favorite coffee;;
Duncan's favorite coffee is actually less of a coffee and more of a mix of French vanilla cappuccino coffee and hot chocolate. He doesn't go to big name coffee houses in order to get it, he simply makes it himself. He starts out by putting 2 packets of hot chocolate mix into his mug and then adding a scoop or two of the French vanilla cappuccino powder mix that he buys in with it, then he adds hot water and stirs. He loves the taste of this concoction of his as the two flavors really complement each other (but then chocolate and vanilla always do) quite nicely and make for a really nice flavor, also because it was his "breakthrough coffee," the one that got him into coffee in the first place. He originally didn’t like coffee at all until a camping trip with his family where he decided to experiment with his dad’s French vanilla cappuccino coffee mix and add it to his hot cocoa. After that, he’d never do his hot chocolate any other way if there was any of that coffee mix available.

Duncan Aarden is a budding author who writes mystery novels (although he has tried his paw at just about every genre there is), his novel writing keeps him up late in addition to his job as a private school teacher, hence his constant appearance of being run down and just plain dead tired. Coffee is pretty much what he runs on, other than whatever little sleep he does get, it's also what keeps him warm on his way to work. Quite frankly, he strongly dislikes the school that he works at due to the politics and all going on among the staff, as well as the location, which is almost always cold and snowy. He would love nothing more than to leave the school and go to some other school where there are more colors than just white on the ground, but he needs a job to keep the bills paid until he's a published author. That's about the only thing keeping him there, other than his students, whom he loves.
He also loves paper clips because they help him keep his world organized, especially with all the students that he has and all the papers that he has to print out for them. He will literally never pass up an opportunity to rescue one from the ground when he's walking around, especially if they're his favorite kind of paper clips: the ones that have colors or patterns on them. These are his particular favorites because they help him to keep things even more organized by color coding everything. His life would be an absolute mess if it weren't for paperclips. He also loves it when his students give him paperclip chain necklaces that they make themselves and will wear them for the whole day on which he receives them.
