Flare
Male
Personality
Flare is handsome, and he knows it. He is very confident, and likes to groom himself. He is also a bit of a show-off, especially around females that he likes. He likes to brush and style his fur in his free time. Some Viscets are annoyed by him, simply because he seems conceited. He is. This is mainly what others don't like about him. Flare can dominate a conversation, talking about himself and his accomplishments. If you don't know him well, he may very well be the most annoying Viscet you will ever come across. However, he will go out of his way to help anyone, whether a spider in the house or a sad Viscet. He puts all self-grooming aside if he senses that someone is hurting. After someone has seen him put thoughts of himself aside, they usually understand him better. They understand that he is conceited, but they also understand that he can put others first. When Flare dominates a conversation, gently bringing this to his attention is all that is needed to bring a polite Viscet to the light. This is why his friends love him. He gets excited easily, and his mood fluctuates wildly. He can be ecstatic one moment, and depressed the next. Flare is also very intelligent. He is good at memorizing information, and remembers things quickly. He has learned a lot of human language by listening and observing conversations. He was a stray before Sierra adopted him from an animal shelter, so some things he encounters in the house are new to him. But he learns to use new things quickly. He is grateful to Sierra for adopting him and loving him, and likes to sit with her, letting her know that he will never forget what she did for him.

Short Story
Flare hopped out of the car, very excited that he had been adopted by Sierra. He couldn't wait to explore his new house, and hurried to the door, bouncing as he waited for Sierra to catch up to him. He had never had a home. He was born on the streets. As soon as Sierra cracked open the door, he burst inside, immediately sniffing around the house. He was looking for the other Viscet. He knew that there was another one here; he could smell her scent on Sierra. He pricked his ears as he heard an explosion from upstairs. Then gunfire. And the smell of the other Viscet was coming from up there. Worried, he rushed upstairs. He had to save her! He grabbed the handle to the room's door and burst inside, growling and bristling. The Viscet turned around with a yelp. Flare rushed towards her and turned, assuming a protective posture. He wrapped his tail around the Viscet, trying to comfort her. She must be terrified! He glanced back at the Viscet a fierce look on his face. Odd. She looked annoyed instead of relieved. She pressed a button on something she was holding and the noise stopped. He cocked his head, confused. He glanced all over the room, Just then, Sierra ran into the room, panting. "What in the world are you doing?" He backed into the other Viscet, even more confused. Why wasn't she happy that he was trying to protect the other Viscet? Then the noise started again. He jumped, growling. There wasn't anything in here. Sierra began to laugh, and dropped to her knees. Flare slunk over to her, sniffing her face. She wrapped her arms around his neck and directed his attention to a screen. "Don't worry, Flare! The noises are coming from there. See the screen? The noises aren't coming from actual people. You're fine." There were no other people in the room. They were on a screen. Relieved, he sat beside the other Viscet. His fur flattened again, and he groomed his mane. He wrapped his tail around her. The other Viscet sighed and continued to play her game, annoyed. "Flare, this is Magnolia," Sierra said. "Magnolia, this is Flare." Magnolia flicked her ears in acknowledgement and continued to play. Flare shook out his mane. He liked this Viscet. He had a feeling they would become very good friends.

Flare sat behind a dumpster. He was hungry. He trudged out from behind the dumpster, ready to find food. He lowered his nose to the ground and sniffed. He smelled food. He heard footsteps, and looked up. A man was coming, and he had food! Flare crouched down and crept slowly towards the man, nervous but curious. The man tore off some bread and tossed it to Flare. He jumped backwards and caught it in his mouth. Slowly, piece by piece, he crept closer to the man. Then, the man took a noose and tried to lower it over his head. Flare jumped back with a yelp. The man dropped the noose and tossed him some more bread. Finally, he threw a piece on the ground. Flare bent to pick it up, still watching the man. Then he felt a noose over his neck, and he yelped. Another man had come from behind.
A month later, he was in a kennel. He heard footsteps coming down the hall, and looked up. A woman came to the door and smiled at him. The door was opened, and he was put on a leash. He was finally going to be loved. Finally.
