prompt: Dreamsicle has always been afraid of the water. He's a very poor swimmer, so it may come as a surprise to you that his favorite animal is a whale. The story goes that, when he was just a wee lamb, Dreamsicle was dreamwalking when he came across the dreamscape of a sleeping sea mammal. It was a humpback whale calf dreaming of the warm, shallow waters spent with his mother.

Now within a dream one isn't held back by inconveniences such as: needing to breathe air. And within dreams we could, say, swim as well as a fish even with awkward gangly legs. These newfound abilities, however, did not cheer up poor Dreamsicle who bleated pitifully for his own mama, sending a cloud of bubbles from his muzzle. He did not like the water dreams!

The dreamer, the male whale calf, took notice of the lamb who was now churning about in the water. He gave a merry call to Dreamsicle. Unlike fully grown whale sounds which are deep and carry for miles, whale calves give what sound like sharp squeaks. It was these high-pitched notes that stole our lamb's attention, momentarily stopping his hullabalooing. He'd never seen the likes of a whale and for a moment his blue eyes watched transfixed as the calf swam effortlessly over to him.

Sensing the lamb was uncomfortable, the calf( easily 15 ft in length) swam under Dreamsicle and gently rose them both upwards to the surface in the same way his mother would hold him up to breathe. Oh, the lamb thought this was a welcome change! He gave a waggle of his little tail and bleated happily. The whale gave more squeaks as if to say no worries. Dreamsicle spent the rest of that dream atop the whale calf as it swam along the surface of the crystal clear waters. He will always remember the lap of the waves off the calf's enormous body. The feeling of misty water sprinkling his wool when the whale would give a jolly exhale through his blowhole. And most of all the delightful squeaks that was the young whale's song.

Dreamsicle would never get over his fear of water, but he did love whales from then on. To him they are kindness, and grace, and they make the most delightful calls you could come across in any dream!

August, as a general rule, derives a great deal of wonder and joy from seeing other animals out and about- it's always a delight to him when he sees a new type of creature reflected in someone's dreams. His favorite, though, will always be owls. In some ways, he thinks they are rather similar to himself and his fellow dreamwalkers- silent (almost) and graceful (most of the time). The graceful night hunters never fail to take his breath away- a carefully kept feather, marbled brown with white spots along the outer edge, is a souvenir from his first ever encounter with one of the creatures (a barred owl, he later learned)- a token left behind, fluttering down from the wing of the bird flying overhead to brush against his nose. August was awestruck, and has loved the creatures ever since.

Sunny quite enjoys ferrets. A common misconception that people have is that they smell- really really bad. Well, from his experience, they don't smell bad at all. Of course, every animal has a distinct smell, and while ferrets have a stronger one compared to most, you still really don't smell it unless you're up close to them. This being said, even if their cage is in the general vicinity, you don't smell that either.

But enough with the smell, right? Why are ferrets his favorite animal? To say the least, they're very interesting critters. He finds himself intrigued by their immense amount of curiosity, dedication to investigate (and take) objects they find interesting, and their overall attitudes. He also noticed that while playing with a ferret, they can get their own type of "zoomies" which consists of cute little alligator rolls, backing up, and overall looking like they're flipping out. It's quite a sight and tends to put a smile on his face every single time.

Ferrets are also extremely smart, which Sunny has also observed. They are easily litter trained, meaning there aren't messes to clean up while they're out and about. If they have to go, they'll go right back in their cage to do their business and then go back to running around when they're done! Besides that, he's observed problem solving skills on the ferrets behalf. If he thinks that a ferret can't get to a particular place, after some trial and error on behalf of the ferret, he'll observe that they find a way to get to the desired place they want to go. Which ties into the dedication that Sunny takes a great liking to.

So overall, several things play into why Sunny loves ferrets and chooses them as his favorite animal. There is not a day that goes by where he regrets his answer and sticks to it wholeheartedly. He even says that ever since coming across ferrets, they're like a spirit animal to him, which makes his answer even more special.
