Fencing:
Penelope got into fencing in 7th grade, as a bit of a therapy. She was a nervous child and her parents thought it might help calm her various fears. Penelope was terrified. The room was filled with people, most of them very strong. She learned how to wear the uniform, and the face guard unnerved her. It was weird having her entire head (minus the ears) covered, nothing like a hat or hood. She was afraid of making mistakes in her form, worried she would get yelled at by the instructor. However, the people there were kind, happy to have a new student and patient with her. Sure, there were a few plumies who snickered when Penelope made an obvious mistake, but most were very supportive. As she kept practicing, Penelope started to face her fears, feeling more confident with each match, each loss, and each win. When she lost, she learned, when she won, she reflected on her strong points.

Personality:
Penelope is a plumie of few, but very expressive, words. She rather guarded, and doesn’t like to ask for help, often opting to do things herself unless it is impossible, and rarely tells anyone her own problems. Penelope shies away from anything that would involve her having to explain things or say more then a few words, unless a teacher asks her, then she can grind out a little more. When she does talk, this plumie take a bit of time to select her words to show the most amount of emotion and purpose as possible, without having to say much.
Penelope prefers to be moving and showing how she feels through actions. As a competitive fencer, you can often tell how she’s feeling by how she uses her sword. Sharper, more direct moves may suggest calm or concentration, faster and numerous strikes suggest anger, or slower and more drawn out suggest sadness. Penelope would prefer her emotions to stay out of her work, but she’s still working on it. As for more actions, Penelope has mastered the art of glaring at people until they understand her intent. She uses this mostly for people she dislikes or doesn’t want to talk to. Most of her friends are on the shyer side, draw to her for her calm demeanor, and she has been known to protect them from monologuers, and more aggressive people. She listens to them likes to help them learn to start conversations, as they know she won’t. If they haven’t gotten to that, she’ll just sit with them. To Penelope, that’s the nicest thing she can do for people.

Penelope has a tiny old cat named Pipin who she has had from almost her whole life. The two are quite close, and Penelope considers her a friend rather then a pet. Penelope got Pipin when she started grade school and since then Pipin has always been there for Penelope
