The fight with the sentient vines scratched the duo up, but they were still standing and ready to finish this. The castle was silent, and each step they took on the marble floor sounded like water dripping. They approached a large metal door, with intricate spiral designs. Rueben and Polaris turned to eachother, and clasped hands.
"We can take what ever comes at us in there. We've made it this far, nothing can stop us now. " Polaris said.
"And we are going to make it through this alive. If you die, who am I supposed to insult?" Rueben laughed, and Polaris joined in. Their spirits lightened slightly, and their muscles lost some tension. The two readied their weapons, and pushed open the door.
Inside, there was a large purple toned dark gray room, with crystals jutting out crudely. In the center of the room was a throne, and what the heros saw caught their breath. Stretched across the throne, laying sideways with his legs dangling over the arm of the throne was Rueben. Sitting on the top was Polaris, who was gently moving legs back and forth in the air, like a bored child.
"Took you long enough." The false Rueben said lazily.
"We thought you'd be dead before you got here you know. You aren't the most impressive of heros. You choose to run instead of fighting, and somehow you still have all the crystals. " the false Polaris purred.
"But no more running for you," false Rueben snapped his fingers, and the large metal doors swung shut behind them, making the real Polaris and Rueben stumble forward.
Rueben shook his head, bringing him back to reality. "Who are you?" He growled, holding his knife threateningly.
"We are your other half, silly." False Polaris replied, gracefully sliding off the back of the throne and landing on the black granite floor. "Everyone has their opposite half. Usually they are fairly balanced, since the average fella has both good and evil in them, producing a other half with the same sort of ratio. However you two have an unusually high amount of good in you, in turn making our 'evil' higher." False Polaris explained, calmly strolling up to the real Polaris and inspecting his teeth. "Fairly average," false Polaris mumbled, and the real Polaris pulled away from his touch.
"It's rare that you ever meet your other half in your life, and even rarer that you get to kill them. " false Rueben smiled wickedly, pushing himself out of the throne and drawing his knife.
