I. his mother

felix doesn't really remember a whole lot about his mother. he remembers some small things (gentle paws holding him close as he sleeps, a soft voice singing him to sleep) and some not so small things (- that same voice raised in anger at his father, both parents screaming at each other from behind a closed door). he knows that she left him and his father when he was very young, and that he's never heard of her since. he's not really sure how he feels about her, really. it's a very sensitive subject for him, and he doesn't like it to be brought up.

when he was younger, felix felt the loss of his mother deeply. he became greatly withdrawn, stopped interacting with his friends, and rejected the advances of new ones. he was desperate to avoid being abandoned by someone he cared deeply about and took great pains to prevent new bonds from forming. his father, watching his son break all his friendships one by one, finally sat felix down and had a long conversation with him. it wasn't easy for either of them, especially since his father was forced to take on a second job to support them, but felix eventually began to open up again. today, he has progressed greatly, but he tends to avoid forming deep relationships while he clings to the ones he has.

II. his father

felix feels that, of all the people in his life, he probably owes the most to his father. he was the one who gently encouraged felix to open up to people again after his mother left, and he continued to be a positive influence on him all his life. despite working double-time to cover the costs in his household, his father always found enough time to be there for his son when he needed it. he helped felix with his homework every night, his science projects for the school fair, and gave felix tips when he went on his first date. he took time off from work to go to felix's high school graduation ceremony and supported felix when he decided to major in music.

his health started to decline while felix was in his third year of college. he'd been born with severe asthma which he had kept under control for the most part, but it took a toll on his health. the extra work hours he'd put in to support the two of them hadn't helped much either. just months before felix was to graduate, his father died in his bed. felix was right there with him when he took his last breath, and his father's only regret was that he wouldn't be there for felix's college graduation. after he died, felix finished college and graduated with honors.

felix's father was always a supporting figure who just wanted to see felix succeed. he'd encouraged felix in everything he'd done, and always had faith in his ability to accomplish anything he set his mind to. he had been the comforting person felix had needed in the dark time after his mother left and had continued to provide that strength through the rest of his life.

III. his friend

after his father died, felix went into a slump. he'd finished college with high scores and his degree, but he had trouble finding and holding down a job. after he went through three jobs in quick succession, felix met aisake. he'd been jogging home from the grocery when, as per felix's usual luck, a black cat ran right under his feet. he'd grumbled a bit, climbed to his feet, and forgot about it, but later that day he was surprised to hear his doorbell ringing. he opened it and came face to face with an apologetic-looking kalon with a black cat sprawled across his shoulders and another in his arms. he introduced himself as aisake and explained that his cat had tripped felix up earlier in the day, felix had dropped his phone, and aisake was very sorry for his little demon's behavior. "Even though it was really funny," aisake had grinned, shoving felix's cracked phone into his hands.

that had been the start of what was for felix a very unusual friendship. felix had been polite and helpful but detached, while aisake had not been especially polite or helpful. he hadn't been especially detached, either. from then on out, aisake was determined to make friends with felix. aisake had no concept of such trivial things as personal boundaries, so felix would often find himself being followed around by a bored teenager fresh out of school for the summer. felix, who normally would never allow himself to form friendships so quickly, was amused by aisake's antics, and their friendship was cemented when aisake helped felix land a job in a bookstore-café. now, time spent together mostly consists of doing dumb things (dropping soda cans on top of trains, climbing on random buildings) or daring each other to do dumb things (doing the chicken dance on the roof of aisake's school was a very memorable incident. they ended up putting it in the yearbook).

felix's friendship with aisake has mostly just lowered his capacity for shame and self-preservation, but it has also boosted his self-confidence and willingness to make friends. he could stand to have a few more friends, but a friend like aisake is definitely a good start. [905/1000]

he actually isn't much of a people person, though it's hard to tell from the way he acts. he'd much rather curl up behind the desk of the bookstore-café he works at and read a good book he snagged off the shelves, but there are people in trouble out there, and felix is nothing if not sympathetic. he volunteers regularly; animal shelters, senior centers, free piano tutoring, he's done it all. it's pretty common to see him working himself into the ground, just trying to help people out.

one of his biggest flaws is his tendency to hold grudges. it's not easy to work your way onto his blacklist- an entire life full of bad luck has done wonders for his patience- but when you do, he'll probably never forgive you or forget what you did. this is very frustrating for others, when a fault forgotten years ago is constantly brought up again and again. he can be rather vicious with his words when he feels that he has been deeply wronged, and won't hesitate to let you know exactly how he feels about it.

felix is a rather passive kalon. he'll take charge to get things done when it's something he really cares about, but for the most part he's perfectly willing to let someone else direct things. he doesn't usually challenge authority and tends to mind his own business more often than not, occasionally a little too much. one of the reasons why he loves his job so much is because he doesn't have any coworkers and so doesn't have to deal with the complex relations between them. felix is not very good at working with people since he usually either does his own thing or tries to do everything himself. However it is a requirement that there is both a positive and a negative side! c: Feel free to mix it into one character.

Thank you, this is very helpful! On another note, would you mind explaining what the "species rules" is? I have a AWD character that I'd like to incorporate into Ciqala's story, but I'm not sure if they follow the rules (I'm new to Kalons, so I'm sorry if this is an obvious question ;u;)

Feral - positive
best friend - alive
Feral, while not a inspiration to the kalon, has played a big part in her life as a paleontologist, as he has helped her along in that path, and provided her with some of the rarer, bigger fossils that she has obtained. He encourages her to continue with her work, and keep going forward - and to never give up, which she was at that point a while ago. She listened to his alive, and despite the two being around the same age he seems a lot wiser, due to his travels so he is worth listening to and taking some advice from when it comes down to it. She will always make sure to bring concerns to him, to which he usually assures her that she is ok, or whatever she is doing is surely the right thing to do.

Younger Brother - negative
family member - unknown
As a kit, with a slightly younger brother, they didn't have...exactly the best relationship. As with all siblings, they did have their quarrels - more one-sided, with her brother teasing her about her stutter and bringing her self esteem down, teasing her as much as he could, it seemed. And she took these hits hard - especially when it came to her dream of becoming a paleontologist. He believed she couldn't do it, and so stated it - again and again and again...she never got a break, she couldn't mention it around the younger kalon, but he always brought it up...perhaps this did make her stronger, but as she grew it had a terrible effect on how she reacted to the stimulation of noises, and made her much more startled.

Ross Geller - positive
inspiration - fictional character
Being from the show 'Friends', the two don't have a lot in common - Ross being fictional and Hollow not, but they do share professions, both of them being paleontologists. She always watched this as a kit, and while Ross' profession wasn't out there in the show and seen too often, if at all, this was when she aspired to be a paleontologist, and seeing that someone else was - even if it wasn't exactly a real, other kalon - it was the next best thing she had. After all the events that have happened in the show, although as stated, it was not real, and all planned and written out, whatever happened to Hollow, she believed that there was worst. When she wanted to give up and couldn't go to Feral, Ross' words as a character were the next best thing.

Charles Darwin - positive
inspiration - deceased
The great biologist with a great theory of evolution...while he has been studied by many, and that they don't study the same things...Hollow can't help but hold deep respect for the biologist. The way his theories flow and link together, she can't help but be captured, and wonder what it might've been like if she had of ever actually met Charles Darwin in the real flesh and blood. She doesn't know much about what evolution means yet, but it runs down the same path as paleontology does, at certain points - as it is believed that some animals today evolved from dinosaurs, the fossils and bones that Hollow looks at. She loves to study his work, when she has the time of course.

Baron’s mother is his biggest support, encouraging him to pursue acting when he showed interest and potential at a young age. She was an actress herself and the one who gave him the idea- she was his role model and he wanted to be just like her when he grew up. He remembers rehearsing with her as his sole audience member, messing up on occasion and looking up to see her encouraging smile, then grinning back and trying again. She raised him as a single parent and, though Baron never knew his father, he’s always felt that she loved him enough for two parents. She’s gentle and caring, and he couldn’t have asked for a better childhood. Of all his adoring fans, she’s been his number one fan since the start.



Fenway - friend - positive and negative
One wouldn’t expect Baron and Fenway to be friends. The first time they spoke, there was a smirk, a curious tilt of the head, and a simple “You’re not so bad, eh?” It was just Baron’s luck that he’d found himself covering for a thief and only realizing it when it was too late. The next time they met was a casual exchange in the park; Baron wouldn’t even have know it was the same guy if he didn’t have such an unmistakeable appearance. Fenway is perhaps not the best influence- he tends to drag Baron into his heists and whatever less-than-legal things he gets into- but Baron really feels like he can loosen up and be himself around him.

Hitch - friend - positive
Baron bumped into Hitch on one of his nights out, when he was simply being himself and not the big movie star. The two easily got along, and Hitch launched into tales of his travels around the world. Since Hitch has been so many places and met so many people, Baron can consult him when he has to play a new part; Hitch is a lot of help with accents and local color. He also gives Baron a different perspective on others' experiences. Since Hitch moves around so much, they don’t get to spend time together but they often talk on the phone or through letters (it’s old fashioned, but Hitch loves sending and receiving mail and Baron happily obliges).

the dog days | xXx
Mickey's beloved dogs, Ulysses and Paulie, act as the mascots for his shop. Because he's otherwise the only one working there, the company offered by his "puppies" is much needed. Having raised the two together from their puppy stage, Mickey has faced some of his toughest tests; toilet training the puppies was a long and frustrating process, but during that time, he produced some of the most beautiful pendants of his career. The dogs have helped him to learn patience and appreciation, as well as providing "guard dog" services for his shop. Of course, they don't do much guarding; the dogs enthusiastically greet anyone who comes in. Mickey has made each of them a small filigree charm to accompany their nametags on their collars, and when potential customers see these, they often request one of their own. Mickey has his dogs to thank for a large part of his success, as these have become his best-selling product.

FENCING TEAM

As a young teen, Mickey joined a fencing club per request of his parents. They wanted him to pick up a sport instead of sitting around with his sketchbooks. So, already starting off on a bad note, Mickey had little patience spared for the other kids in his class. During the first bout, Mickey managed to forget the instructions they had been given only a few minutes earlier and making a fool of himself. His pride took such a blow from such a minor event that he couldn't stop thinking about it for the rest of the day. He quit fencing after the first session, too embarrassed to continue even though nobody remembered after ten minutes. His pride and ego took a hit, and fencing was, in his mind, to blame.

Relationships:

Max
As adventurous as Ossa is, he tries to stay on
the safe side of things and not to put himself in
any sort ofprediciment, thought it doesn't always
work. The best example of this was the day he
managed to get himself sucked out into the ocean
while digging through a tide pool. He's not the
best swimmer, and it didn't take long for others
to let the nearest lifeguard know. That lifeguard
was Maximillian, or Max. The larger Kalon
rescued Ossa with ease, and despite having done
his job, stayed with him until he had calmed down,
and even brought him food and water. The two
soon became friends, and even though they have
only known each other for a few months, they
are as close as close can be.

Des
Ossa was very surprised to learn that Max actually had a mate,
a white Kalon by the name of Des. Although he wasn't
overly social, the two got along well enough. As it turned out,
both of them had several things in common, such as being
unemployed and having the horrible habit of being late. Des
was very lazy, and it would take Max an additional hour or two
in order to get Des outside, which in turn lead to his tardiness.
They both found it easy to talk to one another, and would
sometimes stay up all night gossiping and blabbering on and
on while Max would go to sleep early in order to make it
to work on time.

Sophi
Because Ossa is prone to being late to nearly everything, he's learned to cut a few corners in order to shorten his travel distance. And by corners, it means roads. He is notorious for j walking, and though he doesn't seem to view it like a problem, Detective Sophie sure does. She handles a wide array of crimes each and every day but the majority of the minor ones are caused by Ossa. She's constantly having to pause her current case in order to bring him in or write him a ticket, and it's taking its tole on both of them. Sophi views herself as an enforcer of the law, and Ossa views her as a criminal in his little story. If you asked him, he would say that she's taking the time out of her life just to ruin his as he ends up being even later to the event that he was heading to. She views him as a nuisance.
Neither of them tend to get along with the other, and Ossa does his best to avoid her at all costs. If they see each other on a corner, they'll trade a hateful glance before going their own way so long as Ossa doesn't try to cross the road where he's not supposed to.
