“you’re such an ugly kalon, a disgrace to all kalons,”

the little voice in the back of his mind yells out at him, jolting him back into the real world. the little voice has been there all his live, getting stronger and stronger. these thoughts yell out at him every passing second, the little voice convincing him these things are true.

"gone. get lost, you disgusting . . . you don’t even deserve to be called a kalon,”

louder and louder. worse and worse.

when he looked up, he saw another kalon - someone who looks perfect in every single way.

“hey, you have that little voice in your own head too, don’t you?”

she had a smile that was brighter than a thousand stars.

“don’t listen to that voice. you are absolutely perfect in every way. listen to me, the voice will eventually go away - you’re only mishearing yourself,”

misheard. it was just a mishearing, and he was going to be okay.

Libra was enjoying ballet class when all of a sudden she tripped , her tooth got stuck on another kalons tutu, as she tried to get her tooth unstuck she ripped the tutu. The others stared wide eyed, Libra tried to apologize but the whispers had already started. On the way out of the studio the other female kals were gathered in a circle once in a while glancing back at Libra. Then she heard it the one word that had haunted her, all her life....MONSTER. The word numerous other kalons had called her whenever she would walk down the street, the word others would use when she smiled, the word that had caused her so much pain. As she continued to listen in she heard another kal say "There is a monster deep inside waiting to break free". The tears fell like raindrops as Libra walked home. When she returned the studio the other females wouldn't come near Libra . The instructor saw Libra's sadness in her dance and addressed her sympathetically. "What's wrong Libra?" she asked. Libra replied "“i’m a monster deep inside”, filled with fear
but they’re wrong ". Her instructor then said, "Whatever do you mean Libra I see in you a flower awaiting her blossoming and you will blossom". "I will" Libra replied

"Who would ever love such a hideous thing?" The shrill voice of the kalon
cried out, ringing through the hallways. "Why must we try to hide it
from them, why do we pretend to care for them? We should just get rid
of them."

Widgeon's round eyes widened with shock, swelling with sudden emotion
as he quickly spun around from the conservatory door. The words replayed
in his mind as he sprinted blindly down the corridor, letting hot tears
stream down his cheeks.

How could he? Luké, his partner-in-crime, his bestfriend. He was the
most welcoming of all when Widgeon came to the Queenstone Acreage,
when the others merely stared at him with disgust. Luké, the one who
would stand up for him when the others mocked him.

Why would he?

Widgeon felt his tears continue to stream down his cheeks as his voice
rang through his mind. He didn't want to think of it, he couldn't.

But only had he known that it wasn't him he was speaking of,
but infact the kalon that had often tormented Widgeon.

And his best friend,
was merely protecting him.
