The Gryffin (also spelled Griffin or Griffyn or Griffynn) is a creature from Greek mythology with the head and torso of an eagle and the back end of a lion. It is often described as a very noble animal and only presents its self to those who are worthy (similar to the description of a Gryffindor from Harry Potter... lol I’m a nerd oof). Gryffins are known to be fierce and dangerous to those who threaten them, but are extremely loyal to those they consider friends. They are very similar to they’re mythological cousin, a hippogryph, a creature who is half horse half eagle. Besides their obvious physical differences gryffins are much more reclusive and secretive than their half-equine counterparts. I chose this name for this pony because his beautiful gold color reminded me of the coat color of a lion’s pelt, and the primitive markings on his legs resemble the pattern of eagle legs lol! The shading on his mane looks like eagle feathers thrashing in the wind, and his eyes just remind me of that honed, primitive intelligence I have observed in rescued eagles at the nature center I volunteer at!
