Kalons-- a species with soft manes and even softer hearts.

Monitored in forests across the globe for years, these animals
have recently been declared naturally tame as well as sapient.
Scientists are asking the general population to consider adopting
Kalons for further study in their capabilities of intelligence.

Their shining tails are used for identification and showing off,
which is helpful when spotting another Kalon from afar. This
association with other Kalons is why they are head-over-heels
for any shiny or colorful item that they come across!

this will be a half-optional partner contest, by which I mean;
if you have 10 or less kals, you may try out for both by yourself,
but if you have 11+ you must have a partner to try out!

the contest itself is simple, although there are a couple twists -
I would like to know about their relationship!

here's the twist;
we all know that not every relationship is perfect, and that
imperfection is exactly what I want you to focus on; to win
these kiddos I want you to tell me;

1. what faults their relationship has, and
2. how they make it work (or how they don't)

Tessa used to be an extremely loving girl that made friends with ease. She trusted others just a bit too much and slipped into the wrong crowd earlier in life. Personal catastrophes such as losing her father at a young age and an absent mother pushed her to experiment with alcohol. It morphed a sweet child into a hardened, stubborn adult. She's turned into a closed book and very rarely lets anyone see her true colors save for a special few. Tessa also has a tendency to keep secrets, a little paranoid trait that forbids her from seeking help for the trouble she's gotten herself into over the years. The big city she lives in is filled with various gangs and therefore a sea of enemies. To her everyone is out to stab her in the back or hurt her in some way. For her own protection, she carries around a gun and an intimidating stature, earning her plenty of enemies and very few companions. Though her trust is damaged seemingly beyond repair she has learned to confide in Acacia who, through months of expressing her care for her friend, has earned a high spot in Tessa's heart. (198/200)

After years of not speaking to each other, the two happened upon each other by pure incident. Acacia had begun pursuing a degree in medicine at a local university where her roommate often struggled with addictions to various substances. While Acacia was an alarmingly positive influence on the young girl there were still moments of weakness. It was on one Wednesday afternoon when Acacia answered the door to her roommate’s drop-off. In her determination to frighten the seller from harming her friend, she had not noticed that the person before her was none other than her childhood friend.

They yelled at each other for minutes before their voices ebbed away, quickly replaced with bewildered looks from both parties. After this chance meeting, they both began to talk more, each with their own hesitations and expressed their desire for the friendship from their younger years. It took weeks to move forward from their rocky foundation into a relaxed air. Acacia recommended that they both go to a local councilor, Arthur Spurr, to clear any bad feelings between them and to find new ways to bond.

In addition to counseling every two weeks, they enjoy writing daily journals to let out their inner feelings. Before they each go to bed they read aloud their entries. Arthur recommended this so that they each come to a more concrete understanding of how the other feels. Despite the initial awkwardness of revealing such personal information, it has deepened the connection between them and they are closer than ever before.

Despite their differences and the past bad blood between them, Acacia and Tessa have regained the loving friendship they had before. Now they are fiercely protective of one another, each taking steps to assure the other’s safety and well-being. They are an infamously inseparable duo on campus that everyone admires.

At first glance, Vashti (aka Tia) looks pretty menacing- especially with that resting-murder-face. Despite this, though, she is actually very sweet and kind and loves to talk. Tia is extremely extroverted and very outgoing and loves to try new and crazy things. Tia is very naïve and careless and many know her to be innocent and child-like. She is very clumsy and will basically trip on air. Though, she will just laugh-it-off. She is a generally pleasing person to be around. Tia has a very high social-class because of her family's money because of this, her parents are very strict. They set unreasonable curfews, keep track of the people she talks to/hangs out with (she isn't allowed to talk to guys unless they are of a high social status), and want her to become famous so that their family name will spread, but she aspires to be a doctor. Even though she is very well-off, she hates being rich and wishes she could live a "normal life", but she actually wouldn't be able to do anything herself because people usually do everything for her- including helping her get ready for bed. Plus, her clumsiness would cause a problem. (199/200)

Vashti was born into a very wealthy family. Their family isn’t rich for what they do- her parents don’t even work- they are wealthy because Vashti’s uncle was a very wealthy man for what he did during his lifetime. No one has ever told Tia what he did as work, but he was actually a very skilled thief who stole from many high-security banks. Tia has always hated being rich. As a child, she often envied kids who got to play outside with their dolls while she was dragged inside. Vashti was very mischievous as a child and would go outside even though her parents wouldn’t allow her. She’d run outside quickly with her dolls wrapped in her arms and play with the other kids in her neighborhood until her parents found her. As punishment, they would take away her dolls, which she loved. She considered her dolls her only friends, since she was trapped inside her house all day. When she was finally allowed to go to school, many kids talked about her- about how stuck-up she and her family was. Vashti never boasted about how much money she had, in fact, she barely talked about money at all when she was at school. She felt weird compared to her peers because of her high-class and felt she didn't really fit in. Despite this, she loved school because of the social aspect of it- she could do without all the work. She was quite popular in school, I reckon this was mostly because of her money, but I'm sure other times it was because of her inviting personality. Her weekends were filled with sleepovers and birthday parties because of her huge friend group. She barely had time to study or do homework during the weekends. As she grew older, her parents became stricter, she was later not allowed to go to parties or even leave the house unless she was going to school. She wasn't allowed to do any after school activities like other kids did and felt different than other “normal” kids. Vashti attempted to run away from her home several times, with no luck. During one attempt to run away, her mother had threatened to take away her future kits when Vashti becomes of age and finds someone she loves. Obviously, Vashti was scared- for she wished for a peaceful life for her family and she definitely wouldn't let her mother take away her precious kits. Vashti’s parents filed a police report and Vashti returned to her home- as reluctant as she was. She learned to get used to her prisoner life and her mother’s constant threats, though, of course, it would never settle with her and she would never have a good relationship with her family. Despite Vashti and Javeed’s obvious differences that seem to be hard to get past, because of their forbearance and cleverness, they are able to see past them and pursue a somewhat happy relationship. They learned over time about how to work best with the other partner. They slowly became more attuned to each other’s needs through empathy because of their lack of emotional communication. This absence of communication causes their emotions to be unaligned. Both Javeed and Vashti have a difficult time expressing their emotions through words, and both of them are fairly hard to read. Though, Vashti isn't afraid to stand up for herself or cry around Javeed- she feels like she doesn't have to put on a mask around him, but sometimes this can cause bumps in their relationship, though they seem to get around it fairly easily by comforting each other through empathizing with each other. They struggle to communicate with each other, but through their actions, love is shown. They are patient and kind with each other where possible, and because of this, they are able to understand each other. Vashti would wait forever for Javeed and she hopes he’d do the same for her. Another tough obstacle they had to get around is Vashti’s parents. Despite hating lying, she ended up keeping Vashti and Javeed’s relationship a secret from her parents, afraid of the consequences for loving him, for she loved him more than you could ever imagine. As if that wasn't enough, Javeed’s own mother even spoke that he should turn away from Vashti. Javeed is struggling under the pressure from his own mother’s hints to leave Vashti, but he knows he loves her and she to he. Their different social statuses makes it difficult for them to be together, but they will do anything in their power to make sure they are, because love conquers all. (313/∞)
