*Extendable back scratcher-
A metal back scratcher that begins just a little larger than a pen. As you extend it each 'section' that is extended adds about five inches to the back scratchers length. There is the main section, which you hold, which is covered in rubber. A small hole in the bottom of the rubber with a thick string tied through it so as it can easily be tied around ones wrist, or, in Dina's case, to her tail. The main section is about eight inches in height, with four extra extendable sections. (It can be pushed or pulled, depending on if you want it travel size or extended to back scratcher size). In total, the length of the scratcher is 28 inches. The end of the back scratcher is shaped like a hawks talon. Three toes decorate the end with curved claws perfect for scratching. The middle claw, however is an inch longer than the two toes at its side. The back scratcher is the perfect size for a large viscet to use it to scratch their back. However, aside from the simple back scratching use, the middle claw on the scratcher makes it also very handy to use when she needs to draw maps in the sand for the wounded. Should she deem someone well enough to carry them self through the mist covered forest, she will do her best to draw up a map for them in the sand. She will, however, keep an eye on them until they are safely out of the forest. The whistle she carries with her very handy in case they stroll off the path or go the wrong way. (277 words)
**Bosun Whistle --
The Bosun whistle is absolutely ordinary. A simple golden colored whistle with a black cord which allows her to keep the whistle around her neck. Dina has been mute since the day she was born, unable to produce any of the sounds needed for communication aside from those that only required air, such as a hiss or growl. It was early in her life that she received the Bosun whistle as a gift, a thank you from a friend. It should be noted that she does not use the same calls as are typical for a bosun whistle and more often than not it is only used to call attention, to guide others, or to answer yes or no questions when too busy to actually be face to face with someone. The bosun whistle has become a literal life savor for some, and for others it has become that 'ghostly call' through the mist.
Dina lives on a vicious coast, a place where sunny days are rare, and even rarer still are days where the mist is not covering the perilous rocks that line the coast. The beach itself is often littered with driftwood or pieces of ships, though after a storm bodies can occasionally be found there as well. Dina has made it a duty of hers to guide the men, women, or children from the wreckage and through the forest where she lives, taking them to a safe path outside of the mist where they can find a town not a days worth of travel away. Should the wounded be unable to travel due to injury or weakness then Dina will wait outside the forest until someone is close enough, using the bosun whistle to call their attention and guide them to the wounded. There is one man who has taken note of Dina, and though the two have never met he comes to the edge of the forest every day to see if he hears the call of the whistle indicating that there are people in need of rescue. In return he frequently gifts her with food and sparklers. (353 words)
***waterproof tin with Sparklers ---
Yet another item that doesn't need too much describing. These are average, everyday sparklers, though these are hand made by the man who keeps Dina supplied with them. The sparklers are kept in a plain silver tin so the mist and moisture of the coast do not spoil them. These sparklers have a very practical use, as the darkness of the coast where Dina lives can be increased tenfold by the addition of the mist. It oftentimes becomes hard to see ones own paw in front of their face, let alone a tree a few feet from them or a stump in their way at their feet. Typically the ones she is guiding has been wounded in some way and she desires to keep them as healthy as possible during their travels. The sparklers will be lit and then placed upright in the earth so that they will create a visual marker for the one following Dina. They are also used to mark any dangers in ones path or dropoffs that they should be careful of. Dina has lived on the coast almost all of her life so she could navigate the forest and coast blind, those that wash ashore are not as knowledgeable. (204 words)
****A simple waterproof bag ----
The bag is a very simple brown leather which can be folded several times then tied to ensure the resistance to water. It is about the size of a melon, and is usually kept tied to Dina's tail. It is filled with jerky and peanuts, both of which can help energize a wounded and potentially starving being. The bag also contains a small flask of fresh water. Typically those washed ashore are in dire need of food and water, so Dina always keeps her bag filled. These items are compliments of the man who checks in each day, the supplies coming from him and not Dina herself. (107 words)
