"Psst, Eden, you got the grappling hook?" Calypso whispered as quietly as she could. It honestly sounded strange to her ears to hear that phrase. Here they were, at the end of their quest. This was really it; they had reached the castle! The feeling was bittersweet though, as the kalon couldn't help but wonder if they were truly prepared. Sure, they had spent nearly half of a month already on this incredible adventure, and then countless years even preparing to embark, but in actuality, Calypso still felt like a scared little kit.

Eden handed the ropes and anchor over, and Calypso steaded the small machine to project it. When they made the hook, the two quickly realized that neither would be strong enough to throw it themselves, so they had requested a skilled mechanic to build this contraption for them. He had told them that it was unpredictable and may shoot to either side as well, so Calypso pointed over to a bush for Eden to hide in as the contraption launched. Now, as she watched the anchor sail through the air, Calypso thanked him silently. It scaled the castle walls and perfectly landed against the edge of the cold black stone.

It was then that a small voice was heard behind her. Calypso whipped around and had only a fragment of a second to dodge what would have been a fatal blow to her face. Some kind of demonic guard was attacking her! She let out a loud yell, perhaps it was to intimidate him, though it did no such thing, and quickly pulled her gas-proof scarf over her nose and mouth. Then, the kalon uncorked the bottle of her black gas, and let the vapor fill the demonic creatures face. In an instant, he was on the floor.

She sighed, and took off her scarf again, terribly shaken up. "No, I'm a warrior." she told herself, but it was no use. Though she could lie to anyone and everyone else, she could do no such thing to herself. "Right."

The kalon beckoned for her friend to come back out, and she began the tedious journey of climbing the rope to the top of the castle. If all things went well, the two would make it to the top, unscathed and unnoticed. But in this terrible place, who could really tell what would happen. What would be the real difference between good and evil anymore? Calypso truly didn't know.

    Prompt 18
    [ 233 word count !! ]

Rhea and Li-Wei entered the castle once they made their way up to it. It took them a while to figure out how they should get in, if they should sneak in or just walk straight into the fortress - wherever the entrance was. In the end, Li thought it would be smarter to just walk straight in and it would take longer if they attempted to sneak in, probably with great failure.

When they walked inside, everything seemed quiet. A bit too quiet for such a scary seeming place. Ree figured there would be crazy invisible traps everywhere, so she tried to watch where she walked closely and made sure to warn her partner in crime, Li, about it too. Of course, he had already known this and took caution, however an alarm set off once they continued to walk further and monsters from everywhere seemed to fly out.

"Crap." was all that Li said before bringing out his bow and attempting to shoot them and Rhea made her distance, but was there to help if her friend needed any help whatsoever. Of course she should know from before that she's strong enough to fight, however she was still frightened and didn't want to risk her life quite yet. Once most of the monsters were gone, thanks to Li-Wei, they continued walking through the castle, making sure not to set off another alarm.

"castle hassle"

the three kalons approached the large castle cautiously, each of their weapons in hand. well, two out of three of them were true weapons. even though kyrou couldn't directly attack the monsters, he could surely attack them indirectly, as well as aid his friends during the battles. and so they went, slowly, cain with his bulky armor and axe, shelbie with her long, sharp katana, and kyrou with his ancient mage amulet.

the party stopped when they arrived at the castle. even though the terrain was mostly dead and old, they spotted a large shrub that still had a little life in it. shelbie crept over towards the shrub, motioning to her friends to follow. they ducked behind it, so they were close enough to see what was happening, but far enough to hide themselves so the castle guards wouldn't spot them.

"hey, why did we stop here?" cain asked, a little too loudly. shelbie whipped her head alertly, peering around the shrub, and her muscles relaxed with relief as she saw no one had heard cain's question. "shh! be quiet- they might hear us!" shelbie scowled quietly to cain. "anyways, we need a plan! we arent to just going to barge in there all willy nilly," she explained, her voice as low as a whisper. cain's face fell slighlty. "uh, that was exactly what i thought we were doing..." he murmured, his ears twitching nervously. shelbie gave him a stink eye briefly, before shaking her head. "that's a death mission you're asking for! i say we sneak inside, maybe, through a window! so that they absolutely no one could notice us and we could retrieve the royal family, defeat the source of the demons, and leave as quietly as we came in," shelbie said, saying everything that was on her mind quickly. cain played with the dead grass, entwining it through his fingers. shelbie blinked. "are you even listening to a word i'm saying?" cain shrugged, and looked up at her. "i mean, sneaking inside is cool and all, but we should totally barge in, our weapons all out! that way, we could take them by surprise so a few minutes a shock would be used for our advantage, and it's just best to get those pesky, smaller monsters out of the way," cain replied, doing hand movements to match with his plan. shelbie's lips drew back. "no, that's stupid! let's sneak in!" "barge in!" "sneak in!" "bar-" "stop!"

kyrou's voice rang through the air, and every one was silenced, turning to face kyrou. "guys... i don't think we can do either," kyrou said, kneeling to look over the shrub. he narrowed his eyes and steadied the castle closer. "look, there's a forcefield around the castle. a large one. i'm not sure if we could get inside," kyrou said to his companions. they all exchanged nervous, hesitant looks, except for shelbie. "we probably can't walk through the forcefield, but how about we... teleport through it?" she suggested, grinning. when she saw her friends weren't giving any responsive looks, she continued. "you know. with... a spell," shelbie looked at kyrou, and he instantly nodded, understanding. cain furrowed his eyebrow, not quite catching what she was trying to say. shelbie groaned. "kyrou could teleport us through, right?" kyrou nodded quickly. "ah... well, i mean i guess i can. like i said, those things aren't exactly my forte, so don't expect the spell to go through successfully," he mumbled. shelbie sent him a sympathetic smile. "i'm sure you'll do fine. are we ready?" everyone nodded. "great, let's go!"

in the end, kyrou sided with shelbie and decided to sneak in through a window. they stopped outside the forcefield bubble near the side of the castle, spotting a fairly large window they could easily jump through. "it's much more difficult to teleport an entity that is not connected to me, so i say we all hold hands together," kyrou said. shelbie nodded, but had a look of hesitation on her face when cain gingerly grasped her hand. shelbie made a quiet mumbling noise when he tightened his grasp on her hand. "okay, let's just get this over with."

kyrou shut his eyes tightly, his grasp tightening as well. he focused on arriving on the other side of the forcefield. he mumbled a spell, and imagined when he would open his eyes, he and his friends would be on the other side. he opened one eye at a time, and miraculously, it worked! kyrou grinned widely, looking at his friends with an escatic expression. "wow... that was pretty amazing!" shelbie said, her eyes lighting up. "shh.. there are still guards lurking around, hurry! let's climb inside that window," kyrou said. shelbie and cain nodded.

the window wasn't even that high, so it wasn't a hard task to complete. kyrou and shelbie snuck inside flawlessly, as quiet as a dead mouse. ( you don't often hear a dead mouse making any noise. ) cain, however, had a little bit more trouble. his large, heavy armor made loud clinking and clanking noise, bumping against each other as he tried to imitate a graceful acrobat which was climbing inside the window. needless to say, he failed, and he fell out the window inside the castle. kyrou and shelbie stiffened at the large sound of cain's metal armor. instantly, a number of various different creatures and monsters emerged from the shadows and encountered the trio, ready to fight. there were many different types of creatures, all the way from a poisonous spider, to pitch-black rodents with radioactive fluid dripping from the mouth, and even gem-stealing gremlins. however, they were easy to fend off, and eventually there were no more. but the three kalons knew that what they encountered was only a sliver of what this cursed castle could offer.

Prompt 18

(word count ;; 160 )
Featuring these nerds
______________________________

Naomi decided that they needed a plan for actually going in, but as she opened her mouth to suggest something Addie yanked her daggers from their holders and let out what Naomi assumed was a war cry and ran at the castle. She felt Castiel stiffen next to her and she groaned. "Can't she ever sit still?" She grumbled and darted after her as Addie kicked open the door. Shadow beasts flew at them instantly and she prepared her arrow to fire.

"Get your healing magic ready!" She snapped at Castiel as she quickly fired and hit a shadow beast that was going for Addie, that she didn't seem to notice. He looked confused as he held his staff, looking like he'd wanted to use an attack he had. "Please Cas! We're gonna need it!" She yelled as they ran. He nodded and followed them into the castle. Addie just might get them killed this time with her reckless behavior.

    Prompt 18 | Jia-Ae | Roster Post | word count: 159
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Sᴛᴏʀᴍɪɴɢ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄᴀsᴛʟᴇ! ( Tell me about the inside of the fortress. Does your hero sneak inside, or go in guns blazing? What sort of smaller baddies do they encounter? I'm on the edge of my seat here.)

There was no noise in the castle when Jia-Ae had first arrived on his own. No one to greet him, no one guarding the door, just a deadly silence that encompassed the entire surrounding area in an eerie feeling. However, that all changed almost instantly, as Jia-Ae decides to burst straight through the door without a second thought, the booming of his entrance into the castle resounding through the dimly lit- dark palace. There is not a single movement, no more sounds other than the single thud Jia-Ae had created and the male stands there for a moment, frozen and silent in case someone would approach. (And whether fortunately or unfortunately, no one did).

The inside of the fortress was beautiful, though hard to see without any light emitting from within, but intricate and full of details. It was different, definitely, from what others would have perhaps expected. It was still silent, almost abandoned feeling even, as Jia-Ae proceeded.

Prompt 18
[439 words]

The grounds of the castle were surprisingly quiet and still as the three Kalons made their way towards the shadowy fortress. As they approached, Fay suggested they just march right in, swords drawn and lantern flaring... Of course, both Ramey and Galena voted two to one against her. With some debate, at last they agreed upon an entrance that, while still flashy enough for Fay's tastes, was sneaky enough that they would likely not be swarmed all at once.
Hiding around a corner of the castle with his companions, Ramey's lantern flared to life, and his large vines rose from the ground once more. In an instant, they launched at the castle windows, smashing the glass in and taking down the patrolling demons inside. The ones who survived climbed out the broken windows and scattered, seeking out the source of the commotion, and Fay and Galena drew their swords and struck the pitch-black creatures down while they were distracted and their backs were turned.
Their way inside cleared, the trio made their way into their final destination in Kalokairi.
The castle inside was about what one would expect from a royal palace, albeit in a state of noticeable disrepair. The architecture was intricate and mostly untouched save a few chips here and there, from the columns and ceilings to even the railings of the stairs. But the lavish carpets and curtains were torn, the furniture half broken apart, the paintings hanging along the walls hanging lopsided with long gashes running down their lengths.
Galena was glad she didn't have to pay for their replacements.
Roaming the halls were a few demonic soldiers, stronger than the ones they'd defeated to get in, decked out in light, tough armor. Though most remained unarmed, a few carried weaponry adorned with crystals (no doubt stolen from the people of Kalokairi); from simple swords and daggers with gemstones in the hilts, to bows firing enchanted arrows, and even a few sets of gauntlet-like weapons that could most accurately be described as battle claws tipped with crystals.
Their fights weren't overly hard, but they were long, like battles of endurance against waves of enemies. But at last they defeated their opponents and continued on.
Fay commented on the battles they'd faced in the castle thus far, comparing the enemies they'd faced to the Lizalfos and Moblins of Hyrule Castle in Breath of the Wild. Ramey replied that, if these were the common enemies, it would be interesting seeing Kalokairi's equivalent of the Guardians watching from all angles and the Lynels in the gatehouses.
Galena just wished they would speak English for once in their lives.

Prompt - 18

Kalon Party
Dustin | Sell-sword | 17 years old
→ A hyper but forgetful boy with a good
heart and a wish to see the world

Perseus | Scholar mage | 25 years old
→ Dustin's relatively reserved mentor,
and reluctant but wise accompaniment

Jade | Shadow puppeteer | 24 years old
→ A graceful but painfully shy woman
with a cynical outlook on life

224 words

There were worse places to be trapped than a castle's kitchen Jade supposed. But then again there were better places to be as well. Like not trapped. But given the situation all the trio could do was lay low and make battle plans. The chance to run -a preferred strategy by two out of the three of them- had long since passed, and waiting for rescue was hopeless. So the only choice left was to venture further within the castle's walls and hope against hope that perhaps the demons hadn't infested the fortress.

"According to this book on secrets of the castle, there's a passage way over here that's supposed to connect to one of the prince's bedchambers." Perseus tiptoed across the floor, which though it was tiled and wouldn't creak even is an elephant jumped on it, the mage didn't intend to take any chances, and shoved aside a small cart made for delivering breakfast. Hidden behind the cart had lain the seems of a well-concealed door which after a great deal of fiddling with opened into a dark passageway.

"I wonder what is favorite food is," Dustin mused with uncharacteristic quietness, and plunged right into the tunnel before Perseus or Jade could offer up any alternative plans. The two were forced to follow him and hope dearly that no demons nested within.
