constellation // "and so the fire called to the heavens, and a new constellation spread across the sky"constellation story (1000 word limit) //they were called leus, and they were the most gentle and caring beasts to walk the planet. their steaming
breath warmed the air, their sharp hooves pounded the valleys and mountains into shape, and their
sweeping tails that dragged behind them carved paths through forests. they valued every living thing, and
grieved deeply at the death of anything around them. the groaning wind through the trees echo their
distressed cries, the babbling and chuckling stream imitate their cries of joy, the hissing rain reproduces
their soft breathing. they were honored beasts, magnificent to see, and loved by the entire forest. they
had no reason to die. the leus should have had no enemy. but they did.
humans.
as amazing as the leus were, the materials that their large bodies provided were even more so. soft fur
to keep warm at night, strong bones to carve into anything that the hunters desired, meat to feed a single
person for a year. the leus couldn't fight back. how could they? the humans had as much life as anything
else that lived in the forest, they couldn't just be killed. and so the leus were slain, one by one, disappearing
slowly from the world. soon, only one walked the worn paths of the mountains. old and wizened, it was
living in a constant loop of mourning, left alone to watch as the world died around it. soon, even it was gone.
a bonfire was made to roast the beast, and the sky ached to storm and blow it out. but it would do no good,
the leus were all slain. they would never be seen again, would never be remembered. there would never
be something like it ever again. but nature would always remember. the stream remembered their excited
calls, the valleys remembered their worn hoofs, the rain remembered their gentle sighs. they could not
be forgotten. and so the fire called to the heavens, and a new constellation spread across the sky. sparks
flew up to alight the stars, and traced the outline of the leus, so that they may stand watching over their
beloved planet forever. the humans and the animals may move on, but the earth would never forget the
creators of their world.
