torn along the edges as were the drapes along the walls and ceiling.
"Empty? I have a feeling..." Ixion muttered, cutting himself off as he flicks his tail for the group to follow. He broke into a run, leading them past the throne down a hallway. Windows along the hall let in light, it made Ico feel dizzy until Ixion finally stopped at another wooden door and forced it open.
A garden; or at least it was a garden. Willow trees were stripped bare of life, dead vines cling to the cobblestone walls and the grass was grey as if covered in ash. The bird bath was cracked down and broken, the pond in the middle now only held bones of the koi fish that once swap there. In the middle of the garden was a sun dial and a kalon.
Her hair was long and dark red, wearing a deep maroon dress with golden lace and trim to decorate it. A crown was on her head, but it seemed a little big for her. The glass pieces of the sun dial remained untouched, well dusted and neat unlike the rest of the garden. Ixion steps closer, his lance in hand as he approaches.
"Princess Valeria, you are under arrest for being the cause of this madness." The warrior states, stern and direct as he often was. The princess flicks one of her four ears, two had been hidden under her hair until he spoke. Slowly, she rises to her feet and turns to the party. Her face was white and grim, soft like her mother's but now carrying a kind of hate seem only in demons. A crystal was held in her paws, purple and pulsing with evil.
Allariia put a hand to her mouth when she sees the misty stone, hardly able to believe it. "The stone of hell? You're controlling the demons at the risk of your own soul?" The Stone of Hell was a myth to most, said to have been destroyed centuries ago. It allowed the user to control and summon demons at the price of ripping a little bit of the users soul each time. If the princess had lost her soul, she belonged to the demons forever. "But why..?"
Valeria's eyes were dark like the crystal, all four ears now pricked up at them. "What good is a daughter? A princess only lives to serve her kingdom and yet the king would sell her life away to the promise of peace? I was going to be sold, a gold token to end a petty threat from a kingdom with no knights worthy of fighting. Why should I send my valuable knights to another kingdom to die? My father has no brains on his shoulder, so I took matters into my own hands."
The three stood there, Ico gripping his stomach and trying not to feel sympathy. He knew first hand the cost of being born royal and even he ran from his own kingdom. "I'm sorry to hear that... It is a cruel fate isn't it? But the crystal, that Stone of Hell isn't the answer and we're going to stop you." Ico says, forcing himself to stand straight and pull out his sword.
The princess lifts a paw, several demons forming at her side and letting out terrible roars. "So be it, I'll have you all disposed of for defiling your queen."

Your heroes find themselves before the door to the final boss! As they open the door, tell me what they think of this enemy, before the fight!
What sort of villain has been responsible for all this mess?

[422 words]

The fight with the sentient vines scratched the duo up, but they were still standing and ready to finish this. The castle was silent, and each step they took on the marble floor sounded like water dripping. They approached a large metal door, with intricate spiral designs. Rueben and Polaris turned to eachother, and clasped hands.

"We can take what ever comes at us in there. We've made it this far, nothing can stop us now. " Polaris said.
"And we are going to make it through this alive. If you die, who am I supposed to insult?" Rueben laughed, and Polaris joined in. Their spirits lightened slightly, and their muscles lost some tension. The two readied their weapons, and pushed open the door.

Inside, there was a large purple toned dark gray room, with crystals jutting out crudely. In the center of the room was a throne, and what the heros saw caught their breath. Stretched across the throne, laying sideways with his legs dangling over the arm of the throne was Rueben. Sitting on the top was Polaris, who was gently moving legs back and forth in the air, like a bored child.

"Took you long enough." The false Rueben said lazily.
"We thought you'd be dead before you got here you know. You aren't the most impressive of heros. You choose to run instead of fighting, and somehow you still have all the crystals. " the false Polaris purred.
"But no more running for you," false Rueben snapped his fingers, and the large metal doors swung shut behind them, making the real Polaris and Rueben stumble forward.
Rueben shook his head, bringing him back to reality. "Who are you?" He growled, holding his knife threateningly.
"We are your other half, silly." False Polaris replied, gracefully sliding off the back of the throne and landing on the black granite floor. "Everyone has their opposite half. Usually they are fairly balanced, since the average fella has both good and evil in them, producing a other half with the same sort of ratio. However you two have an unusually high amount of good in you, in turn making our 'evil' higher." False Polaris explained, calmly strolling up to the real Polaris and inspecting his teeth. "Fairly average," false Polaris mumbled, and the real Polaris pulled away from his touch.

"It's rare that you ever meet your other half in your life, and even rarer that you get to kill them. " false Rueben smiled wickedly, pushing himself out of the throne and drawing his knife.

Prompt 19

Celestia and her boys manages to run down the stretching hallways to a set of double doors. With out waiting out side, the burst on threw and stumbled a bit into what would be considered one of the most elegant thrown rooms that they had ever seen. Though there was a shadow that loomed over the room, something unforgivable and creepy. Looking at the thrown one the center back wall, you could see a shadow figure lounging in the chair. He was pitch black and no features could be made out, and with a quick swoop, the shadow man had gotten up and transformed. This Shadow Figures was powerful and was the source of the transformation of the Palace and the source of all the evil shadows that lurked over the land. He seem to faintly glow and contradict his shadow self. looking right at him even seem to play ticks on ones eyes.

What was one figure now became three and as they walked into the light Celestia let out a gasp. She was looking at a exact copy of herself. It was creepy and if it was anything like her it would be deadly. She put her arms across the chest of both boys and stepped back a couple steps. "Now, if they are anything like us, it may be a even match up, Noah you take on Shadow Edmund, Edmund you take Shadow Noah. You Know each other and so maybe switching it up will give us the upper hand. Noah once you take out Shadow Edmund help your brother with Shadow Noah. I will focus keeping Shadow Celestia at bay." Celestia whispered and looked about her. She was trying to get a barring on what was around and what could be use to tilt the scales in their favor. She never planned to fight herself and this would prove to be the moves difficult challenge yet for her. Someone knowing all her moves and tricks would prove to be pointless to fight.

The Shadows seem to smirk as though knowing what they had in plan and the room seem to grow darker by the minute. Parts of the room faded back to real time, where dust was collecting and cobwebs hung freely. Where other places seem to stay sparkling new and shine like diamond. These Shadow like shape sifters where at easy and seem to have some sort of magical ability to morph time. They knew what skill our trio had and how to deal with them. They where also slightly stronger and more advance, so with that this matched which looked like an even match up was more in the shadow figures favor. They seem to wait patiently for their pronates attempted to put things together in their minds.

Noah had some how manage to find them swords in one of the rooms before entering the thrown room and with that made sure Edmund and Celestia had one each. The two boys trade places why behind Celestia and Celestia then lunged forward with her hilt level with her brow.

❝ Your heroes find themselves before the door to the final boss! As they open the door, tell me what they think of this enemy, before the fight!
What sort of villain has been responsible for all this mess? ❞

They wholly expected to find something horrifying abomination in the throne room, just waiting for them to enter so the final fight could begin. But, as Castor and Corneria threw open the doors, there was a figure in the throne. Something Kalon-sized was on the throne.

An old Kalon.

A crown of gold laid on their head, encrusted with gems and felts fit for a king. Castor recognized them immediately- the king of the land! The Kalon was old, with patches of his fur now silver-tipped. Much of his body wasn't shown due to his flowing, blue robe. It was trimmed with speckled white and black fur, and the rich blue fabric had intricate gold embroidery in it. Castor was stunned. Was the king under some spell? Was the final fight still far off?

The king shifted, standing up. His silvery eyes locked onto the two adventurers, Corneria looking ready to fight and Castor just... speechless. He stroked his foot-long beard, examining them.

"So you two are the ones who have been mucking up my plans, no?"
whoops
I'm gonna make this look good someday

prompt 19
All three ( 801 words )

Perhaps it had not been the wisest, the smartest, or the most courageous decision to approach a castle whose walls sung and ancient song of deceit and deception; covered thick in decaying vines, blackened as tar, forever reaching upward in the search of light. The darkness that filtered into the castle had been a beautiful symphony of fear and the stench of sulfur-- cracks in the ground formed wide caverns that seemed impossible to breach-- to reach across was merely a dream, and no member of the party could fathom the fact that ropes strung across were meant to be the way to the other side. It was utterly frightening, rope burns on tender palms, inching forward above an abyss of darkness and sulfur stench-- so great was their fears that tears blossomed and burned at the corner of their eyes and prays to their mothers and families and homes left their lips in terror they would never again return; that this moment was to be their last, and even when they crossed the ropes to the other side, they did not take back their prayers.

Fear was a major player in the game of life, in the adventure they had taken in such a light-heart nature. Their relief would be short lived, for there were more ropes and cracks to cross, and the more they found the deeper seeded their fears became; planted in the depths of their hearts, growing with each pulsing beat, becoming an infection much like an ophiocordyceps unilateralis. Their legs quivered under their own body weight, their mouths were numb, tongue a useless organ that sat heavy in their mouths and mind slowly going insane. They were three sets of insanity treading deeper into demise-- each step sealing their fates, and they did not know what these fates would be, but the rope burns on their arms and hands seemed an insurance that their fates would not be pleasant.

Sorrow was their song, muteness was their instrument, there was nothing more frightening in the moment than the fact none of them had something to say: the youngest had no quick-witted remark about the thick layer of dust that coated everything, the scientist had nothing to say in regards to the many organisms that made the 'abandoned' castle their home, and the semi-mute fisherman had no sigh of complaint or curious snort to the damp scenes around them. Their minds lacked the words, their lips cracked raw and wanting of water and food. They were trapped in walking forward, no thought to break-- if they were to stop then they would be ambushed by the creatures that sought to protect their king, there would be no time to rest, to drink, to eat. They would travel their final moments together, exhausted, but not alone.

Not alone. Not alone. Not alone.

The only though that kept them shoulder to shoulder; heads held high as fear attempted to pull them down, eyelids heavy in exhaustion but eyes themselves sharper than an arrow. This moment was their destiny, no matter which way that it ended upon facing the final combatant of their journey, this would be the moment that went down in their history. Together, the three of them. Together, they faced the unknown. Together, they would fix the curse that plagued the land. How terrifying a thought, that if they were alone, if they had let their anger and hated of one another break them apart at the beginning of this adventure, that they surely would have died long before reaching the castle. The young, the smart, the wise-- they were needed together, wrapped sweet in the arms of victory, they were needed to complete this journey.

If this was to be their final moment, sharp eyes staring at the door which hid away their last enemy, crystals sat heavy in a pouch passed between the three of them to carry the burden when ones shoulders became too stiff with the pain-- this was their moment together, and understand settled over them like a thick and comfortable blanket. Death was an assurance for someone, existence for another, and content that what they had done together would be enough, even if they did not stop the monster; for there would be another who would see their journeys, who would follow their footsteps if they failed, and perhaps then complete what they could not.

Whether their life, their destiny, was to defeat the evils or be an inspiration to those who would dare to follow, they would accept it upfront.

Together, three hands reached for the door, and three raw, bleeding hands pushed the door open. "Together." Three sets of voices, deep and tired, bitten with the sting of a scratched throat and cotton-like cheeks.

This would be their battle-cry.

"Together."

PROMPT NINETEEN
the face of evil!
[using pip, the kalon mascot]

      after many hours and a lot of struggle, pip made it to a door that looked like no other in the castle. the double doors were the tallest, widest doors pip had ever seen. they were a dark purple color and had sharp, skinny spikes bordering it. designs of things that looked like devil kalons were painted on them. it was quite frightening and pip wasn't sure if they wanted to know what was sitting inside of them. taking a deep breath, pip gave themself a small pep talk. you can do this pip. just do your job, pip took another deep breath and attempted to push open the door with one paw. it was way too heavy and pip ended up having to use both paws and push with all of their might in order to get the door to open. what pip saw inside the gigantic room completely amazed them.

      it was gorgeous, definitely fit for a king. there were beautiful paintings of kalons hung neatly all over the walls and things made of gold covering the floor. pip turned their head and almost jumped out of their skin. a kalon with devilish horn and glowing paws was staring right at them. " can i help you? " they asked in a deep voice. pip was speechless, they were scared out of their mind by the large kalon.
