Welcome to the Australian Galloways page! This is a semi-open breed - if you would like to make your own Galloway, check out the Imports page linked above! Please make sure you follow the breed standard and the community rules.
Marking is welcome!
- Australian Galloways are a middle-weight horse breed of mixed warmblood stock originating in Australia. They are hardy, steadfast and capable of a range of different work, particularly in harsh climes, as they have been used traditionally for stock driving and navigation of the tough Australian wilderness. Nowadays they are often used as competition and show horses and are making their way onto the international stage.
A horse can be registered as an Australian Galloway if it meets the following requirements:
- It has a height between 14.0hh and 16.0hh;
- It has at least 50% European warmblood heritage and was bred in Australia, OR it has at least 50% Australian breed heritage, OR it is the foal of a registered Australian Galloway;
- It fits the breed colour standard;
- It is a middle-weight horse or pony (not light or heavy type).
Acceptable warmblood heritages include: Hanoverian, Holsteiner, Oldenburg, Trakhener, Westphalian, Selle Francais, Irish Sport Horse, Glederlander, Cleveland Bay, Belgian Warmblood, Danish Warmblood, and Swedish Warmblood. Any other European warmblood breed or cross is acceptable provided they are middle-weight, the breed originates in Europe, and they are, obviously, of warmblood type.
Acceptable Australian breed heritages include: Australian Stock Horse, Australian Brumby, Waler, Australian Draft Horse, Australian Pony, Australian Riding Pony, and Australian Warmblood.
Australian Galloways are most commonly black, red, brown, bay, grey, or cream, and are solidly coloured with only minor white. However, the registry also accepts the following colours and markings: roan, tobiano, overo, sabino, splashed white of any kind, dominant white of any kind, silver, flaxen, and pangare(**new).
The following colours are not accepted in the breed and will be denied: champagne, dun (including nd1), pearl, mushroom, leopard complex and PATN1, rabicano(**new), and manchado(**new).
Rules
Be respectful to staff and community members.
There is no limit to the amount of Galloways you may own.
Galloways cannot be sold for real currency. They can be gifted or traded for other adoptable characters, virtual website currency, art, pets etc.
If you are selling/gifting a horse, both the new and old owners must post on the horse's page confirming the transfer. Additionally, the new owner should contact the archivist to inform them of the change.
Australian Galloways are a semi-open species, so while you can create your own designs they will need to be inspected and accepted by staff before they can count as registered. Pre-made designs cannot be changed.
Galloways can be stored off-site.
Galloways can be used off-site for things like harpg or roleplay, but the original reference should not be uploaded on other websites except for storage per the above rule. You will need to use a different art piece as a reference image in these cases. For example, if you want to participate in a harpg on DA, you cannot upload the original reference image to DA; you will need to commission or make a new one if you want a reference on that website.
Galloways cannot be owned by users who are not on CS.
Banned users can transfer their adopts out of the breed to new lines.
