Hikaru Hotaru; The Brightest Firefly. Known for holding up his virtues, he is one of the few considered Holy. He forgives those whom have done him wrong, and is understanding for those in a bad situation. He welcomes those with no home into his Shrine and asks for nothing in return, and keeps calm when something doesn’t go right. He tells no lie, lest he lie to himself, and stays true to his word, never going back on a promise that had been spoken. He is reserved in the presence of one as Holy as him, and proud to be whom he is. He does not brag, nor tell others that he is better off than them. He helps others find their way, to be the best person that they could possibly ever be. He protects those under him with honour. He has no need for objects of this world, and keeps his appearance humble, wearing only his robe made from fabrics woven by his own two paws.

He takes on those who want to learn, teaching them how to live and simple life. Although he is said to be a God, he denies and says he is simply a messenger, sent to help others find their way, being the shining light in their darkness. He is usually seen with mellow colours on him, his mood usually reflecting that colour. His words are spoken in a soft voice, and along with the simple life he leads, he has never had someone to call his own. Hikaru is fine with this, and prefers not to taint himself. He still will offer his help to women, despite what people may think of them, or him. He helps anyone, no matter who they are, or what they look like.

Short story about the Viscet:

There are few people who do not like eating the meat of an animal. Although this is few, some people enjoy the hard labours they grow from the ground up. Rice is pleasant eaten with coconut milk, and Hikaru was the one that started this in his town. At first, it had been an odd thing to eat, and not many would try it, save for the few that studied and lived with Hikaru. They had said it was enjoyable, much better than the plain rice they usually ate every day. Hikaru had told them; “be thankful for the meals we had, some people cannot even afford a grain of rice.” They had nodded, and apologised promptly.
From that day, he had gone around offering some to those with not much food. A few people had happily accepted, others were more hesitant. Those that had accepted had said they would give offerings when they would, and he told them that he was thankful of their kind thoughts.
His colours always changed to a soft pastel green, when he was thankful.
He had walked home that day, and could not have been happier. There had been nothing wrong, the weather had been nice and warm, trees rustling softly with each breeze. Hikaru had taken the time to sit by the pond, watching the Koi the swam below the surface of the waters. The graceful creatures swum around, sliding across each other. These creatures we so peaceful that watching them was simply calming. His colours shifted to a pale orange, and he curled up beside the pond resting his chin on top of his paws, eyes shifting and trailing each fish in the water.
Far off, in the temple, he could hear the others, reading over their sutras quietly, writing and taking notes, or simply chatting about things, mostly the weather, and sometimes Hikaru could hear how own name, though not often. He wondered, for a moment where his disciples went during the day, and what they did with their lives, but he never asked, not because he didn’t care, but because it wasn’t his place. What happened to them, was their own business, unless they wanted someone to talk to. They often came from homes with unreliable parents that were not the friendliest people you could meet. Some of his followers were not even of his kind, but of others, so they could often be told off for being around him, depending on the family.
Hikaru accepted them, no matter who or what. He was there to help them, to guide them to a better life. He could never tell them what to do, or push them in a certain direction, because sometimes they only needed a whisper of advice, or simply a nudge to know what way they should head.
As he lay there, he could hear the ever-soft flutter of wings, and his currently pale purple eyes looked to see a butterfly. It fluttered towards him gracefully, and landed on his snout. Being this close, he could see the beautiful creature’s wings in detail. The soft orange mixed with the swirls and patterns of a dull brown was truly amazing. It sat there, perched on his snout, and began cleaning its legs. He smiled softly, making sure not to move much. He didn’t want to disturb it after all.
In a frame of all but ten minutes, it had cleaned its legs, shaken its wings, and fluttered off towards a sakura tree. It landed on one of the pale pink follower petals, and he sat up, rolling his shoulders and shifting his tail as he stood.
He would have to go inside for the rest of the day, he had spent enough time relaxing for now.

“Hikaru-sama!” Curare called, voice breaking the stillness that had enveloped the morning. The Viscetling had taken it upon himself to awaken early, and try and squeeze more teachings from Hikaru. The long hair on Curare’s tail swept the ground as he padded towards the black and white creature that he called his mentor.
Hikaru’s ears flicked up as he turned to the young Viscet, and instead of an annoyed scowl, he wore a warm and welcoming smile on his face. He shifted himself, and turned around to look down at Curare, and Curare in turn sat down, smiling brightly at Hikaru.
“Hmm, what can I do for you this fine morning, Curare-kun?” Hikaru questioned, his markings changing to a soft green, almost mimicking Curare’s colour. Curare grinned shyly at this, and sniffed for a moment before he spoke.
“I… I was wondering if you had any more teachings for me… Hikaru-sama…” Curare fiddled with the end of his tail as he spoke, and Hikaru hummed in thought, tilting his head.
“Hmm, well, I have many teachings I’ve not yet told. Is there something specific you would like to know?” Curare paused and his tail flicked, the long tuft along it dragging at the movement. “Well, I could tell you a story, instead, maybe? Something about my first student?”
Curare perked up. He hadn’t known of this story. He had thought that Hikaru had only recently been taking in younglings. He nodded with a hopeful grin, and sat down more comfortably, tail curling around his legs and paws folded in his lap.
“Now… where shall I start? Hmm, I know. At the beginning, well, close to.” Hikaru smiled. “My very first student was a boisterous young lady named Karura. Her fur, although a murky grey, was soft and never dirty. Her mane and hair caused her to stand out, but… she was different from most. Even from me. She had the power of fire. She never had great control over it and tended to burn everyone she touched- “
“But not you, Hikaru-sama?” Curare cut in, head tilted and ears back.
“Yes, me too, actually. Under my fur there are still a few mild burns here and there, but never could the fire harm me, not as much as the others, at least.” Hikaru scratched his chin for a moment, and sighed. “I had found her in a field of ash. She had burnt the whole forest to the ground and had no where else to go. No home to call her own. I had approached her, and asked her if she wanted to stay with me. She said no, do you know why that is?”
“Because she didn’t want to burn you and your shrine down?” Curare asked with curiosity in his voice.
“Yes and no. She didn’t want a repeat, and I think that at the time she was most scared of what she could become. She didn’t want the monsters inside her to have more reasons to play on her mind. She had told me of them, a few times. She was plagued by nightmares, the monsters in her mind told her what she was, but not what she could become.”
“And what could she become?” Curare asked excitedly.
“Anything.” Hikaru breathed out, relishing in a gleam in Curare’s eyes. “She could have become anything, Curare-kun.” A frown etched its way onto the black and white Viscet’s face, and his colours became a mellow green, duller than before.
“She “could have”, Hikaru-sama?” Curare questioned, albeit now a bit shyly.
“Yes. She gave it up for the empty promises that they monsters had whispered to her at night. That night, she had left. All she left me was a note and the scorch marks where her paws had touched.” A long pause was there with neither master nor student talking. It was tense, and Hikaru’s markings had turned blue.
“Hikaru-sama, what was the purpose of this story?”
“That everyone has a chance and that they in turn can chose to take it, or abandon it.”
