Prompt 18
[439 words]
The grounds of the castle were surprisingly quiet and still as the three Kalons made their way towards the shadowy fortress. As they approached, Fay suggested they just march right in, swords drawn and lantern flaring... Of course, both Ramey and Galena voted two to one against her. With some debate, at last they agreed upon an entrance that, while still flashy enough for Fay's tastes, was sneaky enough that they would likely not be swarmed all at once.
Hiding around a corner of the castle with his companions, Ramey's lantern flared to life, and his large vines rose from the ground once more. In an instant, they launched at the castle windows, smashing the glass in and taking down the patrolling demons inside. The ones who survived climbed out the broken windows and scattered, seeking out the source of the commotion, and Fay and Galena drew their swords and struck the pitch-black creatures down while they were distracted and their backs were turned.
Their way inside cleared, the trio made their way into their final destination in Kalokairi.
The castle inside was about what one would expect from a royal palace, albeit in a state of noticeable disrepair. The architecture was intricate and mostly untouched save a few chips here and there, from the columns and ceilings to even the railings of the stairs. But the lavish carpets and curtains were torn, the furniture half broken apart, the paintings hanging along the walls hanging lopsided with long gashes running down their lengths.
Galena was glad she didn't have to pay for their replacements.
Roaming the halls were a few demonic soldiers, stronger than the ones they'd defeated to get in, decked out in light, tough armor. Though most remained unarmed, a few carried weaponry adorned with crystals (no doubt stolen from the people of Kalokairi); from simple swords and daggers with gemstones in the hilts, to bows firing enchanted arrows, and even a few sets of gauntlet-like weapons that could most accurately be described as battle claws tipped with crystals.
Their fights weren't overly hard, but they were long, like battles of endurance against waves of enemies. But at last they defeated their opponents and continued on.
Fay commented on the battles they'd faced in the castle thus far, comparing the enemies they'd faced to the Lizalfos and Moblins of Hyrule Castle in Breath of the Wild. Ramey replied that, if these were the common enemies, it would be interesting seeing Kalokairi's equivalent of the Guardians watching from all angles and the Lynels in the gatehouses.
Galena just wished they would speak English for once in their lives.
