Ianthina is not a viscet of many words. Well, really not any words, Ianthina was born both mute and deaf in her left ear. Ianthina doesn't like being called "impired" or "challenged"... when she can actually hear them say it. She is perfectly literate, and has a wider vocabulary than many probably do. Ianthina absolutely hates it when others yell at her because they think it'll let her hear clearer. What she thinks is even worse is when they talk to her like they would a child. Ianthina always moves herself to a placement where she is to the left of wherever she needs to listen so she can pick up the information needed. When others don't hear something they usually say "what?" or "hm?" but since she is mute, Ianthina will rest her paw on the viscet's shoulder, then when she knows the are paying attention, she'll tap her right ear to let them know the need to repeat what they said. Ianthina uses many gestures and facial expressions to get out what she needs to express. She can make soft humming like noises, but it takes lots of effort.
Ianthina is alone in a way that most don't think of. Not even close to many of her thoughts, insights, and views will ever be shared—it’s just to hard to write down every single thought—not only is she be unable to join casually in a conversation to add her point of view or correct a mistake that is bugging her, but it is also hard to get others attention when she needs help. She can't always share jokes and join in on songs. She isn't always invited to activities because she'll cause difficulty and slow the group down. Ianthina relies on sight in a way that most others will never have to. Frustration must be overcome daily for Ianthina. She must have constant patience to work with others.
