VERY SORRY this is about to get VERY ramble-y, i love writing about world building stuff like this !!
in the lore of the world of the lily meadow alliance, starclan does not exist, but is instead replaced by a similar concept of the spirits. the cats in the lily meadow alliance all come from vastly different backgrounds, and the specifics of their beliefs may vary widely, but the general idea is the same for most cats. the spirits are most commonly divided into two: the spirits above, cats who have lived their lives and passed on; and the spirits below, cats who have yet to be born and live their lives, or those from the stars above who have earned the right to be reincarnated.

the spirits are able to communicate with the cats of the alliance, and they do so most of the time to guide. most commonly, they are to take the form of a non-feline animal in the world in order to guide cats in the world. the only cats in the alliance who see the spirits face-to-face are the spirits guides, the commander at very specific and few times, and shivering’sea, the alliance’s founder. when these interactions occur, the spirits visit in the cat’s dreams.

the spirits below are the most likely to visit the dreams of the living, as they are unlikely to be someone the living cats already know and therefore are not likely to be biased; it’s not exactly possible to know someone who hasn’t yet begun to live, after all. meanwhile, the spirits above are the most likely to try to visit as a companion animal, most commonly to guide a friend or family member who is still alive.

for the most part, spirits of any kind are not anywhere near all-powerful. not even the spirits below, who are seen as respectable and wise- even more so than the spirits above- come close to it. the spirits are generally seen as being led by higher beings, gods, and these gods are where cats’ beliefs tender to differ the absolute most. not even the spirits themselves could tell you anything about these gods. for the lily meadow alliance, the exact identities of these gods are seen as unimportant. the important part is that they are the ones who watch over the spirits and gave them the duty to watch over the living. the gods sometimes allow a spirit to see a bit of the future, or gift them a sign or prophecy to pass on to the living, but when they do so the spirits are unable to tell the living everything they know- they are only allowed to pass on the exact messages the gods have given to them.

Within Enurian shores, there are as many afterlives as there are ways to die.

Some do go to the stars, yes, although the cats of Enurian do not call them StarClan. Different constellations contain different spirits—there is Enniken, the wanderer, a small patch of stars that bounds from place to place in the night sky, unmoored from the same paths the other stars walk. Those who were troublemakers in life will join their ranks. But then there are also the Guiding Stars, stars whose places eternally remain, fixed in place. No one living can recall how they took up their posts any more. These are the spirits Minnowcatcher worships—as a cartographer and navigator, their solid place in the night sky is invaluable to hir recordkeeping.

Those who die within the confines of the Imbroglio are assumed to join the city eternally. If you decide to descend into the depths of the Imbroglio, it is considered good fortune to bring back any bones you find within, so those lost within the corridors can feel the sun once more.

Some find favor from gods and are cursed to walk the world eternally, a future that some might find fortunate, until their still-living bodies begin to fade from memory.

Others linger in the traditions carried down from paw to paw. Spirits living within weavings, within pottery, breathing again as each descendant learns the craft anew.

Those who die before their life truly began—kittens too young to earn their first name, those who die in particularly tragic accidents—are granted a new life, a new body, to try again. A powerful one, with wings and a serpentine tail and a voice loud enough to drown out the End.

As for those who are lost to the End itself, no one knows what fortune befalls them.

But even the Guiding Stars' light is eaten up by that eternal void.

Prompt: starclan for the cats of isola bella is a make up of their ancestors usually just called as such. they are not all powerful but their are a select few that have special abilities or were granted higher power due to their deeds whilst alive. they also grant an ability to the leader once their appointed instead of giving them nine lives, like lochstar for example has the ability to run and climb faster then all other members, with his increased agility he has been able to save many cats during his leadership. other leaders in the past have gotten other abilities usually given for a specific reason that will help them protect another cat or lead them to something that will aid them in protecting the clan.

since the severing the lineage of holy cats their has been a disconnect with the ancestors most recently, moonpaw has also been struggling to reach the ancestors due to their silence from moons. shallowclan waits with baited breath.

Now, during a time many moons from the clan’s original founding, HollowClan strays further from traditional clan beliefs. What warrior code is necessary, when not another clan or individual cat can be found for miles? StarClan, similarly, has become more of a legend, a bedtime story for kits, a blessing of protection before a journey or a quiet thanks when a cat survives fatality.

This does not mean all cats in the clan feel this way. Leaders and medicine cats still often retain a strong connection to StarClan. They, among a few other select cats, are considered ‘blessed’ by their legendary ancestors, and this blessing is visible through what can only be described as “stars in their eyes”. “Blessed” cats are often seen as incredibly wise, or looked upon with an almost god-like respect.

The StarClan HollowClan believes in has a few distinct, albeit nameless, sects. Due to the fact that most cats know little about their ancestors, and some even doubt their existence despite what messages the medicine cats relay, regular warriors don’t know, or don’t care, about these sects.

There are the regular warriors are StarClan- cats who lived average lives, nothing necessarily remarkable. If they did achieve some honorable or impressive feat, they may have a few extra or shinier stars in their pelt, but otherwise they typically look the same.
Above them, are the truly remarkable cats. Cats who lived a life so extraordinary, the stars themselves decided that even in the afterlife, where cats are equal and boundaries melt away, they should be marked uniquely to set them apart. One can recognize these cats through the unnatural colors of their pelts- some only have a few odd patches in their fur, others are completely and uniquely colored.
These cats are typically the ones that, according to legend, give a leader their nine lives. They are the most trustworthy, the cats who send medicine cats the most important messages. These cats are often viewed above the others, but what divine force deems a cat so holy and worthy of such influence is unknown.

One of HollowClan’s medicine cats, Minteyes (who notably does not have StarClan’s “blessing”), is wary of her ancestors and this ‘ranking’ system of sorts. While her fellow healer, Frostbite, might disregard a message from a “regular” ancestor, no matter how urgent, Minteyes doesn’t see why a cat, even one deemed “average” in the afterlife, should be ignored when trying to help their living clanmates. She wants the entire clan to be on the same page, but with so few cats even actually believing in StarClan, she can’t imagine swaying their minds when she can’t sway the few who already do believe, namely her leader and fellow medicine cats.

Recently, she’s been receiving warnings of huge changes threatening her clan, changes that could upturn the ways they’ve been living for generations. It may be time to go back to the code, back to patrolling borders they’ve neglected due to a lack of neighbors, back to confiding in their ancestors. But because of the cat these warnings come from, her fears are not taken seriously.
