Re-Adopt <3 [winner page 6!]

Postby Birdy » Tue Jan 17, 2017 6:52 am

Hello all! I'm putting my boy Winston up for readopt, as I've been struggling to connect with him. My worry is that he'll simply collect dust with me, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to find him a better home through a re-adopt. You may change his age, name, gender, past, occupation, etc. Consider him a blank slate. There are no restrictions; anyone can enter. c:

This will be an unlimited impress me, as I'd like for you to show me whatever you'd like. This can include (but is not limited to):
- Their past/present/future, and how it's all affected their character
- Their relationships as well as their dynamics
- Their goals/aspirations and accomplishments
- Quirks/facts/favorites (color/food/etc.)
- Anything else you'd like to share about their character
- Bonus points: how did they get their scarf and what does it mean to them?

Please note: art is definitely a plus, but your writing is equally important to me. Do not feel as though you need art to win.

The end date is February 8th, 6:59pm EST

Misfortune of Mice

Postby evil. » Tue Jan 17, 2017 7:00 am

male - 23 - best selling author

╒════════════════════════════════════════════════╕

xxxImage

Ellis Pallant took the world by storm with his novel that
became a New York Times Best Seller over night. Pallant's first
and only novel, Misfortune of Mice, takes place on the
streets of Los Angeles and chronicles the life of a young girl
trying to survive on nothing. The novel focuses on the daily
life of Sophia Highland, a girl on the streets with only an
elderly blind woman to call a friend, and the struggles of
comprehending the evils she sees around her every day.
Ellis Pallant writes in a way that truly makes it dawn on
the reader how terrifying daily life for someone on the
streets can be, and keeps them on the edge of their seats
until the final word. The book ends on an open-ended note,
leaving readers to ponder the fate of Sophia, and leaving everyone
wondering if a sequel is in the works.
However, Pallant seems to have dropped off the face of the
earth in recent months. Despite everyone wanting more of
the young author, he's cancelled book signings and interviews,
he hasn't replied to fan mail, he hasn't been active on any
known social media in months, and he certainly hasn't written
anymore novels.
So, where is he? Well, rumor has it that Ellis Pallant has moved
from his home on the west coast to the east coast, New York
City, New York to be exact. There have been a few sightings
of him in the city, but none have been confirmed or denied
since they have come out. Could Pallant be searching for
inspiration for another novel? Could he be looking for a
fresh start? Or is it all just a hoax?
With the whole world asking where Pallant is, how could he
remain in hiding?

╘════════════════════════════════════════════════╛

ImagexxxEllis tried his hardest to stay away from any
magazine that had his name in bold letters on the front page. However,
this specific copy caught his eye, because it put itself out
there as if no one had heard from him in years, Ellis Pallant:
Where is He Now? What a joke. Ellis' book had been published
almost a year ago and he had only been MIA for about two
months, even still there were already speculations about
where he was hiding.
Truth be told, Ellis hadn't been able to find the inspiration or
motivation to write another novel. He had written, but it wasn't
anything to send to his publisher, and it definitely didn't match
up to Misfortune of Mice. The writer's block had gotten so bad at
one point that Ellis had considered hurling his typewriter he
used to write his novels out the window of his fifth story
apartment.
Honestly, the magazine had been right.
He had gone to NYC for inspiration, but so far he hadn't seen much
of the city besides what he could spot from the windows in his
apartment. With no friends to go out on the town with, night life
in the city seemed equally as dreary as it did horrifying.

However,he did hit the bar scene once or twice in his month or so of living
there, but only on particularly stressful nights and by the night's
end anyone he had met couldn't prove their story because they
were under the influence.
What the gossip magazine article hadn't figured out was why Ellis
cancelled his book signings and interviews. The reason had to do
with an old fear lingered in his bones; he had read Stephen King's
Misery as a preteen and thinking back on it now sent a chill down
his spine. It seemed like all too much of a reality for him now,
a crazy super fan demanding another book out of him. As Misfortune
of Mice swept the nation, his fear grew. This fear caused Ellis to go
from actively communicating with fans, answering a few questions
and being overall friendly to being a shut-in who no longer uses social
media that anyone knows about. Ellis still appreciates his fans but
now its more from a distance.

Image
(NOTE: this interview takes place after his book just became a best seller, before he disappeared from the public eye)

So, Ellis Pallant, how does it feel to become a New York Times Best Seller?
"Well, I'm going to be completely honest with you, it's kind of terrifying; anytime I tell someone my name now they seem to know it. I'm not sure if that sounds like bragging, it isn't meant to."

It's terrifying? How could that be?
"Well, the attention itself isn't so scary so much as what the attention could bring my way. I don't know, it seems like if more people know you then in turn more dangerous people know you."

You sound pretty paranoid, Ellis! Are you speaking from experience?
"Haha! No, nothing like that, but I've seen enough horror movies and read enough books to have a bit of paranoia hanging around."

Ah... I see. Speaking of books, you ended yours on quite an open-end.
"Oh, yeah... There's mixed opinions about how I ended the novel, but all in all it seems positive except I get a lot of quiestions about after the book ends."

Any exclusive information for us about Sophia's fate?
"Well, I can't give too much away, I have a few ideas up my sleeve. I will say that she will face more tradgedies before things start to look up."

Morbid.
"Realistic, especially given the setting of the novel."

I suppose you're right. So, how did you get the inspiration for your book?
"Uh.. Well, some aspects are based on my own personal experiences from the time between high school and writing my novel, but I won't go into detail."

The book is personal to you, then?
"Haha, you could say that again. Not only is the book itself my baby, but some parts are highly inspired by my real life."

What is your favorite book?
"Fahrenheit 451 holds a special place in my heart. Definitely my favorite!"

And for our final question: a lot of people are wondering, what's with the scarf?
"Haha! I was wondering when someone would ask me this! I got this from a friend of mine in that time period between high school and writing my novel that I was talking about, she saved up for quite awhile to get it for me. She saw it in a shop somewhere, knew I liked ghosts, and knew I needed to keep warm. Gosh, it's probably my favorite thing that I own. It means so much because both of us had so little at the time, and she still thought of me. That's the short version of the story, haha. Sadly, I've lost contact with her, but hopefully I can find her and pay her back for everything she did for me back then."

Really? Amazing! In which case, I have one more question. What does the scarf mean to you?
"Oh.. Uh... It means that even at your lowest, someone out there loves you. It means that you can get out of bad situations, even if they seem dire. Overall, it means hope.

Wow, you're something of an inspiration. But that's all the time we have. Thank you for the interview!
"Thank you for having me, it's been a pleasure!"

(just a snippet of the chapter, not the full thing)

It seemed unfathomable to Sophia how an elderly blind person like Ms. Charlotte could be out on streets this mean. When she had pointed this out to the old woman, Ms. Charlotte had retorted that it was equally, if not more, unfathomable that a scrawny teenage girl was out on the streets this mean. While she didn't agree with what the old woman had said, given that she wasn't disabled herself, she held her tongue. She had come to learn that Ms. Charlotte was an opinionated, stuck in her ways type of woman, and there was no point in arguing with her. As she lead the woman down the street, she struck up a conversation on another note.
"Neither of us should be out here, it's too mean and scary for the both of us," the statement, although meant to strike a conversation, was delivered as if she was only talking to herself. Ms. Charlotte smiled, nodding her head in a knowing way that almost made Sophia feel like she had heard the statement before. Elderly women, in Sophia's experience, did that often. This one did that especially more often than any other elderly women that she had met. She seemed to know everything before you ever said it, and it was absolutely infuriating.
"No one should be out here, sugar. Nobody deserves this life we're living, but we're living it. Might as well make the best out of what we've got," Ms. Charlotte said, her voice was firm but pleasant in a way that was a bit condesending, and her statement left no room for further discussion. It never failed to annoy the young girl that an old woman who had spent the last twenty years of her life standing on sidewalks holding signs that said "please help - BLIND" could be perpetually more optimistic than her. At the thought of her only friend spending so much time without a home, she felt a spark of anger rising in her. The thought of it never failed to make her angry. Twenty years! Twenty long years and nothing has changed! Ms. Charlotte must have felt the change in Sophia because she stopped in her tracks and felt around to grab both of the girl's hands. Sophia didn't fight the attention but rather accepted it as something she wanted and needed at the moment. She huffed and stared into the old woman's face as she waited for Sophia to calm down enough to explain herself.
"Why has no one done anything to help the likes of us?" Her words flew from her mouth at top speed, and she didn't stop there. "Why are you still out here, a disabled woman, after twenty years? Something could surely be done!" Her breathing was heavy and she slowed her pace. She looked sadly into the face of the old woman, already smiling knowingly at her.
"In this world, we're as small as mice. The misfortune of mice is none of their concern."

Once an outgoing and friendly young author, Ellis Pallant has crawled back into his shell. He's become quite a bit of a hermit, only leaving his apartment out of necessity or cabin fever. However, he's still a social creature, often frequenting chat rooms and such under fake names to avoid recognition. Ellis is by no means shy; he is a paranoid twenty-something, anywhere from being a hypochondriac to thinking that something like Misery will happen to him now that his book is a Best Seller. The paranoia, however, hasn't kept him from revealing his identity to a select few that he has gotten close to online.
Ellis is often accused of being ungrateful because of his cancelled book signings and unanswered messages from fans, but they couldn't be farther off the mark. Ellis is extremely grateful, coming from the streets in his teen years it seems almost impossible to him that he would have come this far, but his aforementioned paranoia keeps him from showing his fans just how grateful he is for all of them. Ellis is also extremely clumsy, often tripping over nothing or getting his scarf caught in closing doors, the embarrassment that comes with situations such as these is another thing keeping him from meeting with his fans.

Image

Ellis grew up on the lower class side of Los Angeles, witnessing crime and heartache from a very young age. He lost his mother at the age of three to a mishap between street gangs. He grew up the rest of his years under the reign of an unforgiving and unsupportive father. He studied as much as he could to become as smart as he could, believing if he could get smart he could get out. By the time he turned 14, he had so many issues at home with his father he decided to runaway.
Ellis, to this day, isn't sure if his choice was a mistake. The following years, from 14-21, turned out to be some of the worst years of his life. He lived homeless, on the streets, and in fear of what was to come of him. He had one friend, a woman who later came to shape the character of Ms. Charlotte in Misfortune of Mice, and she was the world to him. She saved up enough to buy him the scarf, which he still wears everyday. However, one day after he dropped his manuscript off at his future publisher, he couldn't seem to find her anywhere when he returned. As he grew more and more popular, he had to leave the streets and his friend behind. He still believes that she is alive and his main goal is to find her one day and give her everything he can.

when they were young, her grandmother passed away, she was attatched to her, but she got over her, at the momnent she lives in a lovely home, with a lovely husband and is awaiting children, she is planning to work at a childrens hospital because she feels bad for the sick children and their parents,

she has a good relationship with everyone she meets as she is very likeable, her parents often buy her presents despite her telling them to stop spoiling her.

as i said earlier, she looks forward to a spot in the childrens hospital, she has previously worked training police dogs.

she loves orange and brown, autumn and is a vegetarian. she thinks eating meat is wrong and has belived this her whole life.

Not really

she got her scarf from her grandmother when she died, she will never be seen not wearing it.

Fauna

Postby CXIV » Tue Jan 17, 2017 7:03 am

x→ Username ;; oxy.

x→ Name ;; Fauna

x→ Gender ;; Female
xxx↪ Pronouns ;; She/Her

x→ Age ;; 16

x→ Occupation ;; High school student
xxx↪ Occupation in-depth ;; As a high school student, Fauna studies math, English, science, and history for academics, and for her electives, she has art. The reason why she has art is just so she can draw the paranormal things she either thinks about or thinks she sees. She is a C student, which is disappointing in her mother's eyes.

x→ Personality ;; Fauna very adventurous and curious, sometimes going to great lengths just to see something. However, with this, comes her concern about danger. She doesn't care if what she does puts herself or others in danger, no matter how close she is to them. She always acts before she thinks, which leads to very questionable situations that would normally strike social anxiety into others. She is very social, yet she goes on forever about something, which causes her to be known as the nerd.

x→ Backstory ;; As a child, Fauna has always been interested in the paranormal. She liked the idea that there was always something out there. It didn't matter what it was, she just was always interested. Maybe it came from the fact that her father told her so many myths and stories, that she believed they were real. He never told her that they were fake, because she was so interested. Every day, Fauna would either write or doodle a little creature that either her father told her about or that she thought of. She thought she saw a ghost one time back when she was 9 in the trees. She went to chase after it, but the white blur vanished. When she saw her father later that day, she ran up to him. "Dad, Dad! Guess what!?" She asked him. "What is it, sweetie?" Her father replied. "I think I saw one of the ghosts you told me about! It was white and had black eyes that-" She was saying before her mother interupted her. "Fauna, you know that isn't real!" She said harshly. Fauna felt her world break right there. "W-What!? Of course it's real, Dad tells me it's real!" Her mother sighed and shook her head. "When will you wake up, Fauna? You're doing poorly in school, and all you care about are you mindless fantasies... Won't you ever quit?" After that day, Fauna just was more interested. She would always tell her dad about all the experiences she had and the things she thought of, whether it was when she was awake or asleep.
xxx↪ How she got her scarf;; On her fifteenth birthday, Fauna had received a gift from her father. It had ghost wrapping paper on a black box. She teared through the wrapping paper and open the box. Inside was a little pin that said "Paranormal? It's just regular normal!" and an orange scarf with white ghosts on it. She went to tell her father thank you when she found a note inside the box. "My dear Fauna, I am sorry I couldn't be here for your birthday. I left you these gifts in memory of me, as I have to go somewhere. Where I am going isn't any concern to you, but, if it is before noon you can try and see me at the airport before I go. Love, you Father." When Fauna read that, she began to cry. But, she realized she could visit her dad one last time. She wrapped the scarf around her neck and put the small pin on it, then ran to the kitchen. The clock said it was 10 am. "I gotta go, Mom!" She shouted as she ran out the door, going as fast as she possibly could. She managed to get to the airport in thirty minutes, gasping for breath at this point. When she burst through the doors, she quickly found a security guard. "Sir.... Can I.... Go to gate... 12? My father... is... there..." She said, between breaths. The security guard narrowed his eyes. "Fine, but just this once. I'll take you through security really quick, okay? But, unless you have a ticket, you are not allowed to fly." He said. He then lead Fauna through security and to the gate. She spotted her father and ran to him. "Dad!" She said, jumping on top of him. "Please, don't go..." She said, as she hugged him. "Fauna, I know that you don't want me to go- I don't want to either. But, I have to. You have my phone number, right? You can always call me. And that scarf I gave you-" He said, not realizing she was wearing the scarf until now. "Oh, you're wearing it! It looks great on you." Then, the plane for Fauna's father landed. "I have to go. Be good, alright? You're mother would expect no less." He said, getting up and grabbed his lugage. "Bye Fauna, I love you!" He said. Fauna started to cry. "N-No.." The security guard from earlier grabbed her paw. "Come on, miss, it's time for you to go back home." He said, leading her to the entrance. She was crying as she walked back home. When she entered the door, her mother was glaring at her. "From this point on, Fauna, no more of your paranormal nonsense unless you can do better in school. You have Fs in all of your classes. How do you expect to graduate?" She asked. Fauna sighed and walked to her room. She closed the door behind her on flopped onto her bed. She wrapped the scarf around her. "I won't let you down, Dad... I'll become the best paranormal discoverer ever.."
