Jay had been living on this farm her entire life, and she was pretty happy about that. They took care of her here, the horses she lived with were plenty friendly. But she still yearned for something. She yearned to be able to see more of the world, and one day something happened.
She was suddenly smaller. A lot smaller. And she heard a voice in her head, "you have until tonight, little Jay- you're free to go until then." And then she was soaring. Small wings flapping as hard as they could, catching updrafts and twirling through the air. She was free! It may not be forever but it was enough, she could have her freedom for the night.
Jay flew over farms and towns and so many things she couldn't even name. She dived around huge tall buildings, flew over snapping jaws of a dog. Feathers ruffled in the wind and she cried out, small beak open in joy. This was amazing!
At the end of the night, she returned to her little farm, landing back in her pasture, and there she was- hooves and horns all in place. She was glad to be home at the end of the day, all that flying around had worn the poor girl out. So she settled in her bed of hay and dreamed of ruffling feathers.

but nonetheless, persephone was stubborn.

a life of being a horse, swift as sleet amongst snow. surely she'd be the best dancer in the whole wide world once she uttered her deepest wish to the mirror.
