Whooop! Chinese New Year is tomorrow, which means that the special viscets are here! And I decided to base mine off a koi fish, with some new year color! Hope you guys like it!

For this one I'd love to hear an interesting new years story and see some cool new years gifs/images, and I'd like to see their personality.

1. Have fun!
2. Be nice to your competitors.
3. Prettying up is ok.
4. MUST have all the things asked for in the form (except extras those are optional)
5. If you are passive aggressive/rude at the end of this comp and win an RU, or HM, it will be taken and given to someone else. Super tired of seeing people do this.

The orange and red viscet peered down into the depths of the pond, watching the koi as they swam below, scales shimmering in the afternoon sunlight. It was rather calming being here for them; they were away from the busy village, as they wanted. No stress, no pressure, and complete solitude. Sanke was never really one for large crowds, or really just populated areas.

A quiet grumble stirred them, and they spun their head around to the luminescent strand of lantern plants draped across their back. A small shape moved, inside one of them, pulling it gently away from the string and floating up to Sanke’s face. They smiled softly, “it’s nice out here isn’t it?” The little lantern bobbed around in response, and they sighed. “I need to go into the village today. I heard they’ve started selling lantern plants in a stand in the market.” The viscet brought themselves to their feet, stretching their front arms and yawning. Sanke adjusted their strand of lantern plants and the silky drapery, buying a minute or two. They didn’t really look forward all that much to going; if anything they don’t await the coming anxiety.

Ever since they had been a young viscling, they remained away from their siblings, growing up almost entirely isolated from them. In doing this they ended up developing social anxiety, believing it’s better to be alone instead of in a large group. As they matured they were unfortunate, experiencing trouble only when with others. It just means more problems if i tried to spend time with others, they thought. So, they chose their home in a cozy forest clearing, a pure pond in the middle, housing koi and small aquatic plants.

Sanke shook their head and began strolling over to a nearby path winding through the forest, making way for the village. Sunlight filtered through the trees overhead, lighting up their silky fur. Slowly but surely as they sauntered down the path, anxiety formed like a knot in their gut, causing them to regret going in the first place. I need to get these lanterns. C’mon, you can do it! He glanced over to the lantern floating near his head, peering through and seeing the silhouette of their petite friend, it’s voice echoing throughout their mind. Just pay no mind to others. They only care about what they need to do, not you. Sanke just looked down towards the ground. “I know they’re staring at me though. I’m an unfamiliar face in such a tight-knit village…and my colors are so bright…”

Suddenly, the lantern returned to its place on the string, and the miniature dragon slid out from behind it, hovering back over to Sanke’s face and staring him straight in the eyes. You can do it. I believe in you, Sanke. They gave one more sigh, attempting to release the tension in his shoulders. “Alright…” they admitted in defeat and continued to push onwards.

At the village...

The area was thriving with activity, various viscets of many colors and origins scrambling to and fro, going this way or that. Sanke remained separate, keeping from large crowds of families strolling past, head down to hide their expression. No one should see me like this. I wish I could just disappear... they thought, hastening over to a stand with lantern plants strung all over it. Before it fully registered, they had run into a dark brown and blue viscet, quietly cursing to themselves. “S-sorry, sorry…” Sanke apologized excessively, worried he will retaliate. Cole swiveled to look at them, startled for a second, then realizing they’re legitimately sorry, he piped up. “Hey hey, it’s okay. Don’t worry about it.”

Sanke met his eyes and smiled sheepishly. “I—uh, didn’t mean to…” they looked back down towards the ground. The viscet merely shook his head, “really, it’s okay.” He suddenly tilted his head at Sanke, “wait, i’ve never seen you around before. Are you new to town or something?” Sanke looked off to the side, “well, I-… I live around here, but I don’t really go into town that much. Too many people for me..” they trailed off awkwardly. The viscet smiled gently, “I don’t either—..uhh.. why is one of your lanterns floating away?” Sanke’s eyes widened in surprise and his head spun around to the lantern, watching it hovering off of the string. They grit their teeth, wanting so badly to yell at his friend, but he didn’t know any of the viscets around him and doesn’t want to give their cover away. Sanke frantically grabbed the lantern with his front paws, clearly embarrassed, and clipped it back onto the string as if nothing had happened. The viscet gave him a strange look, but seemed to shake it off, at least for now.

“I know a quiet spot just outside of town we can go to,” he continued, “there’s never really any other viscets there.” Sanke nodded curtly, silently cursing themselves for not using tighter attachments for the lanterns. Aww, c’mon… the familiar voice sounded in their head, like a disappointed child. We can’t risk something like that. What if you had been caught? They thought back. Keep it on the low, Abaven. I need you. The viscet began to amble away towards the edges of town, Sanke cautiously and nervously trailing behind. They weren’t sure really if the brown and blue viscet was to be trusted, so they kept a short distance. “So, uh.. What’s your name?”

“It’s Cole. Yours?” Cole continued walking, not even turning back to respond. “Sanke.” They returned, peering around and taking in the surroundings. Both of them now were at the outskirts of town, woodland enclosing half of the expanse of grass around them, a few buildings taking up the rest. Sanke noticed now that there were lanterns adorning various branches of trees, ready to light up as the evening approaches. Tiny patches of daisies were scattered throughout the grass, blossoming and flourishing. It was approaching the early evening now, the sky having developed into a plethora of purples, pinks, and oranges.

“What d’ya think?” Cole beamed, looking expectantly at Sanke. The sight was surely something to behold. They watched some fireflies that were beginning to appear, lighting up the grass with soft, golden glows. “Wow,” was all they could really manage, sure the brush clearing they resided in was relaxing and beautiful in its own way, but this was something else. “I’ve never seen this part of town before. It’s amazing,” they watched the fireflies as they floated gently around, in awe.

“I’m surprised you haven’t. Sure, not many go to this part, but it’s often so quiet and peaceful you could easily get away from everything.” Cole laid down, wrapping his tail around himself comfortably. Sanke followed suit, still taking in the sight before them. “So… what do you even spend all your time out there doing? Don’t you have a family?” Cole pondered, side-glancing them for an answer expectantly. Sanke gazed down at the grass surrounding their feet as they began to respond, “well-..” Suddenly, Cole’s eyes were on Sanke, leaving them confused until they noticed the lantern, yet again unclipping from the strand and floating off. “H-hey!” They reached to grab it, but they were too slow to react, and the lantern dashed out of their reach.

Next thing they knew, they were scrambling after it, frantically attempting to seize back the lantern plant. Their claws tapped on the path beneath them as they moved, until the lantern abruptly stopped and began to float back down to the ground. The two viscets scraped to a halt, trying not to bump into one another. Sanke sprinted over in time to catch the lantern plant and hook it back onto the string, huffing as they caught their breath. Cole appeared weary as he pawed over, confusion clear as day on his face. “Wh- why does your lantern seem to keep floating away? As far as I know, they can’t do that!”

Before Sanke could answer, a low-pitched growl resounded from their left. Cole’s face contorted into one of shock and fright, even going so far as to back away a step or two. Sanke stared swiftly to the side, avoiding his gaze in shame. “I-I can explain I-” they were cut off by Cole’s horrified voice, “what is that?!”

The miniscule dragon peered into Cole’s eyes, untrusting and unsure. He froze, clearly aghast at the sight of it. “Is that a d-dragon? D-does it breathe f-fire?!” Something seemed to have triggered in him, as if the creature was twice his size. Sanke focused back onto him, and attempted to reassure him. “No, it doesn’t. I-its power doesn’t lie in fire breath, but instead it can use telepathy to c-communicate with others. It won’t harm you… unless you tried to hurt me, of course.” Cole insinuated relief, glad it wasn’t a threat to him. “...Okay...”

A low growl resounded, and Sanke’s cheeks were dusted pink. Shortly after, another grumble resonated. Cole was quick to comment, “I guess we can all agree we’re pretty hungry,” he added a quiet chuckle after, and then a moment of silence. “Want to head back into town and grab something to eat..?” Hesitantly Sanke nodded, not too fond with the idea of having to interact with other viscets, but he was hungry after all. The dragon hovered back over into its lantern, and Cole led the way back, following the smooth stone path with Sanke trailing behind.

As they arrived back in town, they immediately noticed just how crowded and lively it already was as compared to when they left. The sky was slowly but surely darkening into a deep purplish—blue hue, and the lanterns and lights were vibrantly glowing in the night. Viscets were practically filling the street like a river, voices like a low roar. “T-this is quite a lot of people,” Sanke nervously pointed out, almost hiding behind Cole. “U-uhm…” Cole also seems intimidated by the vast amount of others travelling through town. “Wait, there’s a way over there we can go through,” he nodded towards a way through some buildings where there seemed to be significantly less viscets. They worked their way over to it, and passed through the group of buildings without much trouble.

“There’s a great stand that you can get some potstickers at,” Cole paused to think, “that stand usually doesn’t have a lot of viscets at it, surprisingly.” Sanke shrugged, really just anywhere with no people was fine with them. “Sure.”

They both arrived at the stand, clearly labelled “POTSTICKERS.” There was only really two or three viscets around, munching on their own various foods and chatting with each other. Cole swallowed his anxiety and approached the viscet running the stand—a rather short, plain brown female. She was busy cleaning a dish, too busy to notice them walk up until Cole spoke. “Hello, can we get two orders of potstickers?” She immediately looked up, clearly embarassed, “o-of course! Just one minute.” She disappeared behind the counter, and there was some sounds of small dishes clinking together. Cole turned his attention back to Sanke, “so, you never really got to answer me earlier. What do you do out in that forest by yourself? Doesn’t it get boring living alone like that?” An almost inaudible growl correct him, “sorry, almost all by yourself?”

“Well,” they took a moment to think, “really i just like to watch the koi swimming in this pond i live at. And sometimes,” their voice lowered significantly, “i like to wander town at night when there’s no one around. That’s why people tend to react much like you. They don’t always see me around during the day, so no one really knows me.” They were quiet for a moment as the viscet stood straight up again, holding two containers of potstickers and sauce. “Here you both go—have a great night!” “Thank you,” Cole responded, and he and Sanke took the food and went off to a table on the side. They both didn’t hesitate to begin eating, satisfying their hunger. Sanke stopped dead, though, when a familiar small figure floated over and stole one of their potstickers and eating it. “H-hey!” They chastised, “c’mon, you’ve been risking getting found out all day, we really can’t be doing this.” With a grumble, it slithered back over into its lantern and hid again.

After finishing their meal, they pondered what exactly to do next. By now, the sun had fully set and the light night chill had set in. Stars were beginning to appear simultaneously around the sky. “Wait,” Sanke looked startled, “they’re about to start the f-fireworks!” Cole’s eyes widened at the mention of ‘fire’— “we need to beat the crowd.” They both swiftly got up, throwing away their trash, and beginning to head towards the middle of town. “We have to go through the middle, or—” Cole was cut off as a loud BOOM resounded, startling both of them. Following suit was a hoard of viscets, stampeding towards the fireworks—and right towards them. “This way!” Cole shouted and dashed in a different direction, perpendicular to where they were originally heading. Sanke tried to follow as quickly as they could, however the crowd caught up to them and they were inevitably pushed and shoved around. Sanke managed to make it across without getting caught up in the crowd. They tailed Cole as closely as they could, through some buildings and away from the stampedes of viscets rushing to get to the fireworks.

“I don’t know what we really can do. There’s too many viscets around, it’ll be impossible to go anywhere.” Cole sighed, pondering where exactly they could go next. “Wait,” he perked up, “actually, i think there’s a place we can go if we make it past another crowd.” He began towards another part of the city, Sanke trailing behind him as quickly as they could. They both pushed through more crowds, occasionally getting bumped here or there, but making it through unscratched. Sanke attempted to keep himself together, the anxiety slowly growing, and his stomach tying up in knots. There’s too many people here, I can’t stand it anymore... They panicked, now riddled with it. At this rate I’ll have a panic attack, Sanke’s breathing was now rapid, not only from sprinting so much but from terror. Just when he thought he couldn’t take it anymore, they skid to a halt in a clearing. It was another part of town that reaches into the forest, a stretch of grass and then more trees on the outskirts. Both viscets panted to catch their breath, exhausted. “We’re finally out of there,” Cole remarked with relief, and Sanke merely nodded to save their breath.

“This way,” Cole trudged onward after a few moments, with Sanke trailing behind him again. They wandered through the forest path, deep thicket on either side and the moon fully blocked out from the dense tree leaves. Suddenly, they reached another clearing, but this time larger and far less disturbed. The grass was longer; wilder; the pale moonlight filled the area, gently illuminating it. Fireflies were seen all around, floating along like they always do. Cole padded over to the center and flopped down, while Sanke took it all in. I’ve never seen this place before, the familiar little voice in their head echoed. How did he know this was here? They mentally shrugged and sat down next to Cole, looking up towards the night sky. So many stars twinkled up above, colors of distant galaxies painting the sky. A distant booming sound startled them out of their trance, only for them to relax again after realizing it was a firework. It’s significantly quieter over here. It’s nice. Sanke gently smiled, watching more of them go off; blues, reds, and greens lit up the sky, blocking out the stars.

Maybe it isn’t so bad.

Personality... (358/400)

Sanke is an awkward and socially anxious viscet, preferring to be alone. They frighten easily in the presence of loud noises and crowded areas, so they are often found off to the side or just anywhere else, really. They always keep their companion, Abaven, with them to ensure they are watched and don’t get into too much trouble in a situation. Sanke has never really been one for relationships, but who knows, maybe that could change? Despite being named after a type of koi, they actually despise swimming as when they were younger they were forced to swim a lot by their parents, and ended up only hating it later on.
Sanke chose to live in the forest on the outskirts of the small village as it’s the most unpopular route into the town, as well as the least disturbed but most hidden. This way they live in peace and tranquility, next to a little pond full of koi fish and other various miniature plants. The area is very comforting and familiar to them, reminding them of when things had been much simpler in their younger days. Back when they were younger, they had been more extroverted, happy with life and in the company of many friends. But some turned on them, making fun of them and causing them to become extremely self-conscious and fret about everything they did; like one step out of place would ruin them. Sanke had been that way for years, becoming an almost husk of what they had been; but when Cole came along, they began to open up a little more. It took a lot of work, but someday Sanke will be better. You shouldn’t let them get to you for so long. Abaven’s voice echoed throughout their mind. Their opinions shouldn’t affect you. You need to just be the best you can be, not what they want. Hope flowed throughout Sanke’s heart and soul; it’s best to not live in the past. I will be better. Better than them, and i will be the best i can be, no matter what they think.
